Yahoo is using AI to generate takeaways from this article. This means the info may not always match what's in the article. Reporting mistakes helps us improve the experience. Generate Key Takeaways Following the conclusion of 'Severance' Season 2, Oscar-winning actress Patricia Arquette will portray Maggie Murdaugh in the upcoming Hulu series 'Murdaugh Murders.' For Arquette, it's a story that's 'always' been fascinating. 'To be married to someone who turns out to basically be a malignant narcissist is so interesting to me,' Arquette told Variety at the 'Severance' Season 2 FYC event on Saturday in Los Angeles. 'The way they have this kind of enchanted life together and how completely destroyed everything got. It was such a sad, rotten American tale.' More from Variety The series is based on the reporting of journalist Mandy Matney, creator of the 'Murdaugh Murders' podcast, and will revolve around the powerful Murdaugh family that became accused of fraud and murder. Arquette's character, Maggie Murdaugh, was found dead along with her son, Paul Murdaugh, in 2021. While playing a character like Maggie who is no longer alive proves a great challenge, Arquette is more interested in capturing 'the essence' of any person she plays. 'How much do we participate in our own deception, our own self-deception? How we explain things and make excuses and think people are going to change,' Arquette said. 'That whole dynamic doesn't always end in murder, but it's a really destructive dynamic and I think it's a very common dynamic … [Maggie] loved her kids so much, but it's like a frog in a pot boiling slowly. She got so normalized to this kind of out-of-control behavior.' The cast also inludes Jason Clark as Alex Murdaugh, along with J. Smith-Cameron, Johnny Berchtold, Gerald McRaney, Will Harrison, Brittany Snow, Noah Emmerich, Kathleen Wilhoite and Tommy Dewey. Best of Variety Sign up for Variety's Newsletter. MLB Draft prospect Arquette returns to Hawaii this weekend
One of the most highly anticipated University of Hawai'i baseball series in recent memory is set to begin Friday, as the Rainbow Warriors welcome No. 7 Oregon State to Les Murakami Stadium for a four-game showdown. Three of the four contests have already sold out, with only standing-room tickets available for the first three games. The nationally ranked Beavers (32-11) and the 'Bows (28-14) will meet from Friday through Monday in front of what's expected to be an electric atmosphere in Manoa. Headlining the series is the return of Kailua's Aiva Arquette, Oregon State's standout shortstop and Saint Louis School graduate. A projected top-five pick in the upcoming MLB Draft and a National Player of the Year candidate, Arquette enters the weekend batting .371 with 16 home runs, 54 RBIs and 47 runs scored. 'Absolutely, it's special to come back home and just play in front of a great community—family, my friends—and I get to play against some old teammates as well,' said Arquette. 'So it's going to be fun. Yeah, I'm excited.' As for the sold-out crowds and the atmosphere at Les Murakami Stadium, Arquette added: 'It's going to be so sick. It's a great environment—almost like an SEC environment. We're so stoked to just come down and play baseball. It's really special.' The visit is also a family affair—Arquette is the older brother of current Rainbow Wahine volleyball setter Adrianna Arquette. First pitch for Friday's opener is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. Games 1 and 4 will be televised on Spectrum Sports, with radio broadcasts of all four games available on ESPN Honolulu. David Arquette reveals ‘Scream 7' return blunder: ‘Was supposed to be a surprise'
David Arquette's appearance in 'Scream 7' won't be a jump scare for fans. Deadline revealed in March that Arquette, 53, was reprising his role as Dewey Riley in the next film in the slasher franchise — despite Dewey being killed by Amber Freeman/Ghostface (played by Oscar winner Mikey Madison) in 'Scream 5.' While promoting his new movie 'Mob Cops,' Arquette exclusively told The Post that the news of his 'Scream 7' return 'was a spoiler.' Advertisement 14 Courteney Cox, David Arquette in 'Scream.' ‘Severance' Emmy odds: A goat-load of nominations is predicted for Apple TV+ series
Ahead of Severance's second season finale on Friday, Gold Derby has broken down the show's Emmy potential in the top races for series and acting. (Sadly, there is no category for Best Goat.) For its first season in 2022, Severance was nominated for 14 Emmys and won two craft awards, for main title design and music composition. The series ended up playing third fiddle to Succession Season 3 (which won for series, writing, and supporting actor Matthew Macfadyen) and Squid Game Season 1 (which won for directing, and actor Lee Jung-jae). While Succession is long gone, Squid Game is back this cycle for its second season, though the critical response was somewhat muted. More from GoldDerby Early Emmy odds in 16 categories: 'Hacks,' 'Severance,' 'The Penguin' out front Why Adam Sandler could finally break through at the Oscars this year (and it has nothing to do with 'Happy Gilmore 2') Does 'Happy Face' slay? Reviews range from glowing ('your next TV obsession') to murderous ('entirely misconceived') The four nominated Severance performers the last time around were Adam Scott as Mark Scout in lead actor, Patricia Arquette as Harmony Cobel in supporting actress, and John Turturro as Irving Bailiff and Christopher Walken as Burt Goodman in supporting actor. Severance was also nominated for director Ben Stiller and writer Dan Erickson. Flash-forward three years, and the Apple TV+ sci-fi show about office drones who separate their workplace memories from their personal memories is in prime position to win some major hardware. Apple According to Gold Derby's most recent Emmy odds, Severance is the one to beat for Best Drama Series, in a field predicted to include The Last of Us, The White Lotus, Slow Horses, The Diplomat, The Pitt, Squid Game, and Andor. If our experts, editors, and users are correct, that would make it Apple's first drama champion ever, after the streamer previously prevailed twice on the comedy side for Ted Lasso in 2021 and 2022. SEE 2025 Emmy Awards calendar: Key dates for voting periods, nominations, ceremonies, and more This category looks to be a battle between Scott and Gary Oldman (Slow Horses), with seven of 10 Emmy experts from major media outlets predicting the former, compared to two forecasting the latter. It would be the first career Emmy win for either gentleman. Britt Lower as Helly Riggs (aka Helena Eagan) is in fourth place to win the lead actress race, behind category frontrunners Kathy Bates (Matlock), Keri Russell (The Diplomat), and Bella Ramsey (The Last of Us). A nomination would be just desserts for Lower, after being snubbed for Season 1. For the supporting actress contest, Arquette is in fifth place behind Allison Janney (The Diplomat), Carrie Coon (The White Lotus), Kaitlyn Dever (The Last of Us), and Natasha Rothwell (The White Lotus). Arquette of course is an Oscar champion for Boyhood (2014), and she has two Emmys on her mantel for Medium (2005) and The Act (2019). Other Severance cast members with potential to break through in this category are Dichen Lachman as Ms. Casey/Gemma Scout and Merritt Wever as Gretchen George. Turturro is currently the odds leader with nine of 10 Emmy experts picking him to win (the other is going with Jack Lowden of Slow Horses). This would be Turturro's second career Emmy Award after a guest-acting win for Monk in 2004. Also watch for Walken to make a repeat appearance in this category, while first-timers could include Tramell Tillman as Seth Milchick and Zach Cherry as Dylan George.
