Gemini Live's most powerful upgrade could be right around the corner (APK teardown)
Mishaal Rahman / Android Authority TL;DR Gemini Extensions (now called Apps) empower Google's AI agent to work with software and services on your behalf. Google appears to be working to bring Gemini Apps support to Live. Much like we saw with normal Gemini, support for Apps on Gemini Live would likely not land all at once, instead deploying in phases. Google Gemini is pretty darn multi-faceted, just as comfortable answering our questions about world history as it is lending a hand coding a new Android app. But Gemini's talents extend far beyond just being able to tell us stuff, and with the help of Extensions (now Apps), Gemini can reach out to other apps and services and actually get some real work done directly. We may soon have an even more flexible way to take advantage of Gemini Apps, if what we just found in our latest teardown ends up panning out. Authority Insights story on Android Authority. Discover You're reading anstory on Android Authority. Discover Authority Insights for more exclusive reports, app teardowns, leaks, and in-depth tech coverage you won't find anywhere else. An APK teardown helps predict features that may arrive on a service in the future based on work-in-progress code. However, it is possible that such predicted features may not make it to a public release. Like the WIP Live AI Mode we just uncovered, this change came to out attention during analysis of the new beta release of the Google app for Android. Apparently Google's on a bit of a roll when it comes to all things Live, because this build also includes some early references to what sure appear to be Gemini Apps support for Live. AssembleDebug / Android Authority While some devs clearly didn't get the memo about the Extensions → Apps rebranding, it still seems reasonably clear what it is we're looking at here. Much like how we didn't get support for every app, all at once, when Extensions first debuted for normal Gemini, the mention of 'phase one' here sure speaks to us that we should expect a similar, spaced-out release strategy when it comes to Gemini Apps for Live. Right now we don't have any real kind of sense for which apps might be part of that initial wave, versus those set to arrive later on, but perhaps we'll uncover some contenders as we continue to investigate Google's progress along this line. Nothing's going to be certain until we actually see Google deliver this functionality in a publicly facing way, but we have reason to be at least cautiously optimistic that this one is on pace for ultimate deployment, having previously spotted other upcoming changes in this same spot that did in fact prove to further pan out. No captaincy, no problem as Apps gears up for Origin
Kezie Apps knows the privilege of playing for NSW better than most, having pulled on the Sky Blues jersey consistently since 2014. So relinquishing her co-captaincy duties under new coach John Strange has not dampened her enthusiasm to take it to the Maroons on Thursday night in Brisbane. Strange has elevated Apps' 2024 co-captain partner Isabelle Kelly to sole skipper, with five-eighth Tiana Penitani Gray serving as vice-captain. Apps says giving up the armband will not change how she plays or leads the team, even if it does force her to keep some opinions to herself. "Obviously not getting the captain is so fine with me and it doesn't change who I am and how I'm going to act around the group," she told AAP. "The only difference really is I can't talk to the ref on the field." The Wests Tigers back-rower indicated the club relationship between Kelly and Strange made the Sydney Roosters star a natural choice to take on the captaincy for the Origin series opener at Suncorp Stadium. "He's worked with (Isabelle) before and she's a great leader, he had a chat with me about it and I completely understand," Apps said. "Just to make this team was something I was super grateful for." Both of NSW's starting props from 2024, Millie Elliott and Caitlan Johnston-Green, are expecting babies this year but Apps says the Sky Blues' forward depth is more than strong enough to cope. "There were so many girls on the verge of making that side last year who could have done the job," she said. "A lot more girls are going to be getting pregnant as years go on so we're lucky in NSW that we've got so much depth within our competition." Ellie Johnston is one who has benefited from the pregnancy outs and Apps said Johnston would make a big impact on debut. "It just opens up opportunities for other girls such as Ellie who has been on that fringe and been so close, but hasn't quite gotten there," she said. "It gives the opportunity for her to make her debut and to play in the middle, so I'm excited for her." The NSW mainstay enters the Origin series with her club future secure after signing a league-longest four-year contract extension with Wests Tigers until the end of 2029.

Fantastic four more as Apps inks huge NRLW extension
Wests Tigers captain Kezie Apps officially holds the NRLW's longest contract after inking a four-year extension that is likely to see her through to retirement. While others have previously inked four-year deals, Apps is the only player who holds a contract until the end of 2029, by which time she will be 38. The extension comes after an injury-hampered 2024 for Apps, who missed the final six games of the regular season and watched as the Tigers finished last on the ladder. The 2016 Dally M Medallist and former NSW captain will be crucial to the side recovering this season under third-year coach Brett Kimmorley. "This club has felt like home from the moment I arrived," Apps said."I'm proud to re-sign and be part of something that's building so strongly."We have a great group of girls, a passionate fan base, and a vision I truly believe in."I'm excited for what's ahead and honoured to keep wearing the Wests Tigers jersey." Apps' new deal comes as the Tigers prepare to reconfigure after the losses of key players Botille Vette-Welsh, Navjada George and Pauline Piliae-Rasabale in the off-season. Parramatta's Jade Fonua, North Queensland half Jetaya Faifua and former New Zealand rugby union international Patricia Maliepo headline the new inclusions. Apps' re-signing comes only days out from the State of Origin opener in Brisbane, where NSW will look to bounce back from a disappointing 2-1 series loss. Apps has relinquished the co-captaincy for a fresh era under new coach John Strange, with Isabelle Kelly taking the leadership role full-time for the second annual three-match series.

