Kolkata hosts nationwide quiz contest 'Anvesha 2.0' to celebrate 75 years of National Sample Survey
Kolkata: In a bid to commemorate 75 years of the National Sample Survey (NSS), the National Statistics Office (NSO)-Kolkata organized 'Anvesha 2.0', a nationwide quiz contest on official statistics. Around 42 colleges participated in the contest, reflecting the growing interest in the field of official statistics among youth. Several colleges and universities from across Kolkata and adjacent areas were invited with teams comprising two students each. The quiz began with a preliminary written round comprising 20 questions, based on which the top 10 teams were shortlisted for the final round. The finale featured engaging and thought-provoking rounds, covering topics such as official surveys, key national indicators, and statistical goals. Live Events After the contest, Globsyn Business School became the champions while University of Kalyani secured the position as the 1st runners-up. St. Xavier's College was declared the 2nd runners-up. Salil Mukhopadhyay, Additional Director General, EnSD, emphasized the relevance of statistics in everyday life and its role in evidence-based decision-making. Additional Director General-HSD Ajay Baksi spoke on the legacy and scope of surveys conducted by NSSO over the years. The winning teams were awarded trophies, medals, certificates, and cash prizes, while all participants received certificates of participation, acknowledging their effort and enthusiasm, a statement said.

‘NSS helping shape policies for growth'
Lucknow: At least 25 teams comprising 50 students from various colleges and institutes participated in the state-level quiz competition 'Anvesha 2.0', organized by the state capital office of the National Statistical Office (NSO) to mark the 75th anniversary of National Sample Survey (NSS). Dean, faculty of science at LU, Sheela Misra said, "NSS plays a crucial role in capturing the socio-economic realities of our nation, helping shape effective policies for inclusive growth." Deputy director general, NSO, Suchita Gupta said, "NSS continues to provide valuable insights that support a developed and data-driven India." Anshika Shukla and Swati Dwivedi bagged first prize, Gangotri Singh and Pragati won second prize, while Eeshan Soni and Om Mishra won the third prize.
