Lady Gaga Blocked From An All-Time Record By Music's Hottest Newcomer

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars scored one of the biggest global hits in recent memory with "Die With a Smile," and they have the chart records to prove it. The tune lived at No. 1 on both of Billboard's worldwide rankings for months, but all successful runs must come to an end eventually. The Grammy-winning collaboration recently stepped aside from the throne on the Billboard Global 200, and it has also now moved on from the top of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. as well. It looked for a while like the cut might have been on its way to making history and breaking an all-time record, but its impressive winning streak has finally come to an end—at least for now. "Die With a Smile" earned 17 stays atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., including the past six frames in a row. This week, it slips to No. 2, making way for a newcomer who has just scored the biggest hit around the world. "Ordinary" by Alex Warren steps up to the summit on this ranking for the first time. The track reached No. 1 on the Billboard Global 200 several weeks ago but had been kept from the top spot on the list that excludes all streaming and sales activity from America… until now. The two tunes swap spaces, and Gaga and Mars may not be able to recover. "Die With a Smile" ranks as the track with the second-most weeks at No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. It is just two frames away from tying the all-time record — which Mars also claims with another musician. His duet with Blackpink singer Rosé, "Apt.," collected a total of 19 stays in the penthouse and was in direct competition with "Die With a Smile" for a long stretch of that time. While it's possible that "Die With a Smile" could return to the top, "Ordinary" has some real momentum behind it. Global audiences appear to still be waking up to the track, and it could lead for quite some time. That said, the throwback-sounding duet likely won't disappear anytime soon. In fact, it could remain inside the top 10 for several more months, as it has already been living in that region since last fall. This is not the first time that "Die With a Smile" has been dethroned on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. The tune first reached No. 1 in early September 2024. It reigned for two months before "Apt." replaced it. Throughout 2025, those two tracks have traded positions multiple times.

Lady Gaga May Be Just Days Away From Making History

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars scored the hit of a lifetime with 'Die With a Smile' — and that's saying a lot, considering both musicians have already produced dozens of smashes individually. The throwback-sounding duet, released in August 2024, became an instant hit out of the gate. Months later, the track is not only still performing well — it's leading the charge on several Billboard charts. The song still stands out as the biggest in the world, and as it holds on once more, it comes within striking distance of an all-time record. The Gaga/Mars collaboration has now dominated Billboard's ranking of the most-consumed songs throughout the world for 18 nonconsecutive weeks. That feat makes it the second-longest-running No. 1 in the history of the Billboard Global 200, and the cut may soon break the previously-set record. If 'Die With a Smile' can hold on for just one more frame, it will match 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' by Mariah Carey for the most weeks spent at No. 1. That holiday smash has racked up a total of 19 stays at the summit, with those stints spread out across more than half a decade. The tune returns to the peak position at the end of each year and continues adding to its growing total. The fact that Gaga and Mars have been able to stitch together their 18 weeks at No. 1 in one promotional run — if not in a single streak — speaks to the track's incredible global popularity. 'Die With a Smile' is also in charge of the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., though it still has a way to go before matching the all-time record on that ranking. With 15 frames spent atop the tally, it passes the 14 that 'All I Want for Christmas Is You' managed. However, that tune didn't hold the top showing. That honor belongs to 'Apt.,' a collaboration between Blackpink singer Rosé and, once again, Mars. The track led the list — which excludes sales and streaming data from America and reflects what the rest of the world is consuming — for 19 frames. The two tracks came out around the same time and, for a while, traded the No. 1 spot. If 'Die With a Smile' can remain at the top for another month, it could match 'Apt.' That's a tall order for a tune that has already been out for so many months and has now ruled for 15 weeks, but certainly not impossible.

