PETALING JAYA: The pathway to LPGA Tour has become shorter for rising Malaysian golf talent Mirabel Ting after she made history as the first Asian winner of the prestigious Annika Award. The award is given out to the US top collegiate women golfer for 2024-2025 season and Mirabel certainly did justice by doing exceptionally well.

KUALA LUMPUR: Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh congratulated Malaysia's top junior golfer Mirabel Ting who was awarded the 2025 ANNIKA Award, which honours the most outstanding female collegiate golfer in the United States. Hannah said the award as a special one as the winner is voted by players, coaches and the golf media, a testament to the recognition of Mirabel's talent from the golfing fraternity. 'Mirabel, who hails from Miri, is also ranked second on the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR), a firm indication that she is destined for big things in her career. Well done Mirabel, keep doing Malaysia proud!,' she said on her official Facebook post today. Earlier, Mirabel became the first Asian to receive the prestigious Annika Award, a day after finishing runner-up at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in California. Named after 72-time LPGA Tour winner Annika Sorenstam, the award was created in partnership with the Haskins Commission to acknowledge the top female collegiate golfer at the end of each season, akin to the Haskins Award presented by Stifel which recognizes the top male Division I collegiate golfer. The previous winners of the ANNIKA Award presented by Stifel are Ingrid Lindblad (Sweden – 2024), Rose Zhang (USA – 2022, 2023), Rachel Heck (USA – 2021), Natalie Srinivasan (USA – 2020), Maria Fassi (Mexico – 2018, 2019), Leona Maguire (Ireland -2015, 2017), Bronte Law (England – 2016) and Alison Lee (USA – 2014).

Golfer Mirabel becomes first Asian to win prestigious Annika Award
KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia's top junior golfer Mirabel Ting continues to make her mark on the global stage. Just a day after finishing runner-up at the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in California, the 19-year-old has added another feather to her cap — becoming the first Asian to receive the prestigious Annika Award. The honour, named after Swedish LPGA legend Annika Sorenstam, is presented annually to the top female golfer in the NCAA Division I circuit. The winner is determined through votes cast by fellow players, coaches, and members of the golf media. Mirabel, who currently tops the US collegiate golf rankings, is also ranked No. 2 in the World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR). Mirabel, who's a third year student at Florida State University, enjoyed a standout collegiate season with five individual victories in the 2024/25 season. This includes 2024 Folds of Honor Collegiate, 2024 Schooner Fall Classic, 2025 Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club, 2025 Briars Creek Invitational and the 2025 Florida State Match Up. She was named the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Golfer of the Year after leading the Florida State women's team to their first ACC Championship last month. Mirabel is also a finalist for the Women's Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) Player of the Year award.

Mirabel Ting. - LPGA Tour PETALING JAYA: Malaysian amateur golfer Mirabel Ting gained another feather in her cap when she won the Annika Award, being the United States' top collegiate women golfer for the 2024-2025 season. Mirabel is the first Asian winner of the award, which is named after 72-time LPGA Tour winner Annika Sorenstam (Sweden). The award has been presented annually since 2014 to the top female National Colleagiate Athletics Association (NCAA) Division I golfer as voted upon by players, coaches and members of the golf media. Mirabel received the award in a ceremony before the team match-play stage of the NCAA Division I Women's Golf Championship in California on Tuesday. Mirabel closed out 2025 season with a runner-up individual finish at the NCAA Division 1 championship. It was truly a standout collegiate season for the 19-year-old from Miri with five individual victories - the 2024 Folds of Honor Collegiate, 2024 Schooner Fall Classic, 2025 Collegiate Invitational at the Guadalajara Country Club, 2025 Briars Creek Invitational and the 2025 Florida State Match Up.
