Woman alleges torture by husband, in-laws over dowry
T'puram: A 29-year-old physiotherapist was allegedly tortured physically and mentally by her husband and his family, demanding more dowry at Muttathara. On the complaint of the Pachalloor-based woman, Poonthura police registered a case under IPC Section 498-A for subjecting a woman to cruelty by husband or relatives and Section 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The woman alleged that she was tortured physically and mentally by the accused ever since they got married on Dec 3, 2020. In the complaint, she alleged that her family gave 50 sovereigns of gold as dowry during the marriage, but her husband Arif Hussein, 34, and mother-in-law Mubeena Hussein, 56, allegedly demanded Rs 15 lakh more."I was beaten up several times demanding dowry. There were days I was not even allowed to drink water and his family members used to compel him to divorce me. When he received a salary hike, the family claimed that he would have got more dowry than my family gave. I was humiliated when I gave birth to a baby girl and was directed not to get pregnant again," said the victim in her complaint. In addition to the husband and mother-in-law, police have also added three others from the family as accused in the case. "The allegations raised by the woman are being verified. If they are found guilty, we will arrest the accused," police said.

Pahalgam terror attack: Tributes paid to victims
Mysuru: Members of the Hindu and Muslim communities, under the banner of the Karnataka State Backward Classes Awareness Forum and Responsible Citizens Voice, on Friday paid tributes to tourists who lost their lives in a terrorist attack at Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing the gathering, State Backward Classes Forum president KS Shivaram condemned the brutal killing of innocent tourists and criticised the Union govt, accusing it of intelligence failure and failing to ensure adequate security arrangements at the tourist spots in Jammu and Kashmir. "As terrorist activities increase during the BJP regime in the hill state, the Union govt must take all precautions to prevent such incidents," he demanded. He accused the Union govt and BJP leaders of politicising the terrorist attack that claimed 26 lives. He also sought the Union govt to apologise to the people of the nation for its security lapses , besides ensuring safety measures for tourists visiting the hill state, as more than one crore tourists visit the state every year. Former mayor Arif Hussein said the Union govt must act tough to end cross-border terrorism and stop terrorist infiltration to prevent such incidents.