Lady Gaga Matches Mariah Carey's Record As 'Die With A Smile' Holds At No. 1

Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars's 'Die With a Smile' ties Mariah Carey for the second-longest No. 1 reign ... More on the Billboard Global Excl. (Photo byfor Coachella) Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars just keep winning with what has turned out to be a career-defining single. Their global smash "Die With a Smile" remains at No. 1 on both the Billboard Global 200 and Billboard Global Excl. U.S. rankings this week, and this frame brings the title to another important milestone. "Die With a Smile" continues its impressive run atop the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., racking up a fourteenth nonconsecutive week at No. 1. With this latest stint, the tune now ties for the second-longest reign in the chart's history. By leading once again, "Die With a Smile" matches the 14-week record previously set by Mariah Carey's holiday favorite "All I Want for Christmas Is You." That track has become a seasonal staple, reclaiming its spot atop the list year after year, but Gaga and Mars's collaboration has managed the feat without the benefit of an annual boost. Gaga and Mars still trail behind another global powerhouse. Blackpink singer Rosé – and Mars' earlier smash "Apt." – maintains the all-time record on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. with an astounding 19 weeks at No. 1. That tune, released in 2024, shattered expectations with its lengthy run at the top — and while "Die With a Smile" is quickly climbing the ranks of the most successful songs ever on this roster, it still has some ground to make up if it wants to catch up. At this pace, "Die With a Smile" is almost certain to hold onto the No. 1 spot next week. If it does, the cut will snag a fifteenth nonconsecutive frame in charge on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S., pulling ahead of Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" and claiming sole possession of second place on the all-time list. Carey's festive favorite isn't finished yet, though. When the 2025 holiday season arrives, "All I Want for Christmas Is You" is likely to surge once again — as it does every year — and could very well reclaim the throne. If history repeats itself, the classic could add to its total by the end of 2025 and into early 2026. Even if "Die With a Smile" can fend off any challengers in the coming weeks, it still faces a daunting challenge to tie the all-time leader. The cut would need roughly a month longer at No. 1 on the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. to match the 19-week reign set by "Apt.," a goal that feels attainable…but far from guaranteed. Gaga and Mars are also still in charge of the Billboard Global 200 as well. "Die With a Smile" earns its eighteenth week at No. 1 on the worldwide ranking, pushing it just one frame away from matching the all-time record. Carey's "All I Want for Christmas Is You" holds the benchmark, with 19 nonconsecutive weeks spent atop the tally. That makes next week crucial. If "Die With a Smile" can cling to its crown a little longer, it will tie with Carey for the most time spent at No. 1 on the ranking.

Will Rosé Beat Lady Gaga And Make History?

Rosé's "Apt" holds steady at No. 2 on Billboard's Adult Pop Airplay chart, with a real chance to ... More soon make history as the first K-pop act to top the ranking. NEW YORK, NEW YORK - OCTOBER 14: Rosé aka Roseanne Park MBE is seen in Midtown on October 14, 2024 in New York City. (Photo by TheStewartofNY/GC Images) Rosé has been setting Billboard records left and right throughout the past several months, and it doesn't look like she's finished just yet. The Blackpink singer's collaboration with Bruno Mars, "Apt.," first became a massive streaming and sales win upon its release — and even months after it debuted, the smash is still performing exceptionally well on the airwaves in America. "Apt." stands a real chance at helping Rosé make even more history, if it can rise just one more spot. This week, "Apt." holds at No. 2 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. That tally, for those unfamiliar, tracks the biggest hits across U.S. pop radio stations that skew toward a more mature sound, often called "adult pop." The track's current placement is still its all-time peak, but it's knocking on the door of even greater success. For now, the Adult Pop Airplay chart is still ruled by Lady Gaga and Mars' "Die With a Smile," which has proved to be a true juggernaut. The pair's hit has now spent 35 weeks on the tally and has controlled the No. 1 spot for eight of them. That said, "Die With a Smile" is no longer brand new, and all hits eventually start to slow down. "Apt.," however, has only spent 24 frames on the Adult Pop Airplay list so far. With perhaps more momentum and plenty of life left in it, Rosé could soon capitalize if Mars and Gaga's grip weakens. It might not happen next week — or even the next few frames — but "Apt." has a genuine shot at reaching No. 1 on the Adult Pop Airplay chart. If it does, Rosé will make history once again, becoming the first K-pop artist to lead this specific radio ranking. K-pop acts hitting No. 1 on Billboard's radio tallies remains an incredibly rare feat. Despite the genre's worldwide popularity, U.S. radio has traditionally been tougher to crack. Rosé has done it before on another tally, and she's hoping to add another honor to her growing collection. Even if "Apt." never climbs higher, it's already the most successful cut by a K-pop musician in Adult Pop Airplay history. Weeks ago, Rosé and Mars's collaboration overtook BTS and Coldplay's "My Universe," which peaked at No. 8, to claim the title of the highest-charting K-pop hit on this roster. "Apt." has now spent more time on the Adult Pop Airplay chart than "My Universe," BTS's "Dynamite," as well as Fifty Fifty's "Cupid," each of which stuck around for just 20 frames. Across Billboard's three pop radio charts, "Apt." also claims the record as the highest-rising K-pop song. It's tied for that honor on the Adult Contemporary roster, where it matched the No. 16 peak set by both "Dynamite" and "My Universe." On the Pop Airplay chart — perhaps the most competitive radio tally Billboard publishes — "Apt." stands alone as the only song by a K-pop act to ever reach No. 1.
