MDEC, CelcomDigi launch IMMERSE KL to drive tech innovation
KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), in collaboration with CelcomDigi, has launched IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi – a flagship event aimed at advancing innovation in immersive technology and creative content. Positioned as a key driver of Malaysia's digital transformation, the event reflects the country's rising focus on XR, virtual production, gamification, immersive storytelling and Web3 to accelerate tech adoption across industries. MDEC chief executive officer Anuar Fariz Fadzil said the event serves as a catalyst for digital innovation, positioning Malaysia as a leader in the immersive tech landscape. "With partners like CelcomDigi, we are shaping a future driven by creativity and emerging technology," he added. The standalone flagship initiative has evolved from the Malaysia Digital Content Festival (MYDCF) to become a focused platform for showcasing immersive and creative technologies. The 2025 edition is expected to draw over 300 participants and 120 companies from Malaysia and the region. As the official partner, CelcomDigi will showcase real-world applications of XR and 5G technologies across multiple sectors, including education, industry and healthcare. Key highlights include CelcomDigi Metaversity, an XR-powered immersive learning environment. It will also include training, simulation and remote support in the industrial metaverse as well as healthcare innovations, which is XR-based 3D DICOM visualisation for medical use. "We are excited to support IMMERSE KL x CelcomDigi as a platform to spark innovation, collaboration and new possibilities for Malaysia's digital future," said CelcomDigi chief innovation officer T. Kugan.

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 (Bernama) -- The Malaysia Digital Xceleration (MDX) Summit 2025 will focus on next-generation technologies, discussing five key points in panel sessions throughout the three-day event. MDX will take place from Sept 17 to 19 at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, alongside the SmartGov Malaysia Summit 2025. The MDX Summit is co-organised by the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) and the National Digital Department. Meanwhile, hybrid events curator and platform provider Synapze Sdn Bhd is a strategic partner. MDEC chief executive officer (CEO) Anuar Fariz Fadzil said the summit is anticipated to further boost Malaysia's digital leadership in ASEAN by driving innovation, investment and inclusive growth. PETALING JAYA: Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is introducing two grants totalling RM2.9 million aimed at accelerating digital transformation in two of Malaysia's most strategic sectors – artificial intelligence (AI) and manufacturing. Eligibility for these grants is exclusively extended to companies possessing Malaysia Digital (MD) or MSC Malaysia status, or to those with a pending MD status application at the time of applying for the grant. The two new grants – the Malaysia Digital Acceleration Grant – Artificial Intelligence (MDAG-AI) and the SmartMFG+ Incentive Programme – are designed to support high-potential local companies by promoting innovation, developing export-ready digital solutions and creating high-skilled employment opportunities. MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil described the grants as both timely and strategic, giving a significant boost to Malaysia's digital transformation agenda. 'MDAG-AI establishes a foundational framework for Malaysia to emerge as a preeminent hub for AI innovation, while SmartMFG+ lays the groundwork for widespread digitalisation across the manufacturing industry. Collectively, these initiatives serve as a dual engine to advance our digital ambitions,' said Anuar. The MDAG-AI grant is specifically designed to support Malaysian digital companies in the commercialisation of AI solutions. It targets high-impact projects that correspond with the national AI investment strategy, focusing on companies with capabilities across the foundational, enabling, and application layers of AI. This initiative builds upon the momentum generated by prior programmes, concentrating on AI product commercialisation, cross-sector AI application, talent development and knowledge transfer. It is strategically aligned with the National AI Roadmap, reinforcing Eligible companies may apply for funding of up to 70% of total project costs, capped at RM2 million, for projects spanning a duration of up to one year. Application is now open till July 18 and successful applicants will be announced at the Malaysia Digital Expo (MDX) in September.

Selected MD-status companies will receive funding of up to 70 per cent of their solution development costs, with the maximum amount capped at RM75,000 per company.

RM450 million secured as 26 MoUs signed between Malaysia, Indonesia firms
Malaysian and Indonesian delegates at DEX CONNEX Indonesia. JAKARTA (July 4): A total of 26 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) were signed between Malaysian and Indonesian companies under the DEX CONNEX Indonesia programme, unlocking over RM450 million in digital export opportunities for 83 Malaysian tech firms. The initiative led by Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) is part of ongoing efforts to expand regional cooperation and boost Malaysia's digital economy across Asean. The MoUs cover sectors such as cybersecurity, AI, cloud services, food and beverage, digital platforms and talent development. The goal, according to MDEC in a statement on Thursday, is to build a strong and collaborative digital ecosystem across Asean, with Malaysia championing innovation as Asean Chair this year. MDEC CEO Anuar Fariz Fadzil said Indonesia plays a vital role in Malaysia's digital ambitions. He said Malaysia is focusing on cross-border collaboration to build a resilient digital bridge between two thriving tech ecosystems. 'With our strong tech ecosystem and the spirit of ASEAN unity, both nations continue to nurture a future where digital growth is inclusive, sustainable, and benefits all layers of society, ensuring long-term success,' he added. DEX CONNEX Indonesia is backed by the Embassy of Malaysia in Jakarta, the Ministry of Investment, Trade and Industry (MITI), Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (MATRADE) Jakarta, and Indonesia's Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs (KOMDIGI), along with various public and private sector partners from both countries. Anuar was joined at the MoU exchange ceremony by Malaysia's Ambassador to Indonesia Datuk Syed Md Hasrin Tengku Hussin. DEX CONNEX is a flagship platform under MDEC's GAIN (Gateway, Amplify, Invest and Nurture) programme which links Malaysian companies to global markets and tech ecosystems to drive bilateral digital trade. From 2017 to 2023, the GAIN programme recorded RM31.9 billion in revenue and over RM11.2 billion in exports. These results are driven by Malaysian companies making full use of MDEC's export facilitation and market access support.
