KOTA KINABALU: Api-Api Assemblywoman Datuk Seri Christina Liew has expressed satisfaction with the progress of road patching work, clogged drain clearance and grass cutting services provided by the relevant authorities, following her latest visit to various parts of her constituency. Most recently, she was on her routine site inspection to identify roads and drains overgrown with grass that needed prompt attention. 'I hope the condition of Jalan Bukit Punai will be improved to ease mobility for residents in the area,' said Liew, adding that Lorong Sena 1 needs resurfacing. Accompanying the Api-Api Assemblywoman were engineers from the Public Works Department (JKR) and Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK). Also present were Kapitan Nancy Chua Li Wah, Kapitan Margaret Chong Moi Hiong, Api-Api Community Development Leader Theresa Chong Mui Lan and Community Development Officer Yoong Yik Tin. Appropriate action has since been taken to cut the grass and clear the drainage along Jalan Menteri, Jalan Kebajikan, Jalan Sang Kancil (1, 2 & 3), and Jalan Tadika Tzu Yu. To prevent flooding, a section of the drain overgrown with vegetation along a stretch of Jalan Sena in the Sunny Garden housing estate was also addressed immediately. 'I commend the authorities concerned for their swift response to public needs,' Liew added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? KOTA KINABALU: Parti Gagasan Rakyat Sabah (PGRS) Api-Api Division Chief Datuk Faisyal Yusof Hamdain has called on party members to view time and financial sacrifices as necessary investments for long-term political success. Speaking to some 200 delegates at the division's annual meeting here on Sunday, Faisyal said while current sentiment favors local parties, collaboration with the federal government remains crucial. Advertisement He acknowledged the contributions of former national parties but emphasized that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) represents the present and future of Sabah politics. Faisyal pledged Gagasan Rakyat's support for any GRS or Pakatan Harapan candidate in upcoming elections and urged the youth wing to focus on mobilizing young voters, who make up half of Sabah's electorate. He noted that with Api-Api's voter composition—48pc Bumiputera and 40pc Chinese—there is a real opportunity for GRS to make inroads in a seat long held by Chinese representatives. 'A GRS victory here is possible within five to ten years,' he said, citing the coalition's broad appeal under its multiracial platform. Advertisement To boost voter outreach, a series of programs are being planned. Youth chief Safwan Faisyal Diego announced a townhall session with business and community leaders, in collaboration with former mayor Datuk Yeo Boon Hai, and a soup kitchen initiative with Jetsin Sdn Bhd's Datuk Jade Koh. Safwan said Api-Api's ethnic mix including Chinese, Dusun, Malay, and Tausug members reflects GRS's inclusivity. 'That's the beauty of GRS and Gagasan Rakyat. As long as you're a Sabahan, you'll always have a place with us,' he added. * Follow us on our official WhatsApp channel and Telegram for breaking news alerts and key updates! * Do you have access to the Daily Express e-paper and online exclusive news? Liew vows to continue serving amid Sabah election uncertainty
Liew speaking to reporters. KOTA KINABALU (May 10): Api-Api assemblywoman Datuk Seri Panglima Christina Liew has affirmed her commitment to continuing her duties in the state government and serving the public, amid shifting political developments ahead of the 17th Sabah State Election (PRN17). Liew stated that she remains in the dark about the ongoing political manoeuvrings, noting that the allocation of seats for PRN17 will only be known following the dissolution of the State Legislative Assembly. 'I seriously don't know what's going on. From the news I've read so far, the Chief Minister said the partnership will only be announced after the State Assembly is dissolved. 'So, I'm looking forward to seeing how things unfold. Of course, there are new issues every day. Personally, I'm just observing for now. 'But regardless of what happens, and whatever changes may or may not come, we remain part of the government and continue to serve our constituencies. That responsibility never changes, we are always here to provide services to the people,' she said. Liew made the remarks in response to a recent statement by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who is also chairman of Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS). Hajiji indicated that GRS may contest PRN17 independently if Pakatan Harapan (PH) and Barisan Nasional (BN) decide to form a coalition. Liew is a state assembly member representing Parti Keadilan Rakyat (Keadilan), under the PH coalition. She is currently serving as the Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment in the GRS–PH state administration. She added that she would only provide further comments once she has received clear and definitive information on the matter. 'I would like to get more definite answers first before I even make any comment,' she said. Liew was speaking to reporters after officiating the launch of the 2025 MATTA Fair Sabah at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Saturday.
