A Guide To The "Buffy The Vampire Slayer " Reboot

It's been over 20 years since we said goodbye to Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but the iconic show's legacy still lives on today. The supernatural YA drama series, which aired from 1997 to 2003, stars Sarah Michelle Gellar as Buffy Summers, a teenage girl who's chosen by fate to battle vampires, demons, and other supernatural forces. With a little help from her friends, she juggles her life as a Sunnydale High School student along with her sacred destiny as the "Slayer." Now, there's a new generation of slayers on the way. A Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is officially in the works at Hulu. Michelle Trachtenberg will always hold a special place in Buffy fans' hearts. While details about the series are still largely being kept under wraps, there's already plenty to get excited about. Here's everything we know about the Buffy reboot so far: Sarah Michelle Gellar will reprise her role as Buffy Summers and serve as an executive producer. Here's a behind-the-scenes update she shared. It looks like a table read for the pilot! 👀 "I have always listened to the fans and heard your desire to revisit Buffy and her world, but it was not something I could do unless I was sure we would get it right," Gellar wrote in an Instagram post in February. "This has been a long process, and it's not over yet. I promise you, we will only make this show if we know we can do it right. And I will tell you that we are on the path there.' "Thank you to all the fans who never stopped asking for this," Gellar added. "This will be for you." Ryan Kiera Armstrong has been cast as the lead Slayer. Per TVLine, her character Nova (which may be a placeholder name) is described as a "cerebral" 16-year-old who is "very smart and a bit of a loner." Gellar's role is expected to be recurring, with 15-year-old Armstrong serving as the new protagonist. Armstrong has previously had roles on Anne with an E, American Horror Story: Red Tide, and the Disney+ series Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. In May, Armstrong took to Instagram to celebrate her big news, writing, "i'm so beyond thankful and excited to share that i am going to be apart of the BTVS universe!!! i am so excited for this journey with you @sarahmgellar i am in awe of you. ... i'm still in so much shock and disbelief." "From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side," Gellar wrote in an Instagram post of her own. "To have that kind of emotional intelligence , and talent, at such a young age is truly a gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room." In July, five new cast additions were announced: Faly Rakotohavana as Hugo, Ava Jean as Larkin, Sarah Bock as Gracie, Daniel di Tomasso as Abe, and Jack Cutmore-Scott as Mr. Burke. Viewers might recognized Bock from Severance and Cutmore-Scott from Frasier and Oppenheimer (2023)! Oscar-winning filmmaker Chloé Zhao, who's known for her work on Nomadland (2020) and the MCU's Eternals (2021), will serve as the director and co-EP. Additional executive producers attached to the pilot include Nora and Lilla Zuckerman, OG Buffy EPs Gail Berman and Fran and Kaz Kuzui, along with Dolly Parton (whose production company Sandollar was a producer on the original series). Gellar, who was previously against doing a Buffy revival, credits Zhao personally for changing her mind. "Every pitch I heard was just like, 'Let's just do Buffy again,'" she said in an interview with Elite Daily. "Why? But the passion that [Zhao] came to me with, what she wanted to do with the show and the character, and why Buffy is needed now — it was the first time where I thought, 'OK, there's a reason.'" "Three years ago, I got a call from my dear friend and mentor, Gail Berman," Gellar wrote in an Instagram post. "She told me that she wanted me to sit down with Chloé Zhao to hear her take on a potential Buffy revival. I was blown away that Chloé even knew who I was, but, as I've always done, I told Gail that I just didn't see a way for the show to exist again. We'd always been aligned on that, but this time I heard something different in her voice. I eventually agreed to go (mainly just to meet Chloé) and our twenty minute coffee quickly turned into a four hour adventure. We laughed, we cried, but mostly we both talked about how much this show means to us." 4. Buffy creator Joss Whedon will not be involved with the reboot. Christina Carpenter wants to reprise her role as Cordelia Chase after her character's "unjust" ending on the spin-off Angel... "I am so excited for fans, and I know it will be fantastic because of who's involved," Carpenter said of the reboot in an interview with IGN. "To see this actually happen for the fans makes me thrilled. I am so hopeful to be included, for Cordelia to be a part of this new iteration." ...which may work out, because Gellar wants to bring characters back from the dead! "We will try to find a balance between new and old characters," she said in an interview with Vanity Fair. "My dream is to bring back everyone who has died, but space will have to be made for new stories as well." Expect the tone to be different. "It will be lighter than the last few seasons of the original," Gellar told Vanity Fair. "We're trying to figure out how to modernize the themes of the series, especially what it means to feel like an outsider in a world dominated by social media," Gellar added. "What we want to explore are the space-time boundaries that affect society today." The reboot will honor the late Michelle Trachtenberg, who played Buffy's sister Dawn. "We'll be able to do something," Gellar said in an interview with Parade. "We'll do what's appropriate." It hasn't yet been confirmed which original cast members will return. But, based on this cryptic Instagram post, fans think there's a pretty good possibility Alyson Hannigan will reprise her role as Willow Rosenberg. IYKYK. 💔 Finally, Gellar revealed that the children of some OG cast members auditioned for the reboot. 👀 "I know somebody who was on the show whose child auditioned on the show,' she teased to US Weekly. "I know a few people from the show whose children came in." All seven seasons of Buffy the Vampire Slayer are available to stream on Hulu.

