KITE deploys 2,161 robotic kits in schools in Kerala's Kannur to boost practical learning in robotics

The Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has completed the deployment of 2,161 robotic kits across 180 schools in Kannur district of Kerala, ensuring hands-on robotics education for all Class 10 students from this academic year. As part of the revised ICT curriculum, the sixth chapter titled The World of Robots, introduces students to robotics concepts through practical activities such as circuit construction, the use of sensors and actuators and controlling devices via computer programming. The first mandatory activity in the syllabus is the assembly of automatic hand sanitiser dispenser using components like Arduino breadboards, IR sensors, servo motors and jumper wires. This is followed by a more advanced task-building smart door that recognises faces and open automatically using an AI-based home automation system. KITE has also enabled a direct procurement system for school requiring additional kits. Meanwhile, training is under way for 758 ICT teachers in the district, with completion targeted for the first week of August. 'Besides the basic kits, advanced robotics kits that allow the creation of mobile robots will be supplied to Little KITES units this year,' said KITE CEO K. Anwar Sadath. He added that KITE will also conduct school-level Robofests to showcase projects and encourage innovation. The initiative aims to nurture technological skills and creativity among students, aligning with the State's broader digital education goals.
