Agniveer dies, 2 soldiers hurt as landmine goes off in J&k

JAMMU: An Army Agniveer lost his life and two other soldiers were injured Friday when a landmine meant to check infiltration went off accidentally near the LoC in Krishna Ghati area of J&K's Poonch, reports Sanjay Khajuria. Agniveer Lalit Kumar of 7 JAT Regiment was on patrol as part of area-domination exercises with colleagues when the explosion occurred in the zone lashed by rain in the past few days, official sources said. It was not clear yet where Lalit hailed from. Havaldar Gajindera Singh and Subedar Hari Ram were airlifted to Army Hospital in Udhampur, around 300km away. The stretch along the LoC in J&K is dotted with landmines as a part of an Anti-Infiltration Obstacle System (AIOS). A few stray mines are sometimes washed away by rain and go off accidentally on contact, official sources said. "WhiteKnightCorps and all ranks pay solemn tribute to Agniveer Lalit Kumar, who made the supreme sacrifice. We stand with the bereaved family in this hour of grief," the Army's White Knight Corps posted on X.

Army constable dies as dummy bomb payload falls on head

Bhopal: In an accident that occurred during a military training session at the firing range in Sukhi Sewania, a dummy bomb (payload) being carried by a drone accidentally fell on a havaldar's head, leading to his death. The incident took place on Monday during the routine training exercise. Sukhi Sewania SHO Rambabu Choudhary said that the deceased, Vijay Singh, 37, a native of Uttarakhand, was serving as a Havaldar in the Army unit in Bhopal. According to initial reports, the drones were flying at a height, transporting dummy bombs from one point to another. During the session, one of the drones reportedly malfunctioned at high altitude, causing the dummy bomb it was carrying to fall directly on Havaldar Vijay Singh's head. He sustained critical head injuries. Fellow personnel rushed him to the Army Hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The police registered a case and handed over the body to Army officials after post-mortem on Tuesday. Indian Army Soldier Dies In MPs Bhopal Drone Training Accident; Dummy Bomb Falls On Head

A routine training exercise turned fatal for an Army soldier on Monday evening when a four-kilogram iron dummy bomb struck his head during a drone simulation at the Army Firing Range in Bhopal's Sukhi Sewania area. According to police, the bomb—intended for a controlled drop during the session—fell from a height of approximately 400 feet and hit Havildar Vijay Singh on the head. The impact proved fatal, and Singh died on the spot. The training session was part of a programme to equip personnel with drone warfare preparedness. Havildar Singh, 37, hailed from Uttarakhand and was posted at the Army Office in Bairagarh, Bhopal. He had reported to the firing range for scheduled routine exercises when the mishap occurred. Police officials confirmed that preliminary findings point to the accidental release of the dummy bomb from the drone. An investigation is underway to determine whether technical failure or a breach in safety protocol contributed to the incident. According to preliminary reports, the dummy bomb, mounted on a drone for simulation purposes, deviated from its designated drop zone and hit the soldier. He was immediately rushed to the Army Hospital, but succumbed to his injuries during treatment. Police authorities reached the scene promptly after being notified. An investigating officer from Sukhi Sewania Police Station confirmed that a case has been registered and Panchnama proceedings completed. 'The post-mortem examination has been conducted, and the police were looking into possible causes, including equipment malfunction or oversight in safety protocols,' the officer added. This accident has brought renewed attention to safety measures during high-risk training operations. Defence analysts note that with the increasing integration of drone technology into military tactics, standard operating procedures must evolve accordingly. In a separate incident last month, two constables were critically injured after a hand grenade exploded during a mock drill in Bhopal. The explosion occurred during a training exercise at the 25th Battalion premises, where security personnel were demonstrating the use of grenades as part of a preparedness drill. Head Constable Vishal Singh and Constable Santosh Kumar had sustained serious injuries in the blast.
