Aparshakti Khurana to play the antihero in his Tamil film debut

'I explained the character to him over phone, and then sent him the bound script on the same day. Within a week, we met in Mumbai and locked him in for the project,' says director Sooriyaprathap S. Aparshakti Khurana is all set to make his Tamil debut, in Root , starring Gautham Ram Karthik. The Bollywood actor will be seen in the role of a serial killer. Sooriyaprathap S, the director of the sci-fi crime thriller, tells us, 'I'm a big fan of Aparshakti's work, especially what he did in Jubilee (the 2023 web series directed by Vikramaditya Motwane). I've wanted to work with him ever since I saw him in it.' Stating that the Stree actor has a grey-shaded role that is 'performance-orientated', the filmmaker adds, 'Rather than an antagonist, the perfect word to describe his character would be 'antihero'. He hardly has any dialogues in the first half, and only a good performer can convey emotions without lines.' 'I explained the character to him over phone, and then sent him the bound script on the same day. Within a week, we met in Mumbai and locked him in for the project,' he adds. 'Bollywood actors respect south creators' Sooriyaprathap stresses that approaching a Bollywood actor for a Tamil film was not as difficult as he thought it would be. 'Normally, we think that a Bollywood actor coming on board for a South film would entail a big procedure. The talk here is that approaching them is hard, as we have to reach them through an agency, and they take time to read the script. We think there is a boundary between the different film industries, but that's not true. ' He also emphasises that Bollywood actors are open and respect creators from the South.
