Is TV Show Jhanak Ending? Arjit Taneja Sets The Record Straight

Arjit Taneja, the lead actor of Jhanak, has expressed his disappointment over ongoing rumours about the show going off air. You must be living under a rock if you have not heard rumours of Star Plus' show, Jhanak, going off air. The show, which underwent a significant transformation with a 20-year leap and a new cast, including Arjit Taneja, Riya Sharma and Twinkle Arora, was at the centre of the buzz. Now, the lead actor has stepped in to quash the rumours. In an X (formerly Twitter) post, Arjit Taneja opened up about the negativity surrounding Jhanak's rumoured conclusion. 'Seeing people celebrate #Jhanak going off air is sad. A show supports 150+ jobs. I know as fans there could be a lot of things one isn't satisfied with, but actors do their best with the given content, but we don't control it," he wrote. Arjit acknowledged that while fans may have their reservations about the show, actors strive to deliver their best despite limitations. 'Lift each other up, don't cheer lows. Also, show's NOT ending, just shifting time slots. No show deserves negativity," he emphasised. Take a look here: Although Star Plus hasn't officially announced the new time slot, industry insiders suggest that Jhanak will continue airing, just at a later time, as part of the channel's programming changes. The buzz around the upcoming premiere of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, which is set to take over the 10:30 PM slot. This added to the confusion and led many to believe that Jhanak was ending. In the current storyline, Jhanak and Aditi are getting closer, which is causing problems for Rishi. While Rishi tries to distance Aditi from Jhanak, Aditi becomes even more determined to support her friend. The emotional tension builds as Jhanak is about to reveal a shocking secret about Rishi – something that could completely change the relationship between all three characters. view comments First Published: July 11, 2025, 19:01 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. I don't want to play a 50-year-old: Gaurav M Sharma on exiting Jhanak

Gaurav M Sharma Gaurav M Sharma joined Jhanak just a month ago, but his role has ended owing to the time leap that the show has just taken. While he is understandably disappointed, he is clear that he doesn't want to play an older character. 'Jhanak has taken a 20- year leap and I wouldn't want to play a 50-year-old guy. I quit Anupamaa earlier for the same reason,' he says. The actor shares that he has consistently tried to avoid being typecast, yet he's often offered grey or negative characters. He says, 'After I played the antagonist in Diya Aur Baati Hum, makers thought of me for similar roles. I wanted to break that stereotype and hence took a break. After a short hiatus, I acted in OTT shows, but later realised how TV is a mass medium and lucrative. Today, I am glad that I am offered different kinds of roles. ' He adds, 'I'm not limiting myself to just TV. I want to do more OTT and films, but TV is a great mass medium, and it helps me survive.' Currently, the show has taken a leap and Arjit Taneja and Riya Sharma are playing the lead roles. The current track focusses on how Jhanak's daughter is now 18 years old and they both live in the same village. In Kolkata, Arshi's daughter has grown up and she works as a teacher in college. Arjit Taneja plays a police inspector and he is posted in the same village where Jhanak lives with her daughter. Enjoy The New Hindi Music Video For Humnava By Gaurav Sharma And Kriti Sharma

Arjit Taneja: Ratings matter, but you can't keep thinking about that

Arjit Taneja After wrapping up his role in Kaise Mujhe Tum Mil Gaye, Arjit Taneja wasn't in a rush to take on another project. So, when he was offered the male lead role in Jhanak after the generational leap, his first instinct was to decline. 'I prefer being part of a show from the start,' he explains, adding, 'With leaps, there's usually a lingering attachment to the original cast. Also, I needed time to detach from my previous character and experience. But sometimes, you have to go with the flow, and eventually, I said yes.' Quite often, a popular face is roped in to boost an ongoing show's ratings. On dealing with the pressure that comes with such a move, Arjit says, 'Of course, ratings matter — they determine how long a show runs. But you can't keep thinking about that. My focus is on doing justice to the role and I want this new character to connect with viewers the way my last character Virat did. Chemistry with the heroine, a solid story and a supportive team all play a role. I had that in my last show, and I hope I find that here too. When you are spending 12 hours a day on set, the environment matters.' In a previous chat with us, Arjit confirmed that he was indeed part of the show and shared how he initially declined the offer before eventually agreeing. He recalled, 'While I was still shooting for KMTMG, I got a call from the production house of Jhanak for what I thought was a new show. I did a mock shoot but didn't think much of it since I was busy wrapping up a show I was emotionally invested in. Later, they told me the mock shoot wasn't for a new show but for the male lead in Jhanak after the leap. I declined the offer. I've always believed that if I do a show, I want to start from the beginning.' When asked what changed his mind, he replied, 'The makers reached out again and explained their vision. They pitched it as a new version with a fresh story, and that made me see it differently.'

Jhanak promo: Riya Sharma impresses fans with her new look; Arjit Taneja enters the show as a cop

Jhanak has ventured into a new story track with a 20-year leap, giving way to a new storyline and new lead actors. Television popular stars Riya Sharma and Arjit Taneja are replacing former leads Hiba Nawab and Krushal Ahuja as the new lead protagonists. While the details of the post-leap storyline remain under wraps, a newly released promo gives a glimpse into what's to come. Riya Sharma now plays the titular role of Jhanak, while Arjit Taneja portrays a police officer. The promo shows a brief but telling encounter: Jhanak is walking with her bicycle when it is accidentally pushed by a cop's motorcycle. He apologizes, but she refuses to accept it. When he offers her compensation to apologize, she visibly bristles and states that she will report to the police station to complain — against the officer himself. The exchange suggests a forceful Jhanak and primes the audience for a hot-headed chemistry between the new leads. Prior to the leap, Jhanak was played by Hiba Nawab and Anirudh by Krushal Ahuja. Both the actors have since left the show. It is said that Hiba decided to leave because of the age leap her character needed, not feeling that it was the right time for her in her career. Surprisingly, the jump was already scheduled months prior but was delayed and ultimately scrapped because of scheduling issues. But with ratings remaining essentially level, the production staff opted to finally proceed with the makeover. With Arjit Taneja and Jhanak Sharma at the center, the show is looking forward to reviving its storyline while keeping its emotional essence intact. Whether this jump will be complete and bring people back is yet to be seen — but one thing is sure: Jhanak is stepping into a new phase altogether.
