Man gets 50-yr RI for sexual assault
T'puram: A fast-track special court on Tuesday sentenced a youth to 50 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after trespassing into her house. In default of the payment, the accused, a 25-year-old Thiruvallam native, must undergo an additional jail term of 15 more months, as pronounced by judge Anju Meera Birla. The court also directed that the fine amount be paid to the victim. The alleged sexual assaults took place from Sept 6, 2021. After befriending the girl on social media, the accused somehow found out her house. Later, he trespassed into the house and sexually assaulted the girl for eight days. The accused stayed in the victim's room without anyone being aware of it. He promised to marry her and threatened that she would be killed if she disclosed the incident to anyone. During weekends, the girl used to visit her grandmother and the accused would reach there as well at night. The girl's father noticed the accused and alerted police. The accused was arrested and got bail. While on bail, he kidnapped the girl and sexually assaulted her at a lodge in Varkala, which resulted in another case. On behalf of the prosecution, special public prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan appeared before the court.

Youth gets 50-year jail term for sexually abusing minor in Thiruvananthapuram
THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The fast track special court in Thiruvananthapuram has sentenced Sujith, 25, from Thiruvallam to 50 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 35,000 for sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl after entering her house and staying there for several days. The judgment was delivered by Judge Anju Meera Birla. The court ordered that the fine amount be given to the survivor. If the convict fails to pay the fine, he will have to serve an additional one-and-a-half-years in prison. The incident happened on September 6, 2021. The accused entered the girl's room and sexually assaulted her, threatening her to remain silent. He continued to stay inside the house for eight days and repeatedly raped her. The girl did not inform anyone initially as the accused had promised to marry her. Later that month, on the 21st, the accused again entered the girl's house in Nemom. He was spotted by the father and handed over to the police. While out on bail in the case, the accused reportedly abducted the girl, took her to a lodge in Varkala and sexually abused her. A separate trial for this incident has been completed.

Man gets 15-year jail for assaulting stepdaughter
Thiruvananthapuram: A fast track special court on Wednesday sentenced a man to 15 years of rigorous imprisonment and fined him Rs 45,000 for sexually assaulting his 10-year-old stepdaughter. In default of the payment, the accused (whose name is withheld to protect the identity of the survivor) must undergo an additional jail term of 1.5 years, Judge Anju Meera Birla pronounced in the verdict. The legal services authority was directed to ensure adequate compensation to the child in addition to handing over the fine amount. The crime happened in March 2020. He even threatened the girl not to disclose it to anyone. The accused was the third husband of the survivor's mother. He showed the child pornographic videos on his mobile and sexually assaulted her when other family members were away. The girl's grandmother, who noticed changes in the child's behaviour, spoke to her, and she disclosed the incidents to the grandmother. Police were alerted and they arrested the accused. On behalf of the prosecution special public prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan appeared before the court. The prosecution deposed as many as 16 witnesses and presented 26 documents during the trial. The case was investigated by Nedumangad DSP Suneesh Babu and sub-inspector Shiju S S.

Dance teacher gets 52 years jail in Pocso case
Thiruvananthapuram: A fast-track special Pocso court judge Anju Meera Birla on Saturday sentenced a 46-year-old dance teacher to 52 years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 3.25 lakh for sexually assaulting a seven-year-old boy at a dance school in the state capital. The accused, Sunil Kumar of Thulasimukku near Kadakkal in Kollam, must undergo an additional jail term of 3.5 years in default of the payment. The judge also directed the legal service authority to ensure that the fine amount is handed over to the victim. The court observed that the accused, being a teacher, did not deserve any mercy as he exploited the trust of the survivor and his parents. The accused also faces trial in another case for sexually attacking a 12-year-old boy at his house. The crime happened between 2017 and 2019. Following that the boy showed reluctance to attend classes, however his parents thought he was being lazy. The boy disclosed the assault to the parents when they decided to get admission for his younger brother at the same dance school. A case was soon registered and the boy was provided counselling. On behalf of the prosecution, special public prosecutor R S Vijay Mohan appeared before the court. As many as 17 witnesses were deposed and 17 documents were presented during the trial. The case was investigated by Pangode station house officers Suneesh and N Suresh.