You'd Never Know That This Couple's "Bridgerton" Meets "The Secret Garden" Wedding in Texas Took Place in the Winter

Krista Noland and Jennifer O'Neil met in September if 2021 at a professional development training for first-year teachers. Even though they taught at different schools, their connection gradually grew over the course of their monthly sessions. Though they considered each other "work friends" for most of the year, both women secretly hoped that their bond would shift from platonic to romantic. In an effort to speed up their relationship trajectory, Krista changed her Bumble app settings to focus only on available women in her home city, where she knew Jen also lived. As she hoped would happen, Krista found Jen's profile and finally had her excuse to ask her crush out on a date. 'We officially began our relationship on July 1, 2022, over chocolate chip pancakes in Jen's apartment,' Krista says. 'The rest is history!' Just five months later, they were engaged. The couple tied the knot on February 24, 2024, at the historic Woodbine Mansion in Round Rock, Texas, which they were drawn to due to the venue's architecture and neoclassical charm. Krista and Jennifer invited 150 guests to watch them exchange vows in an outdoor ceremony and celebrate with a garden party dinner reception. 'We wanted our wedding to reflect our love: full of laughter, love, and beauty,' Krista says. 'We took inspiration from three main things for our décor: The Secret Garden, Bridgerton, and most importantly, the party welcoming Spring from an episode of Anne with an E.' That episode, based on Anne of Green Gables, celebrates queer love, the brides say, which made it even more meaningful for them. With help from Karlie Sluder of Agave Events, their month-of-coordinator, the brides pulled off a pastel-toned wedding ceremony and reception packed with flowers, vintage charm, and lots of love. Read on to see how their vision came to life in the photos by Natalie Nicole Photo. Related: 22 "Bridgerton"-Inspired Wedding Dresses Jen envisioned herself walking down the aisle in a vintage-inspired flowy, romantic wedding gown with a long train. "I researched for what felt like hundreds of hours on where to find size inclusive wedding dress boutiques that might carry more variety for me to find what fit that vision, but most that were size inclusive and within my budget were out of state,' she says. Jen shifted her focus to online options, and she quickly came across Selkie's bridal collection. Having a few Selkie dresses in her closet already, Jen ordered the ivory 'Queen of Angels' dress with confidence. The organza A-line gown featured a full skirt, petticoat, long train, and sheer puff sleeves that cuffed at the wrists. Jen accessorized with blue costume earrings that were a gift from her Oma and a simple chain necklace by James Avery with a charm in the ASL sign for 'I love you.' 'My mom had owned the charm since the 80s, and then gifted it to me when I was leaving for my freshman year of college,' the bride says. 'For as long as I can remember, we have signed 'I love you' in this way when she or I was driving away in the car as a final reminder to each other before we were apart.' She wore her favorite perfume, Glossier You, and a translucent light blue manicure to match her eye color. Jen and Krista each held bouquets of roses, ranunculus, sweet peas, stock, and greenery, but the arrangements were made to look like sisters, not twins. 'Our bridal bouquets featured lush premium florals in the color palette with big buds and a small pop of greenery, creating a whimsical look," the bride notes. Each arrangement was finished with an ivory ribbon. Krista also ordered her wedding dress online because the only store that carried the gown she had been eyeing from Canadian company Truvelle in the United States was in New York. She sent her measurements to the brand and took a gamble on purchasing the ivory silk and organza A-line wedding dress with flutter sleeves and tiered skirt without ever trying it on. 'The hardest part of the shopping experience was not picking it out, but waiting on the gown to come in and crossing my fingers that the measurements we took were accurate,' she says. Luckily, it was exactly what she wanted. She accessorized with two James Avery necklaces—one featuring the big dipper constellation that Jen gave her early on in their relationship and another chain of stars. 'They were special to me because I've always said Jen is the sun and she has always said that I am the stars, so both necklaces represented that aspect of our relationship,' Krista says. She also wore freshwater pearl earrings and light blue white Nike dunk sneakers as her something blue. She wanted to wear her hair up to avoid getting uncomfortable in the Texas heat. 