Nukon to offer Plex platform, boosting digital manufacturing in Australia

Rockwell Automation has announced the addition of Nukon as an Australian reseller and implementer of its cloud-based Plex smart manufacturing platform. This marks the first time the Plex platform will be sold and implemented in Australia by a partner outside Rockwell Automation, which previously handled all sales and deployment directly. The Plex platform is a cloud-based solution aimed at enhancing manufacturing operations by eliminating information silos, digitising supply chains, automating processes, and enabling the tracking of manufacturing activities from any device and location. It also delivers real-time actionable data for business users. Plex for improved efficiency Nukon, part of SAGE Group, will now offer its clients access to the Plex platform, complementing the company's existing digital advisory and delivery services in manufacturing execution and supply chain projects. Alec Konynenburg, Executive General Manager at Nukon, commented, "Nukon brings specialised digital advisory and delivery services to the manufacturing industry to help clients successfully implement Manufacturing Execution System (MES) and supply chain optimisation projects." He also said, "By adding Plex to our customer offering, Nukon can continue to assist customers by bridging the gap between OT and IT, offering real-time data, and providing tools that help companies scale." The platform is recognised for providing connected enterprise visibility, facilitating the monitoring of assets and plant-level performance. Its MES component is described as flexible and configurable, standardising operations across manufacturing environments and ensuring workflow consistency. Plex is currently used across several industries globally, including manufacturing, energy, defence, water and wastewater – all areas where Nukon has experience. Cloud-based modular platform "Plex is a cloud-based platform, that enables future-focussed manufacturers to achieve real-time integration, high levels of availability and flexibility, cybersecurity, and scalability," said Anthony Wong, Vice President, Enterprise Software Sales, Asia Pacific, Rockwell Automation. Wong further noted, "Being cloud-based makes it easier to keep software like Plex updated. New functionality is regularly being added, and because it's a modular system, it doesn't take everything else offline to perform an update." He highlighted the multi-functional nature of Plex: "In addition to performing the role of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, Plex also acts as a Manufacturing Execution System (MES), and Quality Management System (QMS) all in one, eliminating the need for separate software, and creating further efficiencies." Collaboration and business visibility The collaboration between Nukon and Rockwell Automation is expected to deliver improvements for businesses seeking greater clarity between operational technology (OT) and information technology (IT) functions. The partnership aims to support both large and smaller manufacturers by enhancing business process automation and data tracking from the production floor to the executive level. Konynenburg said, "Nukon bridge the gaps between the different silos within our client's businesses by working closely with automation and IT teams, to connect disparate silos. That collaborative process fosters clarity and leads to significant improvements throughout their businesses." He added, "Plex automates business processes and tracks data from the plant floor right through to the executive level, providing visibility, quality, and control. It is a natural fit within Nukon's expertise and is highly applicable to small and medium sized manufacturers, not just the bigger players." He also acknowledged challenges still faced by some customers: "We know some clients still struggle with spreadsheets and may have issues getting the right information for their quality processes. With Nukon and Plex coming together, our strengths combine to reduce the time taken to see benefits." SAGE Group's position and background Nukon is a subsidiary of SAGE Group, which has a longstanding presence in specialist industrial services. SAGE Automation, a sister company, was the first Australian Platinum System Integrator Partner within Rockwell's PartnerNetwork. Wong commented, "SAGE has been part of Rockwell's PartnerNetwork for many years, and as a platinum partner, it has used digital engineering tools to deliver efficiencies to machine builders, system integrators, and manufacturers." He detailed the history of the collaboration: "Since acquiring Plex in 2021, Rockwell has been selling and implementing the technology across Australia and New Zealand. Nukon is our first partner that will be reselling and implementing Plex to further grow the business across the region." As Wong put it, "With Nukon now implementing Plex in Australia, this partnership is set to expand even further, help bridge the OT/IT gap, and further benefit companies on their digital transformation journey." The SAGE Group recently announced an acquisition by Tetra Tech, a global provider of consulting and engineering services. Subject to customary closing conditions and approval, this transaction is intended to strengthen SAGE Group's market position and enable further expansion in water, energy, transportation, defence, and manufacturing sectors world-wide.

