Issa wins gold as fifth edition of Arab Taekwondo Cup ends on successful note
The fifth edition of the Arab Taekwondo Cup concluded on Friday at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah. The event was held under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed bin Hamad Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. More than 1,500 male and female athletes participated in the championship, which was hosted by the Fujairah Martial Arts Club under the supervision of the Arab Taekwondo Federation and in cooperation with the UAE Taekwondo Federation. UAE national team player and Fujairah Martial Arts Club member, Mazoon Issa, won the first gold medal for the UAE in the under-33kg weight category. The silver medal went to Egyptian player Malika Abdel Aziz from Al-Giza Club, while the bronze medals were awarded to Bana Al-Qaisi of Jordan and Lamar Al-Ruwaili of Saudi Arabia. In the under-37kg weight category, Yumna Yasser from Al Sharjah Club claimed the gold medal, while the silver went to Jordan's Alma Al Omari from Al Quwa Club. The bronze medals were awarded to Alaa Matarji from Fujairah Martial Arts Club and Maria Al Ansari from Al-Ittihad Club. The organizing committee for both the fifth Arab Taekwondo Cup used the latest refereeing technologies and point-scoring systems. Nader Abu Shawish, Director of Fujairah Martial Arts Club, explained that this advancement resulted from collaboration with a company specialising for manufacturing chest and head protectors with sensors. He said, "This collaboration is the first of its kind in the Arab world, using the modern protectors in the G2-rated Fujairah International Championship." Shawish added, "This cooperation will increase excitement through the new method of point recording and scoring, which is the latest technology globally. It was first tried at the recent Paris Olympics. Through this partnership, players and coaches will get to experience this technology up close, marking a new step forward for Fujairah's Taekwondo Championship." The 12th Fujairah International Championship will kick off on Sunday, running until February 13, featuring the largest participation ever, with 2,629 male and female athletes from all over the world.

Crown Prince of Fujairah attends fifth edition of the Arab Taekwondo Cup
Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended the competitions at fifth edition of the Arab Taekwondo Cup Championship being held at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah. Sheikh Mohammed crowned the Olympic champions who won medals at the Paris Games and secured gold in the Arab Cup. Those who were honoured included Tunisia's Firas Katoussi, who won gold medal in the men's -80kg at the Paris 2024 Olympics, and Jordan's Zaid Karim. Last year, Karim won a silver medal after putting up a stirring effort in the Olympic -68kg taekwondo final against Uzbekistan's defending champion and number one seed Ulugbek Rashitov. The Crown Prince of Fujairah emphasized Emirates' leading global position in hosting and organizing sports tournaments, highlighting the support and guidance of His Highness Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, in advancing and enhancing the competitiveness of the sports sector to align with the UAE's vision in this field. He praised the high technical and administrative standards of the championship and its objectives, which attract athletes from across the Arab world to compete in Fujairah and achieve outstanding results that contribute to the development of the sports sector at the national, regional, and international levels. The Crown Prince of Fujairah also honored the heads of Arab federations, led by Idriss Hilali, Executive Board Member of the International Taekwondo Federation and President of the Arab Taekwondo Federation, along with several distinguished guests of the championship. More than 1,534 athletes from different Arab countries are taking part in fifth edition of the Arab Cup. Dr. Chungwon Choue, President of the International Taekwondo Federation, Dr Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation, Nader Abu Shawish, Director of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, and presidents of other Arab federations also attended the championship. He highlighted that these tournaments provided extensive competitive opportunities for athletes, allowing them to face international and Olympic-level opponents, especially benefiting the UAE national team players. Abu Shawish stated: "These championships have successfully identified outstanding talents, including Ahmed Khamis from the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, who won the first Arab gold medal at the Wuxi 2024 World Taekwondo Grand Slam Youth League held in China. Additionally, other UAE players have secured international medals, reflecting the achievement of key objectives." Following the conclusion of the Arab Cup, the Fujairah Martial Arts Club will host the 12th edition of the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship starting on February 9 and will conclude on February 13. This year's edition will see its largest participation ever, with 2,628 male and female athletes in the fray. He added: "The Fujairah Martial Arts Club has organized four previous editions of the Arab Cup, and the current one is the fifth, while the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship will be in its 12th edition. 'In all these tournaments, international athletes have participated, bringing immense technical benefits. These events have significantly expanded the culture of practicing taekwondo and paved the way for athletes to compete in major international tournaments as their skills developed." Abu Shawish concluded by announcing that Fujairah will host the 2025 World Juniors Taekwondo Championships in May, marking a major achievement that underscores sustainability in sports and supports the Taekwondo Federation's plans for the sport's growth. Meanwhile, the organizing committee of the Arab and Fujairah Open Taekwondo Championships has announced the implementation of the latest technologies in refereeing and scoring by collaborating with KPNP. This marks the first time these advanced protective gear are used in the Arab world and in Fujairah International Championship. This collaboration is expected to enhance excitement in the competitions by introducing a cutting-edge scoring system, considered the most advanced globally. The technology was previously tested at the Paris Olympics.

