Residents asked to close doors, windows after bear sighting in Aurora neighborhood
DENVER (KDVR) — A bear was spotted in backyards near the 5800 block of South Genoa Court in Aurora on Saturday.
The Arapahoe County Sheriff's Office, in a Facebook post Saturday evening, advised residents to 'stay alert and take precautions,' by removing pet food, bird feeders and trash from outside.

Residents in the area are also asked to keep their doors and windows closed and locked.
The sheriff's office advised the public to 'never approach or feed a bear.'
Colorado Parks & Wildlife provides a number of tips on how to safely live with bears, including how to avoid attracting bears to a home, what to do if a person crosses paths with a bear and how to protect pets from bears.
How to avoid attracting bears to your home, according to CPW:
Never leave trash or recyclables out overnight
Avoid placing meat or fruit scraps onto mulch or compost piles, if composting
Remove birdfeeders from April to November, when bears are most active
What to do if you cross paths with a bear, according to CPW:
Never approach bears or offer food
Stand still, say calm and let the bear identify you and leave
Talk in a normal tone of voice
Never run or climb a tree
Be sure the bar has an opening to leave the area
Wave your arms slowly overhead and talk calmly, if the bear doesn't leave
Maintain eye contact and slowly back away until the bear is out of sight
How to protect pets from bears, according to CPW:
Keep dogs leashed
Always supervise pets when outside at home, especially at dawn or dusk
Secure a pet in a fully enclosed kennel, if it must be kept outside
Don't feed pets outside or leave pet food outside