This Indian startup wants to talk about death—And you should listen
Representative image In India, we avoid talking about death like the plague—until it strikes. Then, we're left with chaos. Property stuck in probate, bank accounts frozen, families torn apart. The numbers are staggering: over Rs 2 lakh crore in unclaimed assets lie untouched in banks, insurance accounts, and financial institutions. And here's the kicker—this isn't billionaire money. This is middle-class money. Yours, mine, ours. That's the gap Yellow, a Bengaluru-based startup, is stepping into with startling clarity and compassion. Their goal? To change how we plan for death by making it about how we live. A wake-up call for the middle class Yellow was founded in September 2021 by Niranjan Vemulkar and Nikhil Varghese. The idea was born out of the chaos of Covid, when loss was everywhere, and planning seemed impossible—but also essential. Nikhil, with close to two decades of experience in estate planning for the ultra-wealthy at firms like PwC, EY, and 360One Wealth, saw something others didn't: 'The rich always have someone to guide them. The middle class? They're left figuring it out in the middle of a crisis.' Niranjan and Nikhil teamed up to turn that insight into action. Today, Yellow is India's only estate planning platform supported by the Government of India SAGE Fund (an initiative by MoSJE to support startups building high-quality products for seniors), and a member of the 2024 cohort of the Google for Startups Accelerator (Apps). Yellow's innovative solution, available on mobile app and web, allows any Indian to create their own high-quality Will from the comfort of their own home without the need for expensive lawyers. Better yet, one's Will can be updated easily over time, ensuring that their family has the most up-to-date and relevant information if the need arises. And the need? It's real. Over 90% of Indians die without a Will. 'Our senior citizens are particularly at-risk, because, for the elderly spouse left behind, the challenges of navigating the claims and transfer process for the deceased person's assets can be extremely difficult, expensive, and lengthy. We all know someone caught in a never-ending family dispute.' says Niranjan. But why does it happen so often? Because people don't lay out their wishes clearly. Because they believe having a nominee is enough. But it's not. 'I lost my father-in-law suddenly last month. It was a wake-up call. We were left running from bank to bank, trying to close or transfer accounts, handle property, and figure out next steps. That's when I realized—life is so ephemeral, and a Will isn't optional. It's imperative. Naming a nominee isn't enough.' - Yellow client Why a nominee is not a beneficiary One of Yellow's biggest public education pushes is correcting a dangerous misconception: a nominee is not the legal heir. A nominee is merely a custodian of an asset. The Will is what determines who the legal heirs are, who receives which assets, even who the legal guardians of one's minor children should be. By making a Will you are taking control of these key decisions. Without a Will, all these decisions are taken for you by the Indian personal succession laws - which have different treatments by religion and even gender.. That's where Yellow steps in, with its straightforward and legally sound Will-making platform that lets you create one in under 15 minutes, starting at just Rs 1,499. But more than the tech, it's the thoughtfulness behind the product that people talk about: 'Yellow is the only company that offers such a complete, fulfilling journey—from life to legacy and beyond,' 'I trust Yellow implicitly,' shares another. 'I'm honestly thrilled I found them when I did.' 'A Will isn't really static,' says another client. 'Life's situations change all the time, and Yellow, like a trusted friend, is always there to update my Will and ensure it reflects my most recent wishes.' Planning for life, not death Yellow's philosophy is simple but radical: estate planning isn't about death. It's about care. It's about responsibility. It's about being kind to the people we leave behind. Yellow's services now include Yellow SMART (SMooth Asset Recovery and Transfer), a single window solution for complete on-ground execution of all post-demise tasks from closing or transferring accounts and investments, claiming life insurance, to managing property handovers. It's the kind of help that's often needed most—when you're least prepared to ask for it. In a country with over a billion people, that is layered with complex religions, family dynamics, and long-standing superstitions around death, Yellow has managed something extraordinary: they've made planning for the inevitable feel empowering. They've made it feel human. Stay informed with the latest business news, updates on bank holidays and public holidays . Master Value & Valuation with ET! Learn to invest smartly & decode financials.
