Chiefs rookie Josh Simmons is attacking rehab "like hell every day"

When the Chiefs selected offensive tackle Josh Simmons to end the first round, head coach Andy Reid said Simmons should be ready for training camp. Simmons had suffered a torn patellar tendon last October while still playing for Ohio State. During rookie minicamp over the weekend, Simmons told reporters that he's doing everything he can to make sure he's ready by late July. "[I] attack rehab as hard as I can — that way, when training camp does come around, I can be the most help that I can possibly be,' Simmons said, via Pete Sweeney of 'There's nothing I can really do to force myself [into the lineup]. There's a lot of vets in here. My thing is just stay out the way and work hard. Be a helpful piece if I can.' Simmons added that his rehab is not easy. 'You have to come in and attack it like hell every day,' Simmons said. 'Just really, really go hard in rehab — that's how you have to do something like this.' He also has to get familiar with a new offensive system. While he did have now-Raiders offensive coordinator Chip Kelly calling plays at Ohio State last year, Simmons has an entirely different philosophy to learn as a rookie. 'The playbook is not as complex as I thought it'd be, but it's different playbook than Chip Kelly, so, [I've] got to do a bit of studying,' Simmons said. But overall the young offensive tackle is feeling 'great' about being with his new club. 'Everything you could ask for [as a] football player,' Simmons said.

Patrick Mahomes' half-brother gets NFL chance at Chiefs rookie camp

The Chiefs are keeping it all in the family. Out of 87 players participating in the team's rookie minicamp this weekend, 60 are on a tryout basis, and one in particular stands out. Following the year, he declared for the draft at 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds but was not selected last week in Green Bay. In his 2023 season at Brown, Walker had 44 catches for 515 yards and six touchdowns. With Rice, he caught 24 passes for 252 yards and zero touchdowns in 2024. His best college year came as a freshman, recording 658 yards for six touchdowns in 2021. It is unknown how Walker and Mahomes define their relationship, but according to the Daily Mail, the two have met a few times. 3 Graham Walker at his college graduation from Brown before attending Rice University. 'I know Patrick has been watching the games, and he's reached out and said good things that I've been doing,' Walker told Seven Days. 'When someone who's accomplished so much can say you're doing well, it really feels good.' Gardner Minshew: I knew Kansas City was where I wanted to be

For a player who's been in the league since just 2019, quarterback Gardner Minshew has bounced around a bit. After two seasons in Jacksonville, he was traded to Philadelphia. Then he signed with the Colts in 2023, moved on to the Raiders in 2024, and after being released signed with the Chiefs for 2025. Minshew wasn't on the open market for long, which was largely because he knew where he wanted to be. 'From the end of our season — when it seemed like I was going to get cut — I knew in my head that this is where I wanted to be,' Minshew said in his news conference late last week, via Jared Sapp of 'I took a pre-draft visit with the Chiefs back in the day [before] coming into the league. I feel like everything went really well — just talking to coach [Andy] Reid and understanding what they're all about. I always knew that [Kansas City would] be a really good fit.' Minshew noted he's long been a fan of Reid's offenses. 'I've always felt that was something that I could do well in,' Minshew said. 'I feel like Pat came up playing in the 'Air Raid.' It was something I did in college as well. I feel like that kind of play style — of just understanding and feeling space and understanding leverage in numbers — really serves you well in the system.' Now that he's officially with the club, Minshew said he's looking forward to being a support system for two-time MVP Patrick Mahomes. 'I'm super fired up to be part of just a winning organization [and] winning culture,' Minshew said. 'I feel like I have so much to learn from how Coach Reid and everybody operates — [and] how Pat operates — and I'm just looking forward to helping in any way I can. If there's any way I can help this team — whether it's on the scout team, whether it's helping Pat in meetings, whether it's just bringing good energy to practice — I look forward to just doing whatever I can to contribute and help this team win.'

Kareem Hunt says he's back in Kansas City to finish the job and win the Super Bowl

Chiefs running back Kareem Hunt wasn't a free agent for long before he agreed to a new deal to return to Kansas City for 2025. He says it's all about getting done what he and his teammates didn't get done in Super Bowl LIX. 'I just wanna focus on finishing the job,' he said, via 'finding a way to win that last game.' Hunt was drafted by the Chiefs in 2017 but still doesn't have a Super Bowl ring, as he was in Cleveland for all three of the Chiefs' recent championships. Hunt thinks he's on a team that has more Super Bowls left in it, though. 'The culture is just great,' he said. 'It didn't end the way we wanted it to. But we've got a lot of work to do — and I feel like we've got another good shot at it.' If the Chiefs get another shot in 2025, they'll have Hunt as part of their offense again.