Arab Taekwondo Cup, Fujairah Taekwondo Championship attract huge number of athletes
With top athletes in the fray, the much-anticipated fifth edition of the Arab Taekwondo Cup will kick off at the Zayed Sports Complex on Wednesday. The event will take place under the patronage of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Crown Prince of Fujairah. Arab Taekwondo Cup serves as a prelude to the 12th edition of the Fujairah International Taekwondo Championship, classified as a G2 event, which will commence on February 9. A total of 4,164 male and female athletes from various countries worldwide are set to participate in both tournaments. Earlier, during a press conference held at the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, the organizing committee revealed the tournament details. Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, President of the UAE Taekwondo Federation and Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Idriss Al Hilali, President of the Arab Taekwondo Federation from Morocco, Nader Abu Shawish, Director of the Fujairah Martial Arts Club, and Engineer Ali Qassem, Director of the Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation, the main sponsor of both championships. The Arab Taekwondo Cup features 1,535 athletes, while the Fujairah International Championship will see the participation of 2,629 athletes from around the world in highly competitive bouts aimed at securing podium finishes. Dr. Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, Chairman of the Organizing Committee, welcomed the participants and emphasized that the event aligns with the directives of His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Mohammed Al Sharqi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Fujairah, to host global sporting events. He highlighted the significant role these tournaments play in enhancing sports and tourism activities in the emirate. He also noted that this edition sets new records with an increased number of participants compared to previous years, adding that the UAE national team will compete with 60 male and female athletes. Fifth edition of the Arab Cup 2025 makes perfect start in Fujairah
Gulf Today, Staff Reporter Thrilling bouts and fierce clashes took over the mats as the fifth edition of the prestigious Arab Cup 2025 kicked off at the Zayed Sports Complex in Fujairah on Wednesday. The three-day Arab Cup (G1 category) attracted the participation of 1,535 athletes and will conclude on Friday. Sheikh Hamad Bin Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi and Sheikh Rashid Bin Mohammed Bin Hamad Al Sharqi, sons of the Crown Prince of Fujairah, attended the event and crowned the winners in the women's categories: under 57 kg, under 62kg, and over 73kg. They praised the organising committee and wished them success in achieving its goals. The competitions were also attended by Idris Al Hilali, President of the Arab Taekwondo Federation, Dr Ahmed Hamdan Al Zeyoudi, chairman of the Arab Cup organising committee, and Nader Abu Shawish, Director of Fujairah Martial Arts Club. Organised by Fujairah Martial Arts Club, the opening day of the competitions was a whirlwind of excitement, with high-stakes bouts often decided in the final seconds of the decisive round. In the men's under 54kg category, the competition was intense, but it was Jaafar Al Dawood from Jordan who clinched the gold, with Nabras Al Taqi from Oman taking the silver. The bronze medals were awarded to Al Mu'taz Billah Asim of Egypt and Isa Al-Musharaf from Saudi Arabia. The under 58kg category saw Mahmoud Al Silawi from Jordan dominating the competition. Osama Hussein of Egypt bagged silver. Mohamed Seif Al Din from Egypt and Nour Al-Din Triki settled for bronze. In the under 63kg category, Mahmoud Al Traira from Jordan proved to be a fierce competitor, with his compatriot Zaid Mustafa securing a second place. Saudi Arabia's Mohamed Ghali and Palestine's Omar Al-Hantouli rounded out the remaining podium spots. The action didn't slow down in the under 68 kg division. Omar Fathi from Egypt took home the gold, while Tunisia's Jihad Al Mathlouthi gave a strong performance to claim silver. Hamza Al Nashash from Jordan and Iyad Isouni from Tunisia shared bronze medals. In the under 74kg division, Jordan's Zaid Mustafa proved his strength to take gold, while Egypt's Fathi Yasser claimed silver. Moving on to the under 80kg category, Tunisia's Firas Qatousi delivered an outstanding performance to claim victory. Alongside him, Mohamed Al-Darabeh of Jordan, Haitham Rzaouti from Morocco, and Laith Ben Husseini of Tunisia made their mark in this highly competitive weight class. In the under 87kg division, Egypt's Ahmed Al-Rawi stood out, while Jordan's Saleh Al Sharbati settled for silver while Saudi Arabia's Mabrouk Al Mabrouk and Moataz Efaoui from Tunisia ended with bronze medals. The over 87kg category featured some of the best fighters in the tournament, with Abdullah Essam of Egypt bagging gold. Zakaria Khuyar from Morocco took silver. Mohamed Al-Salem from Saudi Arabia and Abdulmohsen Zakaria from Kuwait got bronze. In the women's under 46kg category, Morocco's Farah Tawazani impressed with her precision and technique, claiming the gold. Lamia Saiji from Tunisia clinched silver. Noor Al Dardouk from Jordan's and Rahma Abdulmeneem from Saudi Arabia took bronze medals. In the under 49kg division, Aisha Al Zoghbi of Tunisia secured the gold, with Egypt's Habiba Mustafa from Smouha club taking the silver. Morocco's Nuzha Al Asal and Lebanon's Dana Al-Andari also earned their places on the podium. The under 53kg category bout saw Saudi Arabia's Dunia Abu Talib dominate the clash to take gold. Egypt's Janna Khattab settling for silver. Palestine's Yaqeen Faraj and Morocco's Mariam Ainmas got bronze medals. In the under 57kg, Tunisia's Shaimaa Tawami demonstrated exceptional skill to take top spot on the podium. Morocco's Kholal Mirami claimed silver. Malak Yaqub from Egypt and her compatriot Shahd Sami shared bronze. Wafa Meshqouni from Tunisia took the under 62kg gold, while Saudi Arabia's Nisreen Ayali settled for silver. In the under 67kg category, Egypt's Aya Shehata showed incredible control and agility to bag gold, while Jordan's Razan Al Khasawneh claimed silver. Morocco's Wafa Al-Atari and Lamar Tarek took bronze medals. The under 73kg category was no less exciting. Jordan's Rama Abu Rab claimed the gold, followed by Malak Hashem from Egypt. Finally, in the over 73kg category, Morocco's Khadijah Al-Madarar emerged victorious.