'As far as the actual style goes, I wanted something romantic and ethereal, like it could have come out of Pride & Prejudice or Bridgerton,' she says. She chose Eilish Eau de Parfum by Billie Eilish as her wedding-day fragrance. Krista and Jen's ceremony took place in the mansion's garden, where guests were welcomed by a custom arched sign that informed attendees about the unplugged nature of the ceremony—it was important to the brides that guests were present and focused during their vow exchange. A flower arrangement in the couple's spring-inspired color palette was placed at the foot of the sign. Guests were seated on the lawn facing a pastel rainbow-inspired floral arch. 'We wanted a ton of florals scaling the columns that centered our altar as well as florals all the way down the length of the aisle,' Krista says. The aisle was also lined with pastel blooms. The couple's wedding party walked down the aisle to a recorded string quartet version of 'Here Comes the Sun' by Stringspace. Jen was accompanied by both of her parents as she made her way down the aisle to 'Invisible String (Stripped Wedding Cover)' by Ana Done. Krista walked down the aisle with both of her parents to the second half of the song. The couple exchanged personal, heartfelt vows—something that felt like a natural choice for both brides. 'We are both big writers and find that we can express ourselves better in written word than off the top of our heads, so we decided that reading our written personal vows aloud would be the most fitting for us as a couple,' Krista says. At the end of the ceremony, the newlyweds recessed back up the aisle in joy to 'This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" by Natalie Cole. Guests moved to an outdoor tent for the couple's reception, where a blue and white checkered dance floor and hanging floral installation above it served as space's the focal point. Round tables were topped with light blue linens while long wooden tables had cream colored runners. Krista and Jen sat at a sweetheart table adorned with flowers that cascaded to the ground, and each guest table was finished with a variety of different pastel centerpieces comprised of roses, ranunculus, anemones, tulips, sweet peas, carnations, snapdragons, and more. 'We knew we wanted our wedding to feel as beautiful and fun as our love, so we prioritized tons of florals and other big and small details that felt like us, such as a fun live band, a big dance floor, and images decorating our cocktail hour and reception that honored the love stories that came before ours,' Krista says. The brides chose an eclectic mix of different place settings with antique-style floral plates in different shapes and colors paired. Green napkins, pink embossed goblets, and silver flatware were used throughout the space for consistency. At the start of the reception, Jen's 90-year-old grandmother, Oma, shared an emotional speech that had every guest tearing up. Then, the couple's seven-piece band kicked off the festivities with 'Do You Believe in Magic' by The Lovin' Spoonful for Krista and Jen's first dance. Krista and Jen cut into a three-tiered ivory wedding cake with blue, pink, and green vintage-inspired Lambeth piping. They chose lemon cake with raspberry filling for the top tier and sheet cake, while the middle and bottom layers were made from white cake with buttercream filling. The brides also used the cake cutting as an opportunity to change into their second outfits of the day. Jen traded her gown for a pink Jessa Kae dress with embellished straps and a tulle skirt while Krista wore a floral embroidered number from Ava Gowns. At the end of the night, the couple's guests gathered outside the mansion to wave ribbons in the air as Krista and Jen's sendoff. They went on a luxury cruise to Mexico, Jamaica, Grand Cayman, and the Bahamas for their honeymoon. 'Your day should feel like a reflection of your love and the life you will live together,' Krista tells future couples. 'Have fun with it, don't let the details bog you down, and focus on celebrating your love throughout the whole process of planning.'Photographer Natalie Nicole Photo Venue Woodbine Mansion Month-of-Coordinator Agave Events Brides' Hair and Makeup Luxe by Lexi Flowers Remi + Gold Invitations and Paper Products Minted Music Royal Dukes Band Cake Sweet Treets Bakery Rentals Quest Events Dance Floor Imperial Floor Rentals Videographer Reagan Schwab MediaUp Next: Everything You Need to Know About Booking a Honeymoon Cruise Read the original article on Brides

7 Times A Female Character Taught Me How To Be Strong

