1 2 Jamshedpur: A cache of arms and explosives, including SLRs looted from police personnel, were found by the 209 Battalion of the CRPF and the district police during an anti-Maoist operation in Saranda forest area of West Singhbhum, police said. DIG (Kolhan) Anuranjan Kispotta on Friday said the arms and ammunition were recovered from the Dugunia-Posiata-Tumbagada stretch of the forest under Goilkera police station limits. The cache includes four self loading rifles (SLRs), nine SLR magazines, 527 live cartridges, nine empty shells, one light machine gun magazine and three detonators. Besides Naxalite literature, uniforms and items of personal use were found, he said. "Cordon-and-search operations have been intensified in the area after Maoist area commander Arun alias Nilesh Makdam was gunned down on August 13," he added. "Operations have been intensified and it is only a matter of time before the Maoists are eliminated," SP Rakesh Ranjan said. CHAIBASA: A member of the banned CPI (Maoist) was killed in a gunfight between red rebels and security forces in Jharkhand's West Singhbhum district on Wednesday, police said. The encounter took place in Souta area under the Goilkera Police Station limits early this morning during a search operation by the security forces, a senior officer said. "An exchange of fire took place between Maoists and security forces, in which a member of the CPI (Maoist) was killed," Kolhan Inspector General of Police Manoj Kaushik told PTI. The search operation is underway, Kolhan DIG Anuranjan Kispotta told PTI.
