Title within reach for Northern
Northern has put in a lot of hard work and determination to get to where they are.
The side needs one point to wrap up the men's Southern Premier League title with five weeks left in the competition.
If they grab that one point today against Old Boys, they will secure the title — their first since 1979 — in front of their home crowd at the Caledonian.
Northern have gone through the season unbeaten so far, notching 12 wins for 36 points. Mosgiel are second on 24 points, followed by Otago University in third on 22 points.
Northern's motto has been "head down, keep quiet" all season and that will be no different over the next five weeks.
Coach Arran Wilkinson was really proud of his players, who had put in the hard work across the board, and was "really grateful" for all the support they received from their club.
Rory Hibbert has been a standout and leads the competition's race for the golden boot with 16 goals this season.
Team-mate Nick Treadwell is tied for second with Otago University's Ashton Hodson with 11.
In the other Southern Premier League games today, Mosgiel host Green Island at Memorial Park and Queens Park are home to Dunedin City Royals at the ILT Football Turf.
Otago University met Roslyn Wakari at Logan Park Turf last night.