Leslie Knope – Parks and Recreation: Season 4, Episode 20 ("The Debate") Leslie Knope, my favorite TV feminist — a "beautiful, talented, brilliant, powerful musk-ox," in her own right, has always been a role model to many, including me. Her strength is special because it's rooted in love and persistence. She doesn't need to be loud or intimidating to be heard. Throughout Parks and Rec, Leslie shows that strength can come from caring deeply, working hard, and never backing down from your values. In "The Debate,' she wins not by being flashy, making empty promises, or even threatening like her opponents, but by being honest and passionate. Towards the end of the debate, she says, 'If I seem too passionate, it's because I care. If I come on strong, it's because I feel strongly. And if I push too hard, it's because things aren't moving fast enough.' Leslie doesn't fight for power — she fights with her heart, and that's what makes her so strong. Santana Lopez – Glee: Season 3, Episode 7 ("I Kissed a Girl") Santana Lopez was, from the start, introduced as a strong, outspoken, and confident character, with talent to match. She was constantly, courageously making space for herself in rooms as a Hispanic queer character — in spaces where representation was deeply I think the bravest — and strongest — she ever was, was when she came out to her abuela. Although she was met with anger and rejection in that moment, it took so much courage to be that honest and vulnerable. In that powerful scene, she tells her abuela:'I walk around so mad at the world, but I'm really just fighting with myself. I don't want to fight anymore. I'm just too tired. I have to just be me…' Being seen — and truly vulnerable — takes more strength than most people think. Anne Shirley – Anne with an E: Season 3, Episode 2 ("There is something at work in my soul, which I do not understand") Anne Shirley from Anne of Green Gables and the series Anne with an E is a sensitive, imaginative, and bold character. She constantly stands up for herself and those around her, always seeking adventure and meaning. One scene that stayed with me is when Anne and her friend Cole visit the orphanage to learn about her parents. Anne, unfortunately, discovers nothing about them and finds that the stories she had written were all fantasy, and realizes she's been using imagination to escape a painful reality. She feels angry and ashamed for deluding herself and holding onto so much hope. But Cole reminds her: 'It saved you... Your reality is effervescent. Beautiful... It made you who you are... And selfishly, I'm thankful for it all. Because you were able to understand and accept me. That saved my life.' Anne's strength was in her ability to hope, even when life gave her little reason to — and that hope inspired others, too. Elle Woods – Legally Blonde Elle Woods has been celebrated for years — and I'm sure she'll continue to be. She's constantly underestimated because of how she looks and the things she loves, which is a story so many women understand. Her strength comes from continuing to show up, even when the world tries to dismiss her. There are many moments of strength in Legally Blonde, but one that always stands out to me the most is when she decides to quit Harvard. After a professor makes an inappropriate advance, Elle feels like she'll never be taken seriously, no matter how hard she tries. While saying goodbye to a friend and admitting her dreams may have been a delusion, a respected female professor overhears and says, 'If you're going to let one stupid prick ruin your life… then you're not the girl I thought you were.' That moment reignites Elle's passion. She returns to school in full pink and wins the case by being exactly who she me, that was her real moment of strength: realizing she didn't need to change to be taken seriously. She just had to believe in herself again — and trust that she was right about who she is all along. Samantha Jones – Sex and The City: Season 5, Episode 3 ("Luck Be an Old Lady") Samantha Jones, the unapologetic, sexually free, and wildly successful queen of Sex and the City, has countless scenes where her strength and ambition shine. But one of my favorite moments comes from the episode "Luck Be an Old Lady." Samantha and her boyfriend invite the girls to Atlantic City to celebrate Charlotte's 36th birthday. But during the trip, Samantha rushes back to their shared suite after her suspicions are triggered, trying to catch her boyfriend in the act, suspecting he's cheating again. That trust, already on thin ice, finally breaks. Even if he wasn't cheating that day, she knows deep down that he will eventually — and more importantly, she realizes she doesn't deserve that kind of relationship. It's beneath her. As she leaves him for the last time, she tells him, 'I love you too, Richard, but I love me more.' Later, she repeats this same quote when breaking up with another boyfriend, after realizing she'd been neglecting herself for his sake. Samantha knows her worth and unapologetically puts herself first in a world that tells women not to. Choosing yourself — especially when it isn't easy — takes real strength. Rose Hsu Jordan – The Joy Luck Club (Movie) The Joy Luck Club is one of my favorite books and movies. Any first-generation daughter can relate to the themes in this