Anjum Fakih Explores Rural India In Chooriyan Chali Gaon, Calls It A ‘Return To Roots'

Last Updated: Anjum Fakih opened up about her journey in Chooriyan Chali Gaon and how the show brings her closer to her rural roots in Maharashtra. Actress Anjum Fakih is ready to join the new reality show Chooriyan Chali Gaon, which puts city dwellers in the middle of rural India. The show's twist struck a chord with Anjum the moment she heard about it, and it made her feel extremely rooted. The actress, who has appeared in hit Hindi serials, views this as something bigger than a television show. She feels it connects the dots between her present life in Mumbai and her humble beginnings in a small village in Maharashtra. Anjum Fakih's Story Begins In Chiplun According to The Times of India, Anjum said, 'I was born in Chiplun, Ratnagiri. We belong to the coastal belt of Maharashtra—simple, unassuming folks who eat fish, dal and rice." Though born in rural India, her life diverged from that track when her family moved to Mumbai at the age of two. She said, 'My childhood and schooling took place completely in the city. We would go to our village only for summer holidays, and even then, we weren't permitted to do any work—it was purely a holiday." This dichotomy between her origins and background then became an impetus for participating in the show. The experience provided her with something she hadn't previously done—live in a rural village to which she didn't belong. A Cultural Immersion That Is New 'What interested Anjum most about the show was being able to immerse herself in a rural environment she wasn't used to," said the producers. She continued, 'We just visited our village. I have not visited anyone else's village. India has numerous villages, and through this programme, I get to live, eat and develop relationships with people in one of those villages." Her statement shows how eagerly she wants to go beyond her comfort zone and experience a way of life that's quite different from what she has been used to in the city. In a world that is always proceeding towards modernity and Westernisation, Chooriyan Chali Gaon was a breath of fresh air for Anjum. She stated, 'Internationally, we've had lots of reality shows, but none that transport people from urban areas to rural areas. It was new, it was fresh, it was earthy. At a point when everybody's racing to westernise, here we're returning to our roots. That was the attraction." Anjum's experience on the show is not just fodder for the screen — it's an emotional journey back to simplicity. It's about testing a slower pace of life that's rooted deeply within Indian culture. view comments First Published: August 06, 2025, 18:15 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Anjum Fakih: When everyone's chasing westernisation, here we are going back to our roots

Anjum Fakih will appear in 'Chooriyan Chali Gaon'. The show explores rural India. Anjum connects with her roots through the show. Actor Anjum Fakih is all set to be seen in the upcoming reality show Chooriyan Chali Gaon, which explores rural life in India through the eyes of participants from urban backgrounds. For her, the show resonates deeply with her own story. 'I was born in Chiplun, Ratnagiri. We are from the coastal side of Maharashtra—simple, humble people who eat fish, lentils, and rice,' she shares. However, her family shifted to Mumbai when she was just two. 'My upbringing and education happened entirely in the city. We used to visit our village only during summer vacations, and even then, we weren't allowed to do any work—it was strictly a break.' What intrigued Anjum most about the show was the opportunity to immerse herself in a rural setting unfamiliar to her. 'We only go to our village. I haven't been to anyone else's village. India has so many villages, and through this show, I get to live, eat, and build relationships with people in one of them.' She adds, 'Internationally, we've seen many reality shows, but none that take people from cities into the countryside. It felt new, fresh, and rooted. At a time when everyone's chasing westernisation, here we are going back to our roots. That's what drew me in.'

Kundali Bhagya Fame Anjum Fakih Breaks Silence on Split with Ex-BF Rohit Jadhav: ‘We Should Embrace Breakups'

TV star Anjum Fakih, known for Kundali Bhagya, discussed her breakup with Rohit Jadhav, stressing the importance of embracing breakups. TV star Anjum Fakih rose to prominence with her role in the daily soap Kundali Bhagya. The actress made headlines after news of her breakup with Rohit Jadhav, who isn't from the showbiz industry, began circulating. While she chose to stay tight-lipped at the time, she has now finally broken her silence and reacted to reports of their split. In a conversation with Telly Masala, Anjum Fakih was asked about her ex-partner Rohit Jadhav. She shared that she believes people should embrace breakups just as they embrace love, saying, 'Jab hume pyaar hota hai, hum bohot hi excitement se aur bohot hi khule dil se usko apnate hai. Mujhe aisa lagta hai ki we should embrace breakups as well." (When we are in love, we accept it with excitement and an open heart. I feel we should embrace breakups as well.) She further added, 'Because relationships jaha par hai, waha par anban hogi, waha pe breakups honge. Jaise hum falling in love ko khule dil se swagat karte hai, waise hi hume breakups ko bhi gale lagana chahiye aur unse mayus nahi hona chahiye." (Because where there are relationships, there will be arguments and breakups. Just like we welcome love with open arms, we should also accept breakups and not be disheartened by them.) 'Woh toh tabhi ho gaya tha" (It happened in the past), Anjum disclosed when asked about when the breakup took place. Anjum has also been subjected to social media trolling over time, though it has never bothered her much. The last time she spoke to us at News18, when she was gearing up for Rohit Shetty's show Khatron Ke Khiladi Season 13, the actress talked about facing online negativity and how she deals with it. 'I have been trolled often. I have been trolled because of my clothes, because of pictures with Shraddha, for being in a relationship. I have been trolled for several things but, like I said, I don't stress about it. I don't read about it either because I feel the more negativity you absorb, the more your aura gets affected. This is why I don't go to the comments section. If I happen to see a good comment, I like it and reply. That apart, trolls do not bother me," the actress had shared with us. The Kundali Bhagya actor was questioned for not announcing her breakup on social media as she had announced her relationship. Replying to this, Anjum shared, "Mera problem yeh hai ki danke ki chot pe mai karti hu chize. Toh jab breakup hota hai muje aisa lagta hai iske baare mai kya hi bolu logo ko (My problem is that I do everything publicly. But when the breakup happened, I thought what should I tell people about it)." However, Anjum confirmed that she still believes in love and mentions how everyone should fall in love. She continued, "Bas mai yeh kehna chahungi ki koi agar rishta tut gaya hai, jaise meri 10-15 saal purani dostiya tut gayi hai. Toh muje voh bhi bura lagta hai ki kyu gaye log mere zindagi se lekin change is only the constant (I just want to say that if a relationship has broken, like some of my 10-15 year old friendships have ended, it does make me feel bad - why did those people leave my life? But change is constant)." Speaking about Anjum's new work, the actress will soon be seen in an upcoming show titled Chhoriyan Chali Gaon.
