Clemson makes a huge move in the transfer portal landing shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger
Clemson makes a huge move in the transfer portal landing shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger Clemson baseball has landed one of its first portal additions of the offseason. App State shortstop Tyler Lichtenberger has committed to the Tigers after making a visit to campus on Thursday, according to multiple sources. The standout freshman brings immediate impact potential after an impressive debut season in Boone. Lichtenberger was named Sun Belt Freshman of the Year in 2025, hitting .341 with 13 doubles, three home runs, two triples and 44 RBIs. He recorded 24 multi-hit games, reached base in 46 of 52 regular-season contests—including the first 34 games of the year—and also swiped seven bases in nine attempts. His 70 hits ranked among the top 10 in the conference. With Andrew Ciufo exhausting his eligibility, Clemson had a clear need at shortstop heading into next season. While incoming freshman Dax Kilby is a highly regarded option, there's a strong chance he's selected in July's MLB Draft, potentially opening the door for Lichtenberger to step into a starting role right away. Tennessee Gives Update on Touted QB Joey Aguilar
The Tennessee Volunteers dealt with Nico Iamaleava's exit by adding UCLA Bruins quarterback Joey Aguilar to the quarterback room, which includes signal-callers Jake Merklinger and George MacIntyre. Head coach Josh Heupel provided an update on Aguilar, revealing that the highly regarded recruit is expected to arrive on campus by early June. The Vols eagerly anticipate Aguilar's integration into the team, especially as they rebuild their quarterback depth. Advertisement Patrick Brown of 247Sports reported on Tuesday, "Aguilar has been having virtual sessions with Tennessee's coaches via Zoom to help him get started with learning the offense while he completes his necessary academic obligations to complete his transfer, and the Vols are expecting him to get to campus in mid-to-late May." Tennessee Volunteers head coach Josh Heupel© Steve Roberts-Imagn Images He's able to be in contact,' Heupel said last week after the Tri-Cities stop of the Big Orange Caravan stop in Kingsport, Tenn., 'but he should be showing up here relatively quickly.' Aguilar, playing for App State Mountaineers, tallied 3,003 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and 14 interceptions during the 2024 season. The Vols are optimistic that Aguilar's arrival will bring much-needed competition to the quarterback room and strengthen their offensive scheme under Heupel's system. Advertisement 'Man, you're going to start with the offense, understanding the communication process, the play calls, but then fundamentals and technique,' Heupel said. 'As everybody gets back here, then we get into more ball where we're all together. He'll start developing timing with the wide receivers as they get out there and start throwing it and growing and starting to build connection with your teammates and start garnering respect from those guys.' Omarion Hampton meets with historic NFL team, former UNC football player at NFL Combine
Omarion Hampton meets with historic NFL team, former UNC football player at NFL Combine Will a UNC football connection land Omarion Hampton in the Windy City? Hundreds of pro football hopefuls are currently at the NFL Combine, showcasing their skills in front of numerous executives and coaches, hoping to get a shot at living out their childhood dreams. One of those NFL hopefuls hits a little closer to home: running back Omarion Hampton, arguably the best recent back in UNC football history. Hampton started 2023 on the depth chart behind British Brooks, then overtook him after his first career 200-yard performance, which came against App State. Hampton ended 2023 with 1,504 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns, then followed that breakout campaign with a 1,660-yard, 15 touchdown campaign in 2024. We don't know which team will be lucky enough yet to choose Hampton in April's NFL Draft, but we do know at least one team that Hampton met with. On Friday, February 28, Windy City Gridiron's Khari D. Thompson reported that Hampton met with the Chicago Bears, who have a brand-new head coach in former Tar Heel walk-on Ben Johnson. Chicago currently has former Georgia Bulldog D'Andre Swift leading its backfield, but the depth behind Swift thins in extensive experience with Roschon Johnson, Travis Homer and Darrynton Evans. Hampton is the type of running back NFL teams should covet, as Hampton exudes a calm confidence, can shake off multiple tacklers with his low center of gravity, plus can leave opposing defenses in the dust with his top-rank speed. Running backs are very disposable in the NFL – unless they produce consistently from day one. Hampton hasn't taken an professional snap yet, but with how much he produced at North Carolina over the past two seasons, I can see a long NFL for the kid from Clayton.
