Three men charged over trash bin attack on Armpunk Sindicate's vocalist in Johor Baru
JOHOR BARU, May 16 — Three men were charged in the Magistrate's Court here today for their involvement in the assault of local punk group Armpunk Sindicate's vocalist here last week. The accused — Samsul Muarif M Padal, 36; Mozlani Tukimon, 35; and Muhammad Ahnaf Ab Rahman, 34 — pleaded guilty after the charge was read out before Magistrate Nabilah Nizam. However, the court rejected the guilty plea as Mozlani and Muhammad Ahnaf did not admit to the facts of the case as read out, that they were not involved in using an aluminium trash bin as a weapon. According to the charge sheet, the three accused had intentionally caused injury to the victim, Zaid Nazim Zainal Abidin, 23, by using an aluminium trash bin as a weapon to attack and potentially cause death. The act was committed in front of a gymnasium at City Plaza, Jalan Wadi Hana here at 10.30pm on May 10. Deputy Public Prosecutor R. Nevina proposed that each accused be granted a bail of RM10,000, but this was objected to by the National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) counsel Goh Poh Gek, who represented all three accused. Goh said Muarif does not have a regular income and is still supporting his elderly parents. Meanwhile, she added that Mozlani works at a factory drawing an income of RM2,000 a month. 'Muhammad Ahnaf is divorced and has a child. He does freelance work with a salary of RM2,000 a month,' she said, adding that the three were first-time offenders. The court then allowed bail of RM3,500 each with one surety. The court also set June 17 for mention and the submission of documents.

According to local reports, six suspects were arrested during a series of raids conducted earlier this week, following the brutal attack on the victim last weekend. Their smart devices were also confiscated to assist in the investigation. 'The 3 suspects are now being remanded for 4 days until Friday for further investigation. However, according to a police statement, the incident is believed to have stemmed from a past misunderstanding between the main suspect and the victim during a music event in Ampang last year. Police are also reportedly tracking down other individuals who may have been involved in the alleged assault. The case is currently being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for armed rioting, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for the misuse of social media networks, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for the consumption of illegal substances. As for Zed, there have been no updates from him or the band regarding his condition. However, it was previously reported that he received medical treatment at Ampang Hospital. We wish him a swift recovery and hope that security measures at music events will be strengthened in light of this incident. Sources: Facebook, MalayMail (1)(2), TheVocket

[Watch] Punk Band Vocalist Beaten Up After At Gig In Johor Bahru
Subscribe to our FREE The lead vocalist of a local punk band was severely beaten up by a group of men outside of a restroom, after performing a gig in Wadi Hana, Johor Bahru. Footage of the incident captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) has since gone viral on social media. Six men could be seen waiting just outside the restroom door waiting for Zed, the vocalist of Armpunk Sindicate, to come out. As Zed left the restroom, a bald man dressed in black grabbed him by the arm and threw him to the floor before repeatedly punching him. The other men watched for a few seconds before dragging Zed across the floor towards another door. Later in the video, the bald man pulled something out of his jacket but the item is obscured. It's believed that he was attempting to pull out a weapon but his friends stopped him from using it on Zed. They then pulled Zed through another door where he is just out of view, before the bald man picked up a nearby metal trash can and used it to continue beating the vocalist. Johor Bahru South district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said an investigation paper has been opened under Section 148 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Act, Kosmo! reported. Armpunk Sindicate claimed that the group had allegedly assaulted Zed after he did not 'kiss' their hands when he greeted them earlier (this is a Malay custom to touch your forehead on an older person's hand when you salam them). They also claimed that during the gig, someone had splashed urine at them while they were performing on stage. After the incident, the band shared multiple anti-bullying messages on their official social media pages, reminding everyone that music and art scenes are a safe space with no tolerance for violence. They also identified two of the men involved in the assault as 'Toyol' and 'Chak'. At the time of writing, no suspects have been arrested yet, while the band and Zed have received support from fans who stand in solidarity against bullying and gangsterism.