Actor Chapman To celebrates 20 years of marriage to Kristal Tin with heartfelt post

HONG KONG: As reported by The Star , Hong Kong-born Taiwanese actor Chapman To and former TVB star Kristal Tin recently celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary in a small party with good friends. Photo: Instagram/Kristal Tin Even fellow actor Anthony Wong made the journey all the way to Taiwan just to celebrate with the happy couple. Famous faces On June 7, To, 53, gave everyone a peek into the past, sharing an old photo from his wedding to Tin, 47. The picture showed him surrounded by some pretty famous faces, including Andy Lau, Wong Jing, and Shawn Yue, who were all reportedly his groomsmen. They dated for a good six years before To and Tin said 'I do' in June of 2005. 'It's been two decades, and while some of us are still here, others have gone their separate ways. I truly wish everyone finds their happiness. For me, that means truly living in the now – letting go of what's happened and not stressing about what's next,' said To in a Facebook post. Still in touch with Anthony Wong To shared a photo on his Instagram story with Anthony Wong, mentioning that out of all his groomsmen, the 63-year-old is the only one he's still in touch with after all this time. The actor concluded the festivities by sharing a brief video of Tin speaking about how he had changed her life. Meanwhile, over on Instagram, Tin opened up about how her own understanding of what 'tolerance' means has really evolved through the years. The actress from Brother's Keeper (2012) opened up, admitting she once had a pretty strong negative reaction to the whole idea of 'tolerating' things in a marriage. She actually thought, 'If we were so head-over-heels in love to start with, why on earth would we suddenly need to just 'put up with' things once we're married?' Embracing one's imperfections Tin revealed that her perspective has now changed, and she now sees tolerance as gently embracing one's imperfections rather than putting up with them. See also Jonathan Scott flirts with Zooey Dechanel on Instagram 'Can you believe it's been 20 years? Happy anniversary! I'm so grateful for your guidance and hope you'll continue to show me the way,' posted Tin together with a photo of To and their dog. You might recognise him from his memorable roles in movies like Infernal Affairs and Initial D. Interestingly, he officially became a Taiwanese citizen in 2022. Beyond acting, To is also the founder of a multimedia platform called Chapman To's Late Show . He began his career in TV soap operas before transitioning to the big screen in 2000. He was also a radio personality for Commercial Radio 2 (CR2), hosting a morning show, but he lost that job in 2006.

Anthony Wong says "no dice" on son becoming an actor

6 Jun - After attracting attention by sharing a photo of his eldest son Wong Yat Yat recently, Anthony Wong revealed that neither of his sons are interested in joining showbiz. The actor, who spoke to the media at the premiere of his new movie, "Valley of the Shadow of Death", said that his eldest son is currently working as a manager in a footwear company. "My eldest has tried filming before and he finds it tiring. What he wants most is to sit down and be rich. He has big ambitions and it's very clear," he said with a laugh. As for his youngest, who just graduated, Anthony said that he would rather work in designing rather than follow Anthony's footsteps. As for his new movie, the actor said that he was surprised that the film finally came to fruition, as he was actually approached by producer Louis Koo two years ago. "When he approached me, there was no script yet. I thought the plan was dead, but it was only delayed. Koo Jai is very thoughtful. I don't know if he appreciates me or pities me," he joked. SaaS adoption drives growth for manufacturers in Australia, NZ

