(FOX40.COM) — An innocent bystander is dead after being involved in a 7-vehicle crash that stemmed from a police chase in Sacramento on Saturday morning.
Around 10:15 a.m., the Sacramento Police Department responded to the 7300 block of Farm Dale Way to perform a civil standby for a woman who said she was a domestic violence victim and wanted to remove her belongings from a household. According to SPD, a domestic violence report was filed last week, however, the suspect fled before officers arrived at the scene. Today, the suspect was located in a vehicle near the residence.

Police said they attempted to pull over the suspect, but he fled. Subsequently, officers chased the vehicle he was driving until he crashed into multiple vehicles at the intersection of Florin Road and Greenhaven.
A driver who was uninvolved in the pursuit was struck by the suspect during the chase and pronounced dead at the scene, according to SPD.
SPD said the suspect continued to run on foot but was caught and arrested.
'This suspect had a fresh domestic violence want for his arrest,' said an SPD Officer Anthony Gamble. 'He was also a parolee at large, and so our officers had an obligation to bring this person to justice.'
Gamble added, 'He made the decision to run, he made the decision to drive at a high rate of speed. He put himself and everyone else's lives in danger by his actions and he caused this collision that took the life of someone who was not involved in this whatsoever.'

Former NFL player Kelvin Joseph facing charges after crash that killed motorcyclist

DALLAS — Former NFL player Kelvin Joseph is facing charges for his involvement in a crash that killed a female motorcyclist on a Dallas-area freeway, The Dallas Morning News reported. Police in the Dallas suburb of Richardson said on social media that Joseph, who has been playing in the United Football League this spring, called police in Plano, another Dallas suburb, to report his involvement in the predawn crash Saturday. The 25-year-old Joseph, who was driving a BMW, was arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor, and collision involving personal injury or death, a second-degree felony. Police said 27-year-old Cody Morris of Plano was killed in the crash. Joseph was drafted by the Cowboys in 2021 and spent two seasons with them before he was traded to Miami. He also played briefly for Seattle and Indianapolis. The cornerback has been playing for the DC Defenders, who were set to play in a UFL conference championship game Sunday. The UFL said in a statement sent to Dallas TV station WFAA that it was aware of Joseph's arrest, but declined further comment. During the 2022 offseason with the Cowboys, Joseph was the passenger in an SUV from which two people fired shots into a group of men in Dallas, fatally striking one of the men in the head. Police concluded Joseph wasn't the shooter, and the NFL didn't suspend him. An attorney who previously represented Joseph didn't return a phone call from The Dallas Morning News. It wasn't immediately clear whether Joseph had an attorney following his arrest Saturday. ___ AP NFL:

Lithium-Ion batteries cause fire in Hernando County home: HCFR

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A fire broke out in a Brooksville residence Saturday afternoon after lithium-ion batteries were left charging inside the home. Hernando County Fire Rescue responded to the 800 block of Live Oak Drive to find smoke billowing out from the front door. Two people were inside the home at the time but escaped safely with no injuries. As an important safety reminder, continuously charging lithium-ion batteries can cause the battery to fail, which creates a very deadly gas release that can not only incapacitate people but also overheat and spontaneously catch fire. Former ‘Diddy' girlfriend reveals he's paying her rent during trial

A former romantic partner for Sean 'Diddy' Combs using the pseudonym 'Jane' described feeling financially coerced and revealed Combs is still paying for her rent, even as she testified against him at trial. Prosecutors hope the testimony by 'Jane' will drive home charges that include sex trafficking, racketeering conspiracy and transportation to engage in prostitution. Combs has pleaded not guilty to all charges.
