Mumbai cops seize mephedrone worth crores and arrest five in multiple raids

Mumbai: The Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of Mumbai police seized 4 kg of Mephedrone (MD) worth ₹10 crore and arrested five individuals, including a Nigerian national, from different locations in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai. The crackdown on the drugs was across four ANC units of Ghatkopar, Bandra, and Worli. In the first raid on July 28, the Ghatkopar unit arrested two accused from Jogeshwari West, recovering 1 kg of Mephedrone valued at Rs 2.55 crore. The drugs were found during physical searches of the suspects. On Aug 7, the Bandra unit raided Pathanwadi in Malad East, arresting one person and seizing 766 grams of Mephedrone worth Rs 1.91 crore. That same day, the Worli Unit apprehended another individual from Dakshina Vahini, Dadar West, recovering 690 grams of Mephedrone valued at Rs 1.72 crore. He is alleged to be a key supplier in the network. The five accused, aged between 24 and 64, are currently in custody. All have been booked under relevant sections of the NDPS Act, 1985. Thane: Crime Branch's Anti-Narcotics Cell busted an inter-state drug trafficking network after arresting a 42-year-old Uttar Pradesh-based peddler and recovering 3.3 kg charas valued at Rs 3.39 crore during a meticulously planned operation on Wednesday night. Acting on specific intelligence inputs, police laid a trap near a society at Uthalsar Naka around 10:30 PM on Thursday, leading to the arrest of Mohammad Maqsood Mohammad Ahmed, native to Phoolpur, district Prayagraj. "The accused was allegedly preparing to distribute the contraband across the region when he was intercepted by the anti-narcotics team," said Amar Singh Jadhav, DCP Crime. The operation, conducted under the police commissioner's special anti-drug drive, was supervised by Dr Punjabrao Ugale, additional commissioner of police (crime), and DCP Amar Singh Jadhav, who coordinated the mission while senior police inspector Rahul Maske of the Anti-Narcotics Cell executed the ground operation. Police registered a case at Rabodi Police Station under NDPS Act various Sections with the accused remanded to police custody until August 4, said a police officer. Significantly, police sources revealed that a Nepal border connection emerged during preliminary investigations, suggesting possible cross-border drug smuggling operations. The police said they are now conducting an extensive probe to dismantle the entire supply chain, from production centres to local distribution networks.

Thane: The police in Thane have dismantled a drug trafficking operation, apprehending two individuals and confiscating mephedrone valued at more than Rs 4 crore. DCP Crime Amar Singh Jadhav confirmed the seizure of 2.18 kg of MD powder. The Anti-Narcotics Cell apprehended Irfan Ammanulah Shaikh, aged 36, a food delivery executive from Ulwe, Navi Mumbai. Officers caught him near Shilphata on Sunday and discovered 1.5 kg of mephedrone, also known as 'meow meow', valued at Rs 3 crore in his possession. Authorities believe Shaikh utilised his position as a delivery executive to distribute narcotics throughout Thane and Mumbai. Shaikh faces charges under the NDPS Act. Investigations are underway to trace his handlers, financial links, and possible accomplices. His call records and past delivery patterns are also being scrutinised to check for prior drug consignments and identify additional suspects. A search of his vehicle revealed 662 grams of MD, valued at Rs 92.68 lakh. Officials registered an FIR at Kalwa police station under NDPS Act Sections. The accused remains in police custody until July 30. Police said they are investigating Rizwan's links in Madhya Pradesh. The Thane police crime branch continues to investigate both cases, focusing on supply chains, storage facilities and interstate drug networks, with officers noting established connections between the cases.

Mumbai: In a major intelligence-based crackdown against narcotics trade, the Mumbai Police has busted a mephedrone drug manufacturing racket by uncovering a clandestine factory hidden behind a garage in Karnataka's Mysuru and seized contraband to the tune of Rs 390 crore. Four accused have been arrested in connection with the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) of the Saki Naka police station of Mumbai was able to make the drug bust in a closely coordinated effort with the Mysuru City police.'The successful seizure of Rs 390 crore worth Mephedrone from Mysuru is a significant milestone in our continued efforts to eliminate drugs from their very source,' Mumbai Police chief Deven Bharti said on Tuesday while congratulating the team that carried out the action was taken under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The team seized 187.97 kg of mephedrone worth Rs 381.96 crore from the factory. Earlier, in the same investigation, 4 kg of the drug valued at Rs 8.04 crore had been recovered from Kaman village, Vasai. The investigation began in April, when a person attempting to sell mephedrone within the Saki Naka police station limits was the Saki Naka police arrested three people who were selling drugs in the Kaman area of Vasai police pieced together the network, on July 25, one of the key conduits, Salim Imtiaz Sheikh alias Salim Langda (45), a resident of Rahul Nagar, Bandra West, revealed during interrogation that he had sourced MD from Mysuru. Based on this input, a police team conducted a technical analysis and surveillance, eventually tracing the manufacturing unit near Mysuru.'A team was formed which was sent to Karnataka. They raided the factory situated behind a garage in the Ring Road area of Mysuru City and seized MD drugs, raw materials, chemicals, equipment and machines,' said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone X) Dutta Nalawade.

Mumbai: A 39-year-old Nigerian national was arrested by the Worli unit of the Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) on Saturday for allegedly possessing 200 grams of cocaine worth Rs 2 crores in Mumbai's Malad area. However, the accused, Frank Chibuzar Nandi, has claimed that the narcotics were planted on him and that he has been falsely implicated in the case. According to police, acting on a specific tip-off, officers laid a trap near PJ Colony, Orlem Marve Road in Malad, and intercepted Nandi, who was reportedly carrying a bag. Upon searching the bag, police said they recovered 200 grams of white powder suspected to be a narcotic substance. A field drug test confirmed it to be cocaine. Police also seized a Honda City car from Nandi's possession. A panchnama was drawn on the spot, and Nandi was produced before the Holiday Court on Sunday. While the police sought custody for further investigation, the accused told the court that he had been framed. The magistrate then directed police to facilitate a phone call to his wife. Nandi remains in custody while further investigation is underway.