Investment in Software-as-a-Service (SaaS) technologies is set to play a central role in driving agility and growth across the manufacturing sector in Australia and New Zealand, according to findings from Rockwell Automation's 2025 State of Smart Manufacturing Report. The report incorporates insights from 1,560 manufacturers worldwide, including 85 organisations based in Australia and New Zealand. It highlights that manufacturers in the region already dedicate 30% of their operational budgets to technology, with 71% adopting production monitoring solutions and 64% implementing asset performance management tools as part of their smart manufacturing strategies. The findings emerge against a backdrop of concern regarding Australia's declining productivity, which saw its steepest annual drop on record in 2022-23. Industry analysts and government bodies have highlighted the need for substantial investment in both digital tools and workforce capability enhancement to reverse this trend. According to a report by the Tech Council of Australia, artificial intelligence is expected to generate up to 200,000 AI-related jobs in Australia by 2030, with projected economic gains exceeding AUD $100 billion, primarily attributed to productivity improvements. Despite considerable investment in digital transformation, the adoption of smart hardware in Australia and New Zealand has shown signs of slowing. Only 24% of Australian and New Zealand manufacturers are currently utilising collaborative robots, a figure that trails behind the United Kingdom (30%) and Brazil (31%). Anthony Wong, Regional Director for the South Pacific at Rockwell Automation, commented on the relationship between people and technology amid ongoing sector changes. "Today's advancements are unlocking opportunities where people and technology together will define our future," Wong said. "As the report shows, global manufacturers are using smart solutions to navigate disruption and gain agility. With the right technology and talent, we can simplify complexity and lead confidently through change." Cybersecurity remains a priority in the manufacturing sector as threats to digital infrastructure continue to escalate. The Australian Government has committed between AUD $15 billion and AUD $20 billion over the next ten years to bolster national cyber defences. Businesses are also identifying cybersecurity as a worthwhile investment, with 41% of surveyed organisations in Australia and New Zealand reporting that cybersecurity initiatives offer the highest return on investment. While there are significant opportunities arising from Generative AI and Causal AI, these technologies bring associated risks, including data poisoning, AI hallucinations and model theft. Despite these concerns and government warnings, 95% of participating organisations in the region have either already invested in or plan to invest in Generative AI and Causal AI technologies. This rate is higher than the adoption levels reported in Japan (91%) and South Korea (93%). Some companies are using causal AI to enhance supply chain transparency and support data-driven decision-making. Cloud and SaaS adoption is gaining momentum among manufacturers, with the regional market for SaaS projected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 10.1% between 2025 and 2030. This growth is expected to see the market reach USD $57 billion by the end of the decade. The SoSM 2025 Report also notes that 89% of manufacturers in Australia and New Zealand have invested in or intend to invest in Cloud and SaaS technologies, trailing Canada (95%) and Brazil (100%), but indicating a strong rate of adoption. The report identifies other technology adoption trends in Australia and New Zealand. Digital twins and simulation technology have an adoption rate of 28%, similar to that of Canada (27%) and Germany (28%). Edge computing has been adopted by 71% of manufacturers, surpassing Canada (67%) and Germany (68%), but trailing behind France (85%) and India (80%). Robotic process automation (RPA) is currently implemented by 35% of surveyed firms, compared with 50% in Brazil and 46% in the United Kingdom. Additionally, an additional 41% plan to invest in RPA within the next five years. Enterprise asset management (EAM) solutions have been deployed by 68% of companies in the region, which matches adoption in Germany but remains behind Brazil (83%) and China (79%).

Valley of the Shadow of Death movie review: Anthony Wong plays a Christian pastor in doubt

2.5/5 stars Can a pastor forgive the young man who raped his daughter and indirectly caused her death? That is the premise of Valley of the Shadow of Death, a bold yet deeply flawed attempt to rethink Christianity's advocacy of unconditional kindness. It's a morality tale that proves more interesting on paper than it is in its execution. Three years after his teenage daughter Ching (Sheena Chan Shu-yan) killed herself in the aftermath of the traumatic incident, Leung ( Anthony Wong Chau-sang ) continues to put on a brave face as his church's shining light, even if his wife (Louisa So Yuk-wa), a hospital nurse who remains unnamed, has lost her faith. Play The pastor's strong will to move on is tested when his daughter's rapist, Lok (George Au Chun-ho), is released from prison and, by chance, is given shelter at his church. Should the still grieving father take the opportunity to avenge Ching? Or can he practise forgiveness as he has been ordained to do?
