Ohio State freshman safety adds depths to secondary after losing black stripe
Another ballyhooed Ohio State freshman has lost his black stripe. Safety Faheem Delane was officially welcomed to the Brotherhood on Saturday afternoon.
Delane was the No. 8 prospect in the 2025 class at the safety position according to 247Sports. Coming out of Olney, Maryland, he has all the makings of another top-end defender on the back side of the defense. He picked the Buckeyes out of a final three of Ohio State, LSU, and Oregon.
247Sports Director of Scouting, Andrew Irvins, sees great things ahead, calling Delane "An aggressive back-seven defender that can cover the pass, defend the run, and get home on the blitz. Owns a college-ready frame having measured roughly 6-foot-2.5, 200 pounds summer before junior season. Quick to trigger and tends to play with tons of confidence. Has been utilized primarily as a box safety and a slot corner at the prep level and found plenty of success in both roles. Physical more times than not and always looking to deliver a blow. Serviceable in man-to-man situations and held his own at Under Armour's Future annual event, producing a pair of takeaways."
The Silver Bullets are loaded at the safety position, but Delane is looking to carve a role early in his freshman campaign. Caleb Downs, who is the best in the country, will most likely be paired with Jaylen McClain or Malik Hartford. However, coaches seem to be impressed with what they see from the true freshman as he pushes for playing time.
