Six arrested over punk band Armpunk Sindicate's vocalist assault at JB skinhead concert, police link motive to past feud
Johor Bahru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat said the police are confident that they can solve the assault case after the incident was widely disseminated via a video footage on social media.
'Based on the video footage, investigators made a report at 1.14am yesterday, before the victim filed a police report at 3pm on the same day at the Ampang police station in Selangor.
'On Monday, police arrested three men, aged 34 to 36, at 11.30pm in Johor Baru and Segamat. Yesterday, police arrested three other men, aged between 28 and 40, in the same districts,' he said in a press statement here.
The arrests were part of an ongoing police probe into the incident.
Raub said investigators also confiscated six mobile phones belonging to the suspects to assist in investigations.
He said initial investigations indicated that the incident was believed to have been triggered at a gymnasium near the City Plaza shopping centre here during a live band performance by Remember 69 Rundown at 10.30pm on Saturday.
'The victim, the vocalist for Armpunk Sindicate from Ampang, Selangor, was attacked by several men using metal trash cans. The cause of the incident is believed to be from an old misunderstanding that occurred between the main suspect and the victim during a music event in Ampang last year,' he said.
The band had alleged that the vocalist was assaulted for failing to greet and kiss the hands of older individuals who attended the concert.
Raub said the initial three suspects had prior criminal records each and one tested positive for illicit drugs through a screening test.
'The three suspects are now being remanded for four days until Friday for further investigation. Of the remaining three suspects, one currently has a criminal record and the other tested positive for marijuana abuse. All three have been remanded four days until Saturday,' he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for armed rioting, Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for misuse of social media networks and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for introducing drugs into the body.
Raub said police are in the midst of completing the investigation papers for the proposed prosecution of all the suspects in court.
'We are also tracking down any other individuals who may be involved in the incident,' he said.
In the recent incident, that attracted interest from various musical groups, the victim suffered injuries to his head, face and other parts of his body. He was reported to be receiving treatment as an outpatient at the Ampang Hospital.

He was charged with committing the offences when the victim was 12 at a house in Kampung Tanah Merah, Krubong, between November 2022 and July 2023, Harian Metro reported. He was altogether sentenced to 166 years in jail, including 22 years on each rape charge, and nine strokes of the rotan for the offences. Judge Rohatul Akmar Abdullah ordered the prison sentences to run concurrently from the date of his arrest on Aug 18, 2023, but for the whipping to be administered consecutively. Rohatul also ordered him to undergo mandatory counselling and to be placed under police supervision for three years after his release from prison. On July 7, the sessions court sentenced the same man to 15 years in prison and six strokes of the rotan on four charges of rape and one of sexual assault against another niece, the younger sister of the victim in today's case.

Ismanira had no sinister intent towards Zayn, court told
The Petaling Jaya sessions court will decide on Oct 31 whether Ismanira Abdul Manaf is guilty of neglecting Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. PETALING JAYA : Text messages Ismanira Abdul Manaf sent to her husband before and on the day their son Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin went missing do not indicate any harmful intent towards the boy or herself, a child psychologist told the sessions court here today. Dr Noor Aishah Rosli, 49, said her evaluation of the couple's WhatsApp conversations indicated that Ismanira was merely venting her emotions to her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari. Among the messages purportedly sent by Ismanira include 'stress nak mati' (I'm stressed to death), 'rasa macam nak bunuh diri' (I feel like killing myself), 'lantak la nak hidup ke mati' (I don't care whether I live or die), and 'budak ni elok je, takde la aku pukul dia' (this boy is fine, I didn't hit him). 'This is a wife pouring out her emotions to her husband. It's normal, especially from a mother caring for two children with autism. 'From a psychological point of view, we cannot conclude that she intended to commit a crime based on those words,' said the fifth and last defence witness. Noor Aishah added that it was not unusual for people to use such strong language when confiding in their partner, saying it did not mean they had harmful intentions. While Ismanira might have been emotionally exhausted when she spoke about taking her own life, Noor Aishah said it appeared to be merely an emotional outburst aimed at gaining Zaim's attention. When asked by Ismanira's lawyer Haresh Mahadevan whether Zayn walking a few steps behind his mother before he went missing could amount to neglect, Noor Aishah disagreed. 'Neglect must be assessed from the child's birth until the day of the incident. Everything prior to the incident appeared normal. 'It was only on that day that he happened to be walking behind her, and a few seconds later, he went missing. That alone cannot be defined as neglect,' she said. She added that no professional body in the world would consider a mother walking ahead of her child as an act of neglect. Ismanira and Zaim, both aged 30, were charged last year with neglecting Zayn in a manner likely to cause him physical harm. However, Zaim was acquitted after the prosecution failed to establish a prima facie case against him. The alleged offence took place in PJU Damansara Damai between noon on Dec 5, 2023 – when Zayn was reported missing – and 9.55pm the next day, when his body was found in a stream near his home at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai. Deputy public prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi are leading the prosecution. Judge Syahliza Warnoh fixed Oct 31 for a decision.

