Prayagraj: In an attempt to assist flood relief operations and its elaborate management during monsoon, the state govt has mooted a proposal to appoint 'Apda Sakhiya' (Disaster Friends) across the state.
The training of disaster friends will begin in the state capital on Monday, June 9.
Flood relief operation and its management are priority of the state govt, especially in those districts, which often witness floods due to the rise in water levels of rivers during monsoon, the govt has decided to promote public participation to minimise the damage caused by floods and natural disasters. The deployment of an adequate number of disaster friends is an effort towards serving the public in times of crisis.
The state govt decided to appoint as many as 44 disaster friends in Sangam City. Women associated with self-help groups in the National Livelihood Mission will be given training for the same.
In Prayagraj district, apart from the Ganga and Yamuna rivers, floods in more than half a dozen tributary rivers cause economic loss worth lakhs of rupees every year. This loss can be reduced by creating awareness in the areas along the rivers.