beautiful story: inherited trauma, finding your voice, and the complex relationships between Chinese-born mothers and their American-born daughters. One of my favorite stories is Rose's. For much of her marriage, she believes she needs to be submissive and agreeable to keep her husband happy. Over time, she loses her sense of self completely. When the marriage falls apart, it's clear how much this silence costs her. Her mother sees it too, and shares a heartbreaking story from her childhood in China — about Rose's grandmother, who became one of many wives to a cruel man. To break the cycle, she took her own life, hoping her daughter would gain the strength she didn't have. That strength, her mother says, was meant to be passed down. Even if it seems like it skipped a generation, it's not too late. Later, Rose sits outside in the rain, waiting for her soon-to-be ex-husband. When he arrives, she finally tells him, 'You're not taking my house. You're not taking my daughter. You're not taking any part of me, because you don't know who I am. I died sixty years ago… For my daughter's get out of my house.' Rose finds her strength and worth in her mother's past — and in the women who came before her. She realizes the oppressor was never her husband — it was her belief that her worth was less than. Celie – The Color Purple (Broadway Musical) The Color Purple is another of my favorite books — and also one of my favorite movies and musicals. This powerful story about surviving trauma, racism, and misogyny — and reclaiming your voice — is filled with some of the strongest female characters I've ever known. Celie, the sensitive and quiet main character, has been silenced most of her life. She's endured more pain than anyone should — and yet, she survives. Some of my favorite moments come from the musical, where Celie slowly finds her voice in beautiful, unexpected ways: writing letters to her sister, building community, sewing with pride, and finally singing the masterpiece that is the song 'I'm Here.' The lyrics that always stay with me are: 'I don't need you to love me / I don't need you to love / I've got my sister…' 'But most of all, I'm thankful for loving who I really am / I'm beautiful / Yes, I'm beautiful / And I'm here.' In that moment, Celie realizes she is deserving of love and joy, and she doesn't need anyone else to believe it first. After years of being told otherwise, she finally sees herself as enough, as beautiful. She is her full self. She is here. A stunning display of strength and resilience. I still hear that song in my head all the time.

"Buffy the Vampire Slayer" Reboot Pilot Casts Ryan Kiera Armstrong in Titular Role

Yara Sameh "In every generation, there is a chosen one', — so says the opening narration in early episodes of the classic cult series Buffy the Vampire Slayer. The 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' reboot pilot at Hulu has found its new slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong. Armstrong has been cast in a lead role in the pilot opposite returning star Sarah Michelle Gellar. The pilot was originally announced at Hulu back in February. While the exact plot details are under wraps, sources previously said the pilot will focus on a new slayer with Gellar appearing in a recurring role as Buffy. 'From the moment I saw Ryan's audition, I knew there was only one girl that I wanted by my side,' Gellar said in a statement. 'To have that kind of emotional intelligence, and talent at such a young age is truly gift. The bonus is that her smile lights up even the darkest room.' Gellar also shared a video on Instagram in which she tells Armstrong she got the lead role. Nora Zuckerman and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write, showrun, and executive produce. Chloé Zhao is attached to direct and executive produce under her Book of Shadows production banner. Gellar executive produces, along with Gail Berman. 'We are so overjoyed to have found this generation's slayer in Ryan Kiera Armstrong, she absolutely blew us away — there is no question in our mind that she is the chosen one,' the Zuckermans said. Armstrong most recently appeared in the Disney+ 'Star Wars' series 'Skeleton Crew.' Her other TV credits include 'Anne with an E' at Netflix, 'American Horror Story,' and the upcoming FX series 'The Lowdown.' In film, she led the 'Firestarter' reboot opposite Zac Efron and has also starred in big budget films like 'The Tomorrow War' and Marvel's 'Black Widow.' Armstrong first broke out in the feature adaptation of 'The Art of Racing in the Rain.' 'Buffy the Vampire Slayer' originated as a film starring Kristy Swanson in the title role. Whedon wrote the film with Fran Kuzui directing. It was released in 1992. Five years later, the series version starring Gellar debuted on The WB. It would air on The WB for its first five seasons before airing its final two seasons on UPN.