Zayn Rayyan's mother closes defence after expert says messages showed no malice, verdict of neglect trial due Oct 31
PETALING JAYA, Aug 5 — The defence team for the mother of Zayn Rayyan Abdul Matin, charged with neglect resulting in physical harm to her six-year-old autistic son, closed its case today after calling five witnesses. Defence counsel Haresh Mahadevan, representing Ismanira Abdul Manaf, 30, informed the court that the defence was closing its case following the testimony of child psychologist Dr Noor Aishah Rosli, 49, who took the stand today. 'The defence has no further witnesses, and we close our case today,' he said. Judge Dr Syahliza Warnoh then fixed Sept 8 for written submissions from both parties, Sept 22 for oral replies and Oct 31 for the verdict on whether to convict or acquit Ismanira. On July 21, the court ordered Ismanira to enter her defence after the prosecution established a prima facie case against her at the close of its case. She testified in her own defence over three days, beginning July 21. Earlier, Dr Noor Aishah testified that the following WhatsApp messages were normal expressions from a mother caring for an autistic child: 'haishhh stress nak mati' ( I'm so stressed I could die) 'budak ni elok je takde pun aku pukul… sebenarnya aku tepuk punggung masing-masing je tapi aku cakap perkataan berlasah sebab aku tengah geram dan marah sangat-sangat' (The kid's fine, I didn't actually hit him… I just smacked his bottom, but I said 'beat up' because I was feeling really annoyed and angry). 'From a psychological perspective, these should not be viewed as an intention to commit a crime. If you ask anyone, it's common for messages to a spouse to contain harsh words, but without any intent behind them,' she said. She described the messages as Ismanira's way of expressing affection for her son while venting to her husband, who was at work at the time. Dr Noor Aishah said the texts were emotional outbursts, light-hearted remarks, and not to be taken seriously, with no indication of malicious intent. 'I find these kinds of conversations reflect a marital relationship. The language may appear harsh, but it's just surface-level, idle talk meant only to release emotions,' she added during examination-in-chief by Haresh. Today's proceedings were conducted by deputy public prosecutors Raja Zaizul Faridah Raja Zaharudin, Aqharie Durranie Aziz and Nur Sabrina Zubairi, while Haresh, Ramzani Idris and Lavanesh Haresh appeared for Ismanira. On July 21, Judge Syahliza ordered Ismanira to enter her defence after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against her. Her husband, Zaim Ikhwan Zahari, 30, was discharged and acquitted of the same charge. On June 13 last year, Zaim Ikhwan and Ismanira, both aged 30, pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court to a charge of neglecting their six-year-old autistic son in a manner likely to cause physical harm, along PJU Damansara Damai between noon on Dec 5 and 9.55 pm on Dec 6, 2023. They were charged under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which is punishable by a maximum fine of RM50,000, imprisonment of up to 20 years, or both upon conviction. Zayn Rayyan was reported missing on Dec 5, 2023, and his body was discovered in a stream near his home at Apartment Idaman, Damansara Damai, the following day. He was believed to have been murdered, and an autopsy revealed injuries to his neck and body, consistent with self-defense. — Bernama
