City of Erie announces Lights Over Lake Erie event details
The City of Erie has announced the date of its annual Fourth of July fireworks show. Lights Over Lake Erie will take place on Thursday, July 3, at 10 p.m. on the bay. NAMI Erie rocks the bayfront at new fundraiser event The city is expecting thousands of people to gather, and with the high volumes, officials recommend making plans ahead of time. Events manager Gabi Watson said there are spots all over Erie to view the show. Annual Equipment Day returns to Erie Zoo this weekend She added that anywhere you can see the Bicentennial Tower is a great spot. 'There's a countdown, and it just kind of brings a sense of community together. It's really nice to see the amounts of people that come to these shows, so I think just seeing everybody so excited to watch the fireworks,' said Watson. 'Be careful, be comfortable, be aware of your surroundings. We want you to enjoy the show and make it home safely as well.' North East students embrace community service during Giving Back Day
Students in the North East school district spent the day out of the classroom doing community service. It was all part of their Giving Back Day. North East building that stood for over 125 years torn down Students got their hands dirty, planting flowers on campus and painting murals in Herd and Gibson Parks. They also raked and weeded out the memorial garden area at the Mellon Veteran Outreach Center. Annual Equipment Day returns to Erie Zoo this weekend 'Some of my family actually serves too. It means a lot that we're helping and taking time out of class time to really help with stuff like this,' said Latrel Centner, an 8th grader. 'I'd much rather help out the community clean up the community than just do paperwork,' said Joseph Long, an 8th grader. ‘True construction' starting soon on EMI building
Renovation at the Erie Malleable Iron Building continues to move along swiftly, with 'true construction' scheduled to begin soon. Construction workers are repairing the brick and have removed 99 percent of the roof. Erie County mosquitoes test positive for West Nile Virus President & CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority said they plan to install the new roof and windows within the next month. She added they are building for the future while honoring the history of the 12th Street corridor. Annual Equipment Day returns to Erie Zoo this weekend 'I can't tell you how exciting it is to be on site to see the progress and the bones of the building are so incredible its really inspiring. It reinforces that we did the right thing by saving this building and rebuilding it,' said Tina Mengine, president & CEO of the Erie County Redevelopment Authority.
