Kate Beckinsale Praises Pets for ‘Holding Us by a Thread' After ‘Canary Black' Lawsuit Goes Public

Kate Beckinsale is seemingly finding solace in her beloved animals after amending a lawsuit she filed against the company and producers behind her 2024 action film Canary Black. On June 11, the actress, 51, shared a video of herself wearing a white dress, an oversized black bow and black boots while holding her dog. 'Shoutout to the furry ones holding us by a thread,' Beckinsale wrote alongside the video, which was accompanied by Randy Newman's 'You've Got a Friend in Me.' She followed up the post with photos of Kate Truitt's Keep Breathing: A Psychologist's Intimate Journey Through Loss, Trauma, and Rediscovering Life and underlined pages from the book. The posts come on the heels of a lawsuit the Underworld alum filed against Anton Entertainment Media Services, Inc; Canary Black, LTD; producer John Zois; and more — who she worked with on the thriller — being made public. In December 2024, Beckinsale sued the parties for negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and battery under the name Jane Doe — however on May 21, Beckinsale amended the lawsuit to include her name. In the newly amended filing, obtained by Star, the actress alleges she was 'repeatedly exposed to unsafe and dangerous conditions' on set of Canary Black, which resulted in Beckinsale 'suffering severe and debilitating injuries.' According to the documents, Beckinsale and her team brought up their concerns regarding 'long, dangerous set days, often lasting fifteen hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel to help manage the high physical workload and recover from the exertion off set.' It also claims Beckinsale was not adequately informed about challenging stunts ahead of time. In 2022, Beckinsale emailed Zois and expressed her concerns about being unprepared and undertrained when it involved stunts, including one involving hanging from a wire. 'SpEaking [sic] last night to a few actors and actresses I know in my position, no one has ever been told something was green screen and found out day of a portion of it was practical,' Beckinsale told the producer, per the documents. 'What I am suggesting is merely what has been absolutely standard on every movie I have appeared in before.' The documents also claim that Beckinsale was not given appropriate padding for a scene in which an actor threw her against a wall, resulting in 'significant injuries, including a complex meniscus tear in her left knee.' Two months before Beckinsale filed the initial lawsuit under the name 'Jane Doe', she took to Instagram to dispel a review by The Guardian that theorized that she didn't do her own stunts. 'Kicking impeccably chic ass 🩷and a couple of close ups doesn't half hurt lol,' she captioned a post that featured clips of herself in action and photos of various injuries she seemingly sustained on set.

Kate Beckinsale Sues Canary Black Producers for Forcing Her Into Hazardous Stunts Despite Doctor's Orders

Kate Beckinsale has filed a high-profile lawsuit against Canary Black producer John Zois and the film's production company, Anton Entertainment Media Services, Inc., accusing them of negligence, battery, and intentional infliction of emotional distress. The action-thriller, directed by Taken's Pierre Morel, was released on October 3, 2024. However, Beckinsale's legal battle began quietly in December that year under the alias 'Jane Doe,' as reported by Puck. On May 21, 2025, the actress amended her complaint, naming the parties involved and detailing the extent of her injury and subsequent mistreatment. Beckinsale initially suffered a complex meniscus tear in her left knee in December 2022 while performing on-set stunts. Following surgery and a production delay, her doctor, Dr. Jason Snibbe, advised against running, jumping, squatting, kicking, or any suspension work. Despite these clear medical restrictions, producers allegedly compelled her to resume action-heavy filming without making any adjustments or providing pre-training. According to the complaint, Beckinsale was subjected to punishing 15-hour shooting days with inadequate medical support and late stunt briefings. Her team repeatedly raised concerns about unsafe practices, including insufficient recovery protocols and a lack of clear communication regarding stunt expectations. As reported by People, her agent, Shani Rosenzweig, emailed Zois demanding immediate change, even warning, 'If you're trying to kill a person, you're doing a great job.' Though Zois responded with acknowledgment, the dangerous conditions allegedly persisted. The complaint states that Beckinsale's condition worsened due to the disregard of safety measures, resulting in aggravated injuries that could have been avoided. Her legal team—Marty Singer and Brian Panish—argues that the actions taken by the producers prioritized profit over her well-being. So far, representatives for both Beckinsale and Zois have not commented publicly on the ongoing legal matter.

Kate Beckinsale sues Canary Black producers for negligence following knee injury

Kate Beckinsale is suing the producers of Canary Black for negligence after she was injured on set. The 51-year-old actress has claimed she was subjected to "dangerous and unsafe conditions" on the set of the crime drama, which was released last October, and is taking legal action against Anton Entertainment Media Services, Inc., and its employees, including producer John Zois, after accusing them of negligence, intentional infliction of emotional distress and battery, Puck reports. Kate initially filed her lawsuit under the anonymous alias Jane Doe in December, but she issued an amended complaint on 21 May, which included communications with the producers and further details of her injury. In the complaint, Kate alleged she arrived on set in Croatia in 2022 to discover the personal trainer, massage therapist and gym equipment she had been promised were not present, 15-hour days were common, and she was pushed to do her own stunts after her body double broke her ankle and producers drafted in an "unqualified" replacement, who was the girlfriend of Canary Black's stunt coordinator. People magazine reports her agent, Shani Rosenzweig, wrote to Zois: 'No one is actually taking real action to put a plan in place to fix this situation so it never happens again… [Ms. Beckinsale] keeps showing up to set for her call time and everyone around her has been made aware it's going to be a 15 hour [or more] day except for her. "If you're trying to kill a person, you're doing a great job." He allegedly replied and agreed to shorten the "unsustainable" work days. He added: "I don't know what else to say other than you're right.' However, the 15-hour days were said to have continued. The lawsuit alleged concerns about on-set safety were largely ignored and production was halted for months when Kate suffered a complex meniscus tear in her left knee during a scene when a male co-star threw her against a wall. Filming finally resumed after consultations with the actress' surgeon and lawyer, who asked an on-set physiotherapist to be able to shut things down and a list of limitations was agreed on, including no running, humping, harness suspension, squatting or kicking. But the lawsuit stated: "Production made little to no attempt to adhere to the list [and] acted intentionally … to put Ms. Beckinsale in unsafe situations, and coerce her while on camera to perform.' Kate alleged she suffered further injuries "including aggravation and exacerbation of her existing injuries, which was entirely avoidable", as a result of the alleged negligence and "conscious and reckless decisions" being made on set. In the newly amended complaint, Beckinsale allegedly suffered a 'significant trauma' to her knee after she was exposed to "dangerous and unsafe conditions" on the Canary Black set. "Ms. Beckinsale and her team repeatedly raised red flags regarding unsafe conditions on and off set to Defendants, including long, dangerous set days, often lasting fifteen hours, inadequate equipment and medical personnel to help manage the high physical workload and recover from the exertion off set, and failure to adequately inform Ms. Beckinsale of what stunts she was expected to perform until often the moment she had to perform it,' the complaint read. The actress also alleges that although she raised her concerns repeatedly, the producers put her " in harm's way" after they "continued to recklessly and intentionally forge ahead with unsafe filming conditions, forgoing safety to maintain profit margins."
