Bystander dies in 7-vehicle crash amid high-speed police chase in Sacramento

( — An innocent bystander is dead after being involved in a 7-vehicle crash that stemmed from a police chase in Sacramento on Saturday morning. Around 10:15 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 7300 block of Farm Dale Way to perform a civil standby for a woman who said she was a domestic violence victim and wanted to remove her belongings from a household. According to SPD, a domestic violence report was filed last week, however, the suspect fled before officers arrived at the scene. Today, the suspect was located in a vehicle near the residence. Police respond to major car crash in South Sacramento Police said they attempted to pull over the suspect, but he fled. Subsequently, officers chased the vehicle he was driving until he crashed into multiple vehicles at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven. A driver who was uninvolved in the pursuit was struck by the suspect during the chase and pronounced dead at the scene, according to SPD. SPD said the suspect continued to run on foot but was caught and arrested. 'This suspect had a fresh domestic violence want for his arrest,' said an SPD Officer Anthony Gamble. 'He was also a parolee at large, and so our officers had an obligation to bring this person to justice.' Gamble added, 'He made the decision to run, he made the decision to drive at a high rate of speed. He put himself and everyone else's lives in danger by his actions and he caused this collision that took the life of someone who was not involved in this whatsoever.'
