Court officials confirmed yesterday the process of ensuring the sentence imposed on the former TOWIE star is carried out began on Monday. Well-placed sources also said he had appointed a new legal team as the details of the resocialization programme are ironed out. Civil servants employed by Spain's Interior Ministry are expected to contact Argent's lawyer in the next few days to start discussions on where and when the 37-year-old will undertake his rehabilitation. Argent agreed to do the course on May 5 when he struck a plea bargain deal with public prosecutors and accepted a six-month suspended prison sentence for the assault earlier the same day on ex Nicoline Artursson at a rented Costa del Sol home. He was also given a restraining order preventing him from approaching the 32-year-old model or contacting her for the next two years. Argent's new lawyer is known to be based in Malaga but he has not yet been named. A Spanish court official said yesterday: 'The executory phase of the sentence has now been initiated. It was initiated on May 26.' A well-placed legal source added: 'The individual who was convicted has appointed a new barrister and solicitor. 'They haven't presented any special requests relating to the course their client has to do but that doesn't mean they can't or won't end up doing so. Normally it's a local social insertion centre, which is part of the Spanish penitentiary system and aims to help individuals transition back into society after a period of incarceration, which contacts the convicted person to establish the way they're going to do the course and address issues like the timetable." Experts have said they expect Argent to be obliged to attend ten once-a-week workshops where educators will try to make him see what he did was wrong and help him ensure he doesn't reoffend in the future as part of the resocialization course requirement linked to the sentence. The possibility he can do it in the UK has been downplayed in Spain because of Brexit. James confirmed his relationship with Nicoline last September. The pair told OK! magazine in their first interview together last November they were living together after Nicoline moved into her then-boyfriend's home in Essex and were already looking ahead to starting a family together.

The indictment shows public prosecutors were intending to push for a nine-month prison sentence for Argent for a crime of wounding. He was spared jail after striking a plea bargain deal with public prosecutors ahead of his May 5 trial at Fuengirola's Court of Violence Against Women following his arrest hours earlier. Speaking out for the first time since the news was announced, Argent told the MailOnline that he is still sober and 'devastated' by the incident. 'I haven't relapsed. I am still three years and four months clean and sober.' 'I am devastated by what's happened,' he said. He returned to the stage weeks later, singing with The Arg Band at London's Connaught Rooms for a charity gig. Earlier reports have already revealed that Argent pushed his now ex-girlfriend down a flight of stairs, causing the injuries. Following the shocking incident, Argent made a return to the stage by the end of the week to perform - as he earns a living from singing. It has been reported that he has earned £5,000 in the past week, with news of the amount he was ordered to pay Artursson in compensation regarded as "a drop in the ocean". The Sun has claimed to have seen court papers that reveal Argent was ordered to pay compensation to his victim. A source told the outlet: "Compensation of just £250, for someone with his earning potential, is a drop in the ocean. The courts in Spain can't pull cash compensation figures out of the air. "They have to follow strict guidelines that revolve around medical bills victims can show they've had to pay or proven losses they've had because of time off work. But the amount James Argent has to pay here is small change for someone like him." The Mirror has contacted a representative of Argent for comment. Last week, The Mirror reported details from the court reports following Argent's sentencing. A prosecutor said in the written document: 'The injured woman suffered several bruises to her neck, a bruise to her right forearm, several abrasions to her right arm, and abrasions to her right hand and on her right leg.' Confirming she received medical assistance, the prosecutor said: 'The injuries she suffered healed in seven days on skin and soft tissue.' As part of the court's ruling, it is thought Argent may now also complete a ten-week domestic violence rehabilitation course in Spain, which includes listening to the stories of abuse survivors. This week, Argent made a return to social media where he was photographed alongside a friend at a black-tie charity event. In the caption, he wrote: "It was an honour to perform for The Wickers Charity raising over £100,000. So proud of @brogangarritsmith for all her hard work." Dressed in a black tuxedo and bow tie, Argent appeared upbeat as he posed for the camera at the elegant London venue. He also took to the stage with The Arg Band, entertaining attendees at the Wickers Charity Ball - an event dedicated to combating knife crime in the capital. A source close to Argent and his partner Nicoline told the Sun: "James should be ashamed of himself. He is acting like nothing happened and seems to be trying to brush over this. What he did was serious. "People who knew them as a couple were so shocked by what had happened but now to see James smiling and playing up to the cameras. It feels shameless."
