Crushers GC go back-to-back as Niemann clinches fourth title of LIV Golf season
Torque GC Captain Joaquin Niemann continued his dominant run in the 2025 LIV Golf season with a sensational bogey-free final round of 8-under 63 to win LIV Golf Virginia at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club, Gainesville. It marked his fourth victory in eight events, bringing his total to 15-under for the 54-hole tournament - one shot ahead of Graeme McDowell and Dubai-based Anirban Lahiri. 'Pretty cool to be in this place, in this position right now,' said the 26-year-old Niemann, the current individual points leader. But Niemann wasn't the only one making headlines. Bryson DeChambeau's Crushers GC claimed their second straight team title, edging out 4Aces GC by two strokes. The win marked the eighth in team history, making the Crushers LIV Golf's most successful team to date. 'I didn't know we'd won eight times - that's pretty cool,' said DeChambeau, who fired a 65, joined by Lahiri, Paul Casey, and Charles Howell III, all carding 68s. 'It's a testament to these guys. The roster hasn't changed.' Dramatic Final Round Sunday's final round was packed with drama, including two rain delays, and a host of major champions including Phil Mickelson, Bubba Watson, Martin Kaymer, and McDowell, all chasing their first LIV Golf titles. Lahiri, the 36-hole leader, was also eyeing his first global victory in a decade. Adding to the excitement, Lee Westwood and Ben Campbell both shot 9-under 62s. Campbell even set a LIV Golf single-round record with seven consecutive birdies. In one thrilling minute of play, DeChambeau chipped in for birdie on the 16th - his second chip-in there this week - while Thomas Pieters drained a monster 62.5-foot birdie putt. Niemann, Watson, and Lahiri were also firing birdies, creating a six-way tie at 13-under with only a few holes to play. Emerging from the second weather delay red-hot, Niemann birdied holes 14 through 17, pulling away from the field in the shotgun start format. His Sunday excellence has been key - he's a combined 27-under in the final rounds of his four 2025 wins. This was also Niemann's first LIV Golf win on U.S. soil, following earlier triumphs in Adelaide, Singapore, and Mexico City. His 2024 victories came in Mayakoba and Jeddah. 'He's just so good,' said McDowell, who posted back-to-back 66s for his first LIV Golf podium. 'He's an absolute top-10 player in the world - you could argue top five. Phenomenal player.' Lahiri Narrowly Misses Out Dubai-based Anirban Lahiri finished tied second for the sixth time in LIV Golf events, falling just short despite a two-shot lead entering the final round. After a sluggish start - 1-over through four - he rebounded with three birdies in the next four holes to stay in contention. 'Didn't get the start I wanted, and lost some momentum in the middle,' said Lahiri. 'I tried my best, but it's disappointing to come up short. I could've played a lot better today.' Despite the result, Lahiri remained upbeat: 'What I'm really happy about is how I handled myself. I was calmer, more focused, and believed I was going to win right until the final putt. That's something I'll carry with me into future events.' Though they didn't manage a clean sweep of the individual and team trophies, DeChambeau's elite form with top-five finishes in each of his last six starts, including two majors combined with the consistency of his veteran teammates, positions Crushers GC well for the top playoff seed for the second year in a row. Graeme McDowell was pipped by a single shot at LIV Golf Virginia on Sunday after Joaquin Niemann fired a final round 63 to claim a one shot victory at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club. Niemann's LIV Golf League domination continued as the Chilean carded an eight-under final round to claim a fourth title of 2025. But as play resumed with six holes remaining the chasing pack started to close the gap on McDowell. Within a couple of holes there was a six-way tie for the lead before Niemann edged in front to secure victory and help Crushers GC secure yet another team title. Advertisement McDowell's wait for a tournament win win continues as he had to settle for joint second alongside Anirban Lahiri on -14. It's five years since the Northern Irishman finish top of the pile in an individual competition following his victory at the Saudi International in 2020. The two-shot win over Dustin Johnson was his 11th win on the European circuit and ended a six-year wait for a win. Despite his disappointment in Virginia McDowell walked away with a healthy pay cheque from the tournament. Winner Niemann took home $4 million of the $20 million purse, but McDowell earned an impressive $1,875,000 along with Lahiri in joint second in his best finish of the year to date.

Joaquin Niemann has birdied the 14th, 15th, 16th and 17th holes to cap off a bogey-free, eight-under-par 63 for his final round and hang on to win LIV Golf Virginia in Gainesville. The 26-year-old Chilean went 15-under 198 for the week at Robert Trent Jones Golf Club and beat Northern Ireland's Graeme McDowell (66) and Anirban Lahiri of India (68) by a single stroke. Lahiri had a birdie attempt at his final hole on Sunday to force a playoff with Niemann but could not convert. Niemann's sixth LIV win - all coming in a 17-month span - broke a tie with Brooks Koepka for the most victories in the Saudi-backed league's brief history. He had to endure a rain delay and fend off a crowded field of players to finish the job. "I felt like there was a lot going on during the rain delay," Niemann said. "Tried to keep my mind on the right thoughts, and having Bryson (DeChambeau) coming off pretty clutch at the end, Phil (Mickelson) as well, Anirban... "It could have been for anybody, and I felt like I was all day just behind, especially since the beginning of the week, and I feel like the only word that I was telling myself from last night was just have faith. There's nothing else I can do, have a good attitude, and just wait." The win propels him into next week's US Open, where he is in the field on an exemption reserved for one of the top players in the league. "I feel like I'm still pretty far away of winning (a major)," Niemann added. "I'm just happy to be playing at the US Open. It's going to be a great course, pretty tough conditions. He reached 15 under par when he stuck his second shot at No.17 to about a foot from the pin to set up a tap-in birdie. DeChambeau and Mickelson each shot six-under 65s to get into a tie for fourth at 13 under with Belgium's Thomas Pieters (63) and Bubba Watson (67). Marc Leishman (66) was the leading Australian at nine under and in joint 10th, with Cameron Smith (68) five under, Lucas Herbert (68) three over and Matt Jones (70) seven over. In the team standings, the DeChambeau-captained Crushers GC went 15 under for the day to finish 36 under par and secure the team title by two strokes over 4Aces GC. It is Crushers' second straight team victory following the last event in South Korea.
