German FA doubles bonus for women's team to win Euro 2025

Germany's national women's soccer team coach, Christian Wueck (C), speaks to the players during a training session at the DFB Campus. Germany's women footballers will receive a record bonus if they win the European Championship title this July. Arne Dedert/dpa Germany's women footballers will receive a record bonus if they win the European Championship title this July. Each player will earn €120,000 ($136,500) if they lift the trophy in Switzerland, the German Football Federation (DFB) announced on Tuesday. Advertisement The bonus for winning the last Euros in England in 2021, when Germany finished second to the hosts, was half as much. From the quarter-finals onwards, Germany players will receive "performance-based bonuses" as agreed by the team council and the federation. For reaching the last eight, each player could earn up to €45,000. Reaching the semi-finals would bring €65,000, and participation in the final would be rewarded with €90,000. The final will take place on July 27 at St. Jakob-Park in Basel. "There needs to be more performance incentives in women's football," DFB president Bernd Neuendorf said in a statement. "The victory bonus, now doubled compared to the last European Championship, is therefore an important signal." Advertisement Captain Giulia Gwinn commented: "For us as a national team, sporting success is the top priority. That's why it was clear to us from the start that we would agree on a performance-based bonus system." She added that the team and the federation had "found a good solution together." Record eight-times winners Germany, led by coach Christian Wück, will begin their European Championship campaign on July 4 in St Gallen against Poland. They then face Denmark on July 8 in Basel and the third group-stage match will take place on July 12 in Zurich against Sweden.

Photo: Arne Dedert/dpa FRANKFURT, April 28 (Bernama-dpa) - German health care and science group Merck has sealed a deal to bolster its cancer treatment portfolio with a US$3.9 billion acquisition of US biotech firm SpringWorks Therapeutics, German Press Agency (dpa) reported. Chief executive Belén Garijo on Monday called the deal a "major step" for Merck, adding that it will sharpen the company's focus on patients with rare tumours, accelerate company growth, and strengthen its presence in the US. The acquisition is expected to close in the second half of the year, pending approval from SpringWorks shareholders and regulatory authorities. bootstrap slideshow SpringWorks, based in Connecticut, was spun off from Pfizer in 2017 and specialises in therapies for tumours and blood cancers. The company already has a US-approved drug for advanced soft tissue tumours, which may soon gain approval in the European Union. Merck had confirmed advanced discussions with SpringWorks last week. Despite recent growth in its pharmaceuticals division, Merck has faced pressure to bring new drugs to market after several high-profile clinical trial failures. Merck had therefore increasingly focused on licensing other companies' drugs, but recently began considering acquisitions again. Garijo emphasised that Merck is still positioned to pursue further "major transactions" after the SpringWorks deal. Merck's last major acquisition was in 2019, when it bought US semiconductor supplier Versum Materials for approximately US$5.8 billion.

Chiefs And Rams Lead NFL In Global Marketing Rights

Photo: Arne Dedert/dpa (Photo by Arne Dedert/picture alliance via Getty Images) Chiefs Kingdom is getting more expansive, and only Rams Nation can match it. On Monday the NFL announced that the Kansas City Chiefs were awarded marketing and commercialization rights for the United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain as part of the NFL's Global Markets Program. 'We are incredibly excited to bring Chiefs football to fans in the U.K., Ireland and Spain,' said Chiefs owner Clark Hunt in a statement. 'Kansas City has certainly made a name for itself in the global sports landscape, and we are proud to showcase our town and our team on the international stage.' The Chiefs already had rights in Mexico, Germany, Austria and Switzerland. Only the Los Angeles Rams, who have rights in Australia, where it will host the first NFL game Down Under in 2026; China; Japan; South Korea; Mexico; New Zealand and United Arab Emirates, can match the Chiefs with seven countries. The Rams had six before just adding the United Arab Emirates. Twenty-nine NFL clubs will participate in the global marketing rights program across 21 international countries. NFL clubs can apply for those rights to international markets by submitting proposals to the International Committee for review each spring. Clubs are then awarded rights for a five-year term. During that five-year period, teams — like the Chiefs and Rams — can pursue activities in these international markets, which are consistent with what they can do in their home domestic market. The Chiefs, who were scheduled to play the Rams in Mexico in 2018 before turf issues arose, plan to host events in their new international markets to engage fans locally, unveil language-specific properties on their website and app, launch advertising campaigns, sign local sponsorship deals, extend existing domestic sponsors internationally and align with local agencies with on-the-ground expertise. The Chiefs already have launched those kinds of initiatives in Germany, where it played in 2023. That's one reason why the Chiefs — along with the New England Patriots — had cemented themselves as Germany's favorite NFL teams. 'It's probably the Chiefs right now, but it's a close race,' NFL Germany general manager Alexander Steinforth said in 2023. 'They are probably No. 1 and No. 2.' The Chiefs creatively marketed themselves in Germany, including having former soccer player Oliver Bierhoff officially announce the Chiefs' fourth-round selection of Joshua Williams from a 2022 Chiefs draft party; partnering with global sports marketing agency SPORTFIVE; organizing watch parties; becoming an official partner with RTL, which broadcasts live games, and even docking their ChampionShip boat on the Main River of Frankfurt. 'We've been one of the most aggressive international teams in the league,' Chiefs president Mark Donovan said during the week of Super Bowl LIX. Each of the Chiefs' newest international markets — United Kingdom, Ireland and Spain — will host an NFL regular-season games in 2025, and the Chiefs could play there in the future. 'We'd love to be overseas again,' Donovan said. 'Anywhere in Europe really is where we'd like to go.'
