North Lanarkshire Archives officially recognised with national award

The Archive Service Accreditation Panel has confirmed that North Lanarkshire Archives have met the UK standard for managing and sharing historical records. North Lanarkshire Archives has been officially recognised with a national award. ‌ The Archive Service Accreditation Panel has confirmed that North Lanarkshire Archives have met the UK standard for managing and sharing historical records. ‌ The archives in North Lanarkshire hold documents from as far back as the 1500s right up to today. ‌ These records show how the area changed over time from farming land to a major centre for manufacturing and heavy industry, and now into the modern post-industrial era. Thanks to funding from the Archives Revealed programme, the team is currently working on organising and promoting their collection about Cumbernauld New Town. ‌ Heather Liddle, who manages Active and Creative Communities at North Lanarkshire Council, said: 'We're thrilled the panel has recognised the great work our team does and how well we work with our partners. 'The team has worked really hard to keep improving and meet the high standards needed for this award.' Councillor Geraldine Woods, Convener of Communities, added: 'This is a fantastic achievement and a real testament to the dedication and professionalism of everyone involved in our archives service. ‌ 'Their commitment to preserving and sharing our local history is something we can all be proud of. Congratulations to the whole team on this well-deserved recognition.' This award means the service is well-run, open to the public, and able to adapt to change. The Archive Service Accreditation is supported by several UK organisations, including National Records of Scotland (NRS), The National Archives, the Scottish Council on Archives, and the Welsh Government. *Don't miss the latest headlines from around Lanarkshire.
