Previewing the 2025 season for Texas A&M LB Scooby Williams with his player profile
As we gear up for the 2025 football season, Aggies Wire is breaking down every player on the Texas A&M roster. Throughout the preseason, each profile will highlight a player's background, recruiting rankings out of high school, and projected role under head coach Mike Elko.
Scooby Williams is one of Elko's first-year transfers who contributed immediately, bringing familiarity to the defensive scheme led by Jay Bateman, who also joined from Florida. Paired with York, they provide a veteran presence on the field with solid depth behind them.
Williams played much of the 2024 season with an injury, yet still managed 10 starts across 11 games. Over that span, he finished fourth on the team in tackles (43) and tackles for loss (7.5). If Williams returns fully healthy, his sideline-to-sideline range and blitzing ability from the linebacker spot give the coaching staff flexibility to disguise defensive looks.
Preseason Player Profile
Recruiting Rankings (Class of 2021)
The former four-star prospect coming out of high school was a tweener and elite edge rusher, tallying 107 tackles, 25 tackles for loss, and 15 sacks across his sophomore and junior seasons. He played in the Mississippi State All-Star game and was selected for the Army All-American Bowl.
Depth Chart Outlook
Linebacker is loaded with young talent, and at some point this season, we could see a rotation next to team captain Taurean York. However, Williams is projected to start the season alongside York, and barring any surprises, he should hold down that role throughout the year.
