India-Nepal border sealed ahead of PM's rally in Motihari today

Motihari: A day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's rally at Motihari in East Champaran on July 18, the porous India-Nepal border, especially at Raxaul in the district, was sealed on Thursday evening, with the deployment of Anti-terrorism Squad and special branch police personnel. The border will be opened on Friday after the rally of PM Modi. The police have been conducting a massive checking drive at different places on the border, with frisking of all people crossing the border to and from Nepal. The SSB jawans have also launched a day-and-night patrolling. Nishit Kumar, the SSB IG, said that surveillance cameras were installed at several places on the border to check infiltration. East Champaran district magistrate (DM) Saurabh Jorwal said that the Special Protection Group (SPG) of the PM took charge of the meeting venue, Gandhi Maidan, besides deployment of 16 IPS officers around the venue and two helipads, constructed for the occasion. The PM will land on the police line campus helipad, and CM Nitish Kumar and governor Arif Mohammed Khan will land near the firing range helipad. East Champaran superintendent of police (SP) Swarn Prabhat said that 10 companies of police force, including paramilitary, were deployed in the district to maintain law and order, and to keep a close watch on bad elements. Chairman of Railway Board, Satish Kumar; general manager of ECR, Kshtrashal Singh; and other top officials will participate in the PM's meeting, when he will lay foundation stones for rail projects worth Rs 5,398 crores and virtually flag off three Amrit Bharat Express trains. Special trains from Narkatiyaganj, Raxaul and Mehasi to Motihari station will also run on Friday for the convenience of passengers who would attend the PM's meeting scheduled to start around 11am. Local MP Radha Mohan Singh said on Thursday that apart from the three Amrit Bharat trains, two bi-weekly Amrit Bharat Express trains will also run from Motihari to Anand Bihar.
