CCSD police have seized guns, ammunition, and drugs

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Clark County school police have peeled back the curtain on the guns officers have found on campuses this school year. Six months into the new school year, officers with the Clark County School District Police Department have seized 24 guns. Twelve of them belonged to students. Through a public records request, 8 News Now obtained several photos and police reports starting from August 2024 on the guns CCSDPD seized. According to a police report dated Sept. 17, officers arrived at Del Sol Academy to find a student and staff member in a struggle. An assistant principal had wrapped his arms around the student and took him to the ground. Police said the student had a handgun near his pants leg and tried reaching for it. On Oct. 2, the principal at Swainston Middle School found a loaded gun in a student's backpack, according to a police report. A parent had called the school after that student showed another child the gun. A hard lockdown was placed at Ullom Elementary School on Dec. 20 after a child was caught on surveillance video with a brown handgun, according to police, but it was an air gun. Police visited the child's home and they said officers found an unsecured AR-15, which was confiscated. According to a police report, officers said the AR-15 'lacked essential safety mechanisms that could mitigate risks associated with firearm ownership.' At Canyon Springs High School last month, police confiscated a loaded gun that had one round in the chamber. CCSDPD arrested Ar'Voni Jett on Jan 14. Police found more rounds inside Jett's vehicle, according to his arrest report. Jett told officers he got out of his car and approached a few teens over a stolen chain. A witness contacted a campus security monitor after seeing Jett pulling at the front of his pants like he had a weapon, according to police. When Jett tried getting back inside his car, he locked himself out. Jett was reportedly high on marijuana. The Clark County School District's policy states any student caught with a gun on campus is immediately expelled. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
