Here's all the new features coming to your Apple device
Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference is ostensibly an event where app-makers can hear from the company's engineers and learn about new system features. But it's also become the place where the public hears about all the cool stuff coming soon to their devices. At the keynote address in Cupertino, we saw dozens of new features across Apple's six coming operating systems (all named version 26, as the company has moved to a year-based convention), which will be available for your devices in beta next month, and in full release later this year. Liquid Glass The biggest feature was Liquid Glass, a new visual design coming to all Apple's devices. Elements of the operating systems are meant to appear as though they're made of magical, floating, transforming glass, either coloured or transparent, with glossy highlights and refractions of the elements beneath them. In some apps, elements will only appear if you need them, or will expand when tapped. Others, such as the time on the iPhone's lock screen, will dynamically change size and shape. In addition to light and dark modes, a new transparent mode will make your app icons look like stacks of clear glass. Games Another feature coming to multiple devices is the new Games app, which takes elements of the App Store and Game Centre and puts them together as a sort of Apple-specific launcher. You'll be able to see every game you've ever installed, view your friends and their achievements, and get personalised recommendations on your next game. On Mac, there's also an in-game overlay to access options.

Best Buy planning huge changes to the way you shop
When it comes to making a consumer electronics purchase, unless you're in the market for an Apple-specific thing and you go to the Apple store to get, you're likely going to Best Buy (BBY) . While it's technically been around since 1966 under the name Sound of Music, Best Buy didn't get the name we all know it as now until 1983 when it opened in Burnsville, Minnesota. Don't miss the move: Subscribe to TheStreet's free daily newsletter After the store made $28 million in its first year - an enormous amount of money for 1983 - founder Dick Schulze said he knew the strategy he had in mind was going to work. Related: Best Buy CEO raises red flag about startling customer behavior Schulze also mentioned that one of his first key learnings was staying focused on the customer, which is something the chain continues to do today. However, much like other businesses in the retail space, Best Buy is forced to face new headwinds due to constantly shifting information about tariffs. CEO Corrie Barry said in the company's Q1 2025 earnings call that "China remains the number one source for products we sell" - but also that Best Buy has "already made the related price and promotional adjustments to our assortment" as of mid-May, so the price you see in stores will not be making major leaps anytime soon. That said, Best Buy is planning some big changes that will improve the shopper experience, and if you're a regular shopper there, you'll want to keep an eye out for them. Image source: Bloomberg/Getty Images Best Buy mentioned something new coming during the conference call: a search system on its website and app that will be much easier to use thanks to - you guessed it - AI. "This new experience will have AI-powered prompts to guide customers to more specific searches and natural conversational filtering for easier product discovery," Barry said. "It will also have fewer, higher-quality matches that reflect customer intent and richer product information to support confident buying decisions." Related: Costco's newest item is impossible to find anywhere else Best Buy says it expects to roll out the new version of search later this year. The company also mentioned it would make more in-store improvements in Q2, mentioning expansions to its tablet and virtual reality departments as well as what it calls "enhancing experiences" for the launch of the Nintendo Switch 2. Speaking of that, Best Buy will have its hands full this week with the launch of Nintendo's new Switch 2 video game console on June 5, which is sold out at all participating retailers as of the time of this writing. Walmart and Target also accepted preorders for the new system, but made many customers angry when they canceled some of them, leading to extensive complaints online. Since customers have been so disappointed with the way Walmart and Target have handled their orders of the in-demand console, Best Buy has a great chance to win them over as customers if it can deliver the goods and provide a smooth midnight release. Apple Leads Magnificent 7 Stocks Higher Friday to Cap Off Volatile Week
Apple (AAPL) shares surged Friday, leading other Magnificent Seven members higher amid a broader market rebound to cap off a wild week fueled by tariff-driven volatility. Apple shares jumped 4% to close at $198.15, posting gains for a week that included three losing sessions and the stock's best day since 1998. Still, it has yet to fully recover from the hit taken since President Trump's tariff announcement on April 2, on worries about escalating trade tensions with China, where Apple manufactures an estimated 90% of its products. The gains for Apple's stock Friday came amid growing optimism the iPhone maker could win an exemption from the Trump administration's tariffs. Mizuho analyst Jordan Klein reportedly told clients in a client note Friday that '90% of investors seem to believe Apple will get a tariff exemption,' pointing to the exemption Apple received in 2018 during President Trump's first term. CFRA Research analyst Angelo Zino said he now puts the odds of an Apple-specific exemption at 50%, up from 20%. Read the original article on Investopedia Sign in to access your portfolio
