Iraq offers assistance to UNRWA
Baghdad ( – The Iraqi Prime Minister, Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani, reaffirmed on Sunday Iraq's willingness to provide all forms of assistance to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). Al-Sudani's remarks took place during his meeting with the UNRWA's Commissioner-General, Philippe Lazzarini, in the Iraqi capital, Baghdad, according to a statement released by the Prime Minister's Office (PMO). The meeting addressed the UNRWA's attempts to carry out its mandate and provide essential services despite the hurdles and direct threats it encounters from the Israeli troops. The two sides emphasized the significance of putting an end to Israel's ongoing aggression, speeding up the entry of humanitarian supplies to the people in the Gaza Strip, and opening the border crossings. Iraq's support for UNRWA is shown in the measures it took at the Arab Summit and the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit, held recently in Baghdad, including its proposal to establish a fund for Gaza reconstruction.

A statement by the Prime Minister's media office, received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA), stated that: Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Sunday, with the Commissioner-General of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA), Mr. Philippe Lazzarini. The meeting discussed the UNRWA's efforts in carrying out its mandate and providing essential services amid the challenges and direct attacks it faces from the occupying forces. The discussion also underscored the importance of ending the ongoing aggression, expediting the delivery of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza, and opening the crossings. Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq's readiness to provide all forms of support to the agency, as reflected in the initiatives Iraq proposed during the Arab Summit and the Arab Economic and Social Development Summit held yesterday in Baghdad—including the proposal to establish a fund for the reconstruction of Gaza.

Baghdad, May 18 (UNI) Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Shia' al-Sudani on Saturday called for Arab economic integration as a means to promote the development of Arab countries. Al-Sudani made the remarks during the opening session of the fifth Arab Economic and Social Development Summit held in Baghdad. The prime minister said in his speech that "the summit serves as a strategic platform to solidify Arab partnerships, activate development funds and mechanisms, create new opportunities for women and youth, and ensure the welfare of children," according to a statement from his media office. Al-Sudani proposed the establishment of a joint Arab mechanism to evaluate development performance based on economic and social development indicators, it said. "There is no security without development, and no development without genuine Arab economic integration," al-Sudani said, expressing his hope that the summit will mark "a turning point" in the trajectory of Arab development.
