Petra Jaya villager who trespassed into neighbour's compound to steal mangoes gets RM1,000 fine

KUCHING (July 17): A man was today fined RM1,000 in default one month in jail after he pleaded guilty to trespassing into a fellow villager's compound to steal mangoes.
Hamzah Bakeri, 37, from Kampung Semariang Jaya in Petra Jaya here was charged with committing criminal trespass under Section 447 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to six months in prison or a fine not exceeding RM3,000, or both, upon conviction.
He committed the offence at 3.45am on July 14.
Based on the facts of the case, the homeowner heard noises outside her house and, upon checking, saw Hamzah plucking mangoes from a tree within her fenced compound.
Together with her husband, the couple apprehended Hamzah and handed him over to police along with a rattan basket containing 17 mangoes.
