Shura Chairman Congratulates Shura Council Secretary-General on Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award

Manama: Ali bin Saleh Al Saleh, Chairman of the Shura Council, congratulated Kareema Mohammed Al Abbasi, Secretary-General of the Shura Council, on receiving the Arab Parliamentary Excellence Award in the category of 'Secretary-General of Parliament' by the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union. The award was presented during the participation of the Parliamentary Division's delegation in the 38th Conference of the Union, held in Algeria. According to Bahrain News Agency, the chairman emphasised that this award is a new addition to the achievements and successes of Bahraini women and reflects the continuous support they receive from His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa; His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, the Crown Prince and Prime Minister; and Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, Consort of His Majesty the King and President of the Supreme Council for Women (SCW). He commended the dedication and contributions of the Secretary-General to advancing the work of the Shura Council's General Secretariat, and her efforts to strengthen the role of its members as part of Team Bahrain in supporting the Council's work. The Chairman expressed pride in the presence of Bahraini women at national, regional, and international levels, and in their notable achievements that have earned recognition in international forums.

Arab Parliaments Endorse Bahrain Declaration Issued at 33rd Arab Summit

Algiers: Arab parliaments expressed their full support for the 'Bahrain Declaration' issued at the 33rd Arab Summit hosted by the Kingdom of Bahrain. This endorsement was officially reflected in the final statement of the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union Conference, held in Algeria. According to Bahrain News Agency, the parliaments commended Bahrain's efforts in supporting initiatives aimed at ending the war in Gaza, affirming its solidarity with the Palestinian people, safeguarding their legitimate rights and interests, delivering humanitarian aid, and advancing efforts toward a just and lasting peace in the region. Ahmed Abdulwahid Qarata, Second Deputy Speaker of the Council of Representatives and Head of Bahrain's parliamentary delegation, said at the conclusion of the conference and its associated meetings that the unified Arab recognition of Bahrain's position is a testament to the Kingdom's ongoing commitment, guided by the vision of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, to supporting Arab causes and promoting peace, tolerance, and stability throughout the region. He noted that Bahrain's parliamentary delegation contributed constructively during the conference sessions and committee meetings, presenting in-depth proposals to enhance the Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union's financial stability and strengthen its regional and international influence. The delegation also submitted 11 recommendations regarding proposed amendments to the Union's Charter. Qarata affirmed that Bahrain's legislative authority remains committed to working alongside Arab parliaments to develop a forward-looking framework that strengthens joint parliamentary action. The conference approved most of its agenda items, including the President's and Secretary-General's reports, the 2024 final accounts, and the proposed work programme and budget for 2025. The closing statement and associated resolutions were also adopted, reflecting a shared aspiration to promote stability and shape a better future for the Arab world. The Palestinian cause was reaffirmed as a central priority.

AIPU hails Qatar's efforts insupport to Palestine cause

QNA Algiers The final communique of the 38th Arab Inter-Parliamentary Union (AIPU) conference has commended the State of Qatar's key efforts backing the Palestinian cause, primarily its endeavours for a sustained relief aid entry into the Gaza Strip. The two-day event in Algiers brought together speakers of Arab legislatures to address the AIPU's role amid the current regional and global transformations. Shura Council Speaker HE Hassan bin Abdullah Al Ghanim chaired the Qatari delegation to the conference. The closing communique hailed Qatar's initiatives, in coordination with international and regional organisations, streamlining the provision of essential food, medical and relief supplies to alleviate the suffering of civilians amid the ongoing catastrophic conditions in the conferees also praised the ongoing efforts of the State of Qatar and the Arab Republic of Egypt to de-escalate the situation in Gaza, reach a permanent ceasefire agreement, ensure the entry of humanitarian aid, redeploy Israeli forces, exchange prisoners, return displaced persons, and facilitate the treatment of those wounded. Furthermore, the statement appreciated Qatar's written memorandum to the International Court of Justice for an advisory opinion on the Israeli occupation's obligations regarding the presence and activities of the United Nations, other international organisations, and third states. It stressed the importance of this memorandum in supporting relief and humanitarian organisations and ensuring a decent living for the Palestinian people. The conferees emphasised the centrality of the Palestinian cause and the importance of unifying Arab efforts to confront regional and international challenges. Meanwhile, the event hailed the Grand National Assembly of Turkiye's initiative to establish a Parliamentary Group in Solidarity with Palestine in a bid to unify international parliamentary efforts to defend the Palestinian cause and support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, including ending the occupation, rejecting settler expansion, preserving the religious character of Jerusalem and maintaining the Palestinian cause on the agenda of international parliamentary forums. It reiterated AIPU's categorical rejection of all Israeli schemes to displace Palestinians and alter the demographic character of the occupied territories, especially Jerusalem, emphasising the rejection of imposing a fait accompli or any form of forced displacement as a crime against humanity. The conference called for continued political support to mobilize international support for the Palestinian people and the preservation of their rights, stressing that a just and comprehensive peace can only be achieved through the withdrawal of the occupation from all occupied Arab territories to the borders of June 4, 1967, and through the empowerment of the Palestinian people to establish their independent state with Jerusalem as its capital.
