Action-packed ‘Fountain of Youth' has everything — except a soul

When Hollywood finally masters artificial intelligence — assuming the technology hasn't destroyed us all by then — you can expect a lot of results like 'Fountain of Youth,' a movie that's acceptably entertaining and completely soulless. There are actual humans behind this globe-trotting action-adventure, an Apple Original appearing only on Apple TV+, among them director Guy Ritchie ('Snatch,' 'Sherlock Holmes,' 'The Man from U.N.C.L.E.'), screenwriter James Vanderbilt ('Zodiac') and stars John Krasinski and Natalie Portman. 'Fountain of Youth' looks good and moves well; it's nothing if not a professional piece of work. But it's also what you would get if you fed the following prompts into the movie version of ChatGPT: 'National Treasure,' 'The Da Vinci Code,' 'Romancing the Stone,' that Tom Cruise 'Mummy' movie and all five installments of the Indiana Jones franchise.

Hamilton says he has more movies in the pipeline

Lewis Hamilton is planning more movies after working with Brad Pitt on F1 and also documentaries and possibly a TV series with his Dawn Apollo production company. The seven-times Formula One world champion, a co-producer and consultant on the upcoming F1 movie starring Pitt, told reporters at the Monaco Grand Prix there was more to come. "I've gone in very high, I couldn't go any higher for the first movie, but we will produce more movies over coming years," he said. "I've got three concepts I'm writing," said the Ferrari driver, who launched his company in 2022. "I'm going to write with a writer because I've never written a movie before. I've got concepts, ideas I've come up with for movies. "At least two will be animations and one is in a phase of the first part of the script, so it's exciting. "There will be documentaries, maybe a TV series at some stage, but mostly movies. I like the development of movies. That's what I love the most." Hamilton joined his fellow drivers for a special pre-release screening of the Apple Original film, due out next month, in Monaco on Wednesday. He said though he had seen the film many times it had been a stressful and proud moment when the Dawn Apollo logo appeared with other production companies. "All of a sudden I've got all the drivers there and I was sat in the middle, I was nervous. I was like 'everyone is seeing it for the first time', and it was great to look around and see some reactions, particularly from the drivers," said Hamilton. "I care about what the drivers think and I want them to think highly of it."

Hamilton Nervous about Reaction to New F1 Film

MONACO, May 23 (Bernama-PA Media/dpa) -- Lewis Hamilton admits he was nervous about his fellow drivers seeing his Formula 1 movie and has revealed that he is working on more film projects, PA Media/dpa reported. The grid's stars were given an exclusive screening of the action movie, titled F1, on Wednesday at the Grimaldi Forum in Monaco, ahead of this weekend's Monaco Grand Prix. It will see Oscar-winning actor Brad Pitt, 61, play the fictional veteran driver Sonny Hayes, who is returning to the sport after a long absence. bootstrap slideshow "All of a sudden, I've got all the drivers there, I was sat in the middle and I was nervous," Hamilton said. "I was like, 'oh God everyone's seeing it for the first time'. And it was great to look around and see some of the reactions. I really care what the drivers think and I wanted them to think highly of it. "I think the great thing is the sound is great, the image is incredible. It's something that's never been done in Formula 1 before. So it's something I'm really proud of." The Apple Original film, which is being co-produced by seven-time world champion Hamilton, will launch internationally on June 25. The 40-year-old revealed that, having got a taste for directing, he and his film studio Dawn Apollo are working on more upcoming projects. "To think that it's finally here, after all the work that's gone on, from having (score composer) Hans Zimmer – speaking to Hans and having Hans come on board and doing this score, I'm a huge fan of his – so just the whole project was incredible," Hamilton added.

Formula One drivers are blown away by Brad Pitt's F1 movie after special screening in Monaco: 'Honestly insane'

Formula One drivers declared Brad Pitt's new F1 movie a winner that would bring fresh fans to the sport after being given an exclusive pre-release screening at the Monaco Grand Prix. The Apple Original film, with action scenes filmed at race weekends with the sport's cooperation, is due in cinemas internationally on June 25 and in North America on June 27. Formula One is hoping it will be an even bigger hit than the Netflix Drive to Survive docu-series that has helped raise the sport's appeal globally and take it to a new and younger demographic. "Honestly, I enjoyed the whole thing," Williams driver Carlos Sainz, sworn to secrecy on the plot like all those present, told reporters on Thursday. "There were things that really surprised me. "Not talking about the story, but the quality of footage they got. It's insane. Honestly insane. That's for me the best part of all of it. The team have done an outstanding job in putting together a very good Hollywood movie." Haas rookie driver Oliver Bearman, 20, agreed. "I think it really depicts in a great way what we go through, in a bit of a Hollywood way as you would expect, but that makes it really interesting," said the Briton. "I think the goal of the movie is going to be achieved. I think it's going to be a huge hit and it's going to make people want to watch F1, which is really the goal of it." Directed by Joseph Kosinski of Top Gun: Maverick fame, the movie also stars Javier Bardem as the owner of a team on the verge of failure. British actor Damson Idris is hotshot Joshua Pearce alongside ageing redemption-seeking racer Sonny Hayes, played by Pitt, who is 61 in real life. Seven-times world champion Lewis Hamilton, a co-producer, has said the movie will deliver an authentic feel. "The storytelling is really cool and the images are just incredible," said Ferrari's Charles Leclerc, who won his home Monaco race last year. Red Bull boss Christian Horner also gave a glowing verdict. "We are probably the worst possible audience to watch that movie because you're going to look and scrutinise every detail, every gear change, every pit stop, and it was very authentic," said the Briton. Red Bull's reigning four-time world champion Max Verstappen, new father of a baby daughter, was a prominent absentee. "I wanted to spend more private time," he said. 'There was the opportunity to watch it but if we watch it now or in three or four weeks its fine as well.'

Hamilton nervous about reaction to new F1 film

The 40-year-old revealed that, having got a taste for directing, he and his film studio Dawn Apollo are working on more upcoming projects. 'To think that it's finally here, after all the work that's gone on, from having (score composer) Hans Zimmer - speaking to Hans and having Hans come on board and doing this score, I'm a huge fan of his - so just the whole project was incredible,' Hamilton added. 'At the beginning you see all the different logos for the production houses and my one comes up, which I worked on for so long - Dawn Apollo. It comes up like all planetary, that was all my idea. 'I've got three concepts that I'm writing. We will be producing more movies over the coming years. I've got these concepts, these ideas that I've come up with for movies. 'At least two of them will be animations. One of them, we're already in the phase of the first part of the script already. So it's exciting.' F1 bosses hope the film, directed by Joseph Kosinski and co-produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, will help take the sport to new audiences in an even bigger way than Netflix's docu-series 'Drive to Survive' has achieved. British driver Oliver Bearman praised Pitt's driving, saying: 'Honestly he did an impressive job. He was pushing the car, that's for sure. 'I know he was training in the background and I know the guy whose team he was training with and he said he was taking some risks and doing a good job. He did his homework, so it's cool. 'I think the goal of the movie is going to be achieved. It is going to be a huge hit and it is going to make people want to watch F1.' The drivers all played a part in the filming and George Russell is happy with the finished product. 'The way they integrated the drivers and team principals into a Hollywood movie it was like we are real characters in this Hollywood scene, so as an F1 fan you kind of find a bit of comedy in just seeing us popping up here and there with Brad Pitt,' Russell said. On his own part, he added: 'It was about a three-second long performance but sometimes that's enough!'
