Early morning blaze razes 5 squatter homes in Jalan Klang Lama
KUALA LUMPUR: Five squatter houses on Jalan Klang Lama were destroyed in a huge fire during the early hours of today.
Several images of the towering flames, visible from nearby condominiums along Jalan Klang Lama, circulated shortly after the incident, which occurred at around 1am.
City Fire and Rescue Department Operations Commander Armdan Mahat said the emergency call was received via the MERS999 line at 1.45am.
"A total of 27 personnel and officers, together with six fire engines from the Seputeh Fire Station, and support from Hang Tuah, Pantai, and Sri Hartamas Fire Stations, were dispatched to the scene," he said in a statement today.
The team arrived six minutes later to find five squatter houses ablaze.
"The fire was brought under control at 2.23am, and overhaul operations are currently ongoing," he added.
Fortunately, all the affected houses were unoccupied at the time, and no casualties were reported.
