Patrick Mahomes' half-brother gets NFL chance at Chiefs rookie camp

New York Post04-05-2025

The Chiefs are keeping it all in the family.
Out of 87 players participating in the team's rookie minicamp this weekend, 60 are on a tryout basis, and one in particular stands out.
Graham Walker, who is the half-brother of quarterback Patrick Mahomes, will be a part of the camp, according to ArrowheadPride.com.
He is also the son of Patrick Mahomes Sr, but he grew up in Vermont with his mom, Jessamyn Walker, and stepfather, Gerry Howatt.

Walker just finished his senior year as a tight end at Rice University, where he transferred last season with the initial plan to play receiver after three years at Brown.
Following the year, he declared for the draft at 6-foot-3 and 227 pounds but was not selected last week in Green Bay.
In his 2023 season at Brown, Walker had 44 catches for 515 yards and six touchdowns. With Rice, he caught 24 passes for 252 yards and zero touchdowns in 2024.
His best college year came as a freshman, recording 658 yards for six touchdowns in 2021.
It is unknown how Walker and Mahomes define their relationship, but according to the Daily Mail, the two have met a few times.

However, Walker recently admitted his three-time Super Bowl-winning half-brother has been keeping a watchful eye on his game.
'I know Patrick has been watching the games, and he's reached out and said good things that I've been doing,' Walker told Seven Days. 'When someone who's accomplished so much can say you're doing well, it really feels good.'
With any luck, Walker could find himself in the Chiefs' tight end room with Travis Kelce.

The camp started on Saturday and is set to run through Monday at the Chiefs' facility.

Drake Maye's seven-word reaction to UDFA receiver's rise in practice

Drake Maye's seven-word reaction to UDFA receiver's rise in practice New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye had high praise for undrafted rookie free agent wide receiver Efton Chism III. The former Eastern Washington standout has generated a lot of buzz in the spring practices by catching nearly everything thrown in his direction. It should come as no surprise considering he had 120 receptions for 1,311 yards and 13 touchdowns in his final college season. The 120 catches broke former Super Bowl MVP Cooper Kupp's record. There was one OTAs practice period in particular where Chism caught 7-of-7 passes thrown in his direction. His ability to consistently get open and make plays is making an early impression on the Patriots, including the second-year quarterback. 'Chis had like 50 catches in OTAs,' said Maye. Chism is quickly showing that he belongs at the NFL level despite being a clear underdog as an undrafted rookie. He is making a case for a spot on the 53-man roster before training camp even begins. New York Giants adjusted spring practice plans after Russell Wilson suggestion

New York Giants adjusted spring practice plans after Russell Wilson suggestion New York Giants head coach Brian Daboll is always seeking ways to make his team more efficient. That starts on the practice field, where he is always open to suggestions.2 Russell Wilson, the former Super Bowl champion quarterback the Giants signed as a free agent this offseason, has not only come in and added talent and experience this spring, but he's also improving the way the team practices. "I think it's important to listen to the quarterbacks, they're the ones that are touching the ball on every play," Daboll told reporters at the Giants' OTAs this week. "Certainly, he has a lot of accolades behind his playing career and experience, it's been good. "And Jameis (Winston) has as well, and (Tommy) DeVito, and even Jaxson (Dart), when you're in that room and you're talking to those guys, they see things from a wide scope perspective and bring things up and there's a lot of good communication. So, I think it's important to really talk and communicate and listen to any of the quarterbacks. But Russ has been good for us, I'd say, in a number of ways since he's been out here." At Wilson's request, Daboll has added more seven-on-seven drills to simulate game situations and scenarios. "That's something that Russell feels really good about. And, you know, you can do it one of two ways. You can do a half line to see coverages. You can do a full field, seven on seven. You know, we've added some competitive periods where they have to play the situations out," Daboll said. "Not that we didn't do that, but we've placed a little bit more emphasis on it. And not just a third-down situation, but maybe a quarter in a game, time left, score. We've done pretty much, I'd say, every day we've done a little bit of that." The added drills, said Daboll, don't just benefit the offense. The defense also benefits. "You see it's good for the defense too in terms of the back seven, just in terms of how they match routes. Their zone drops, adjustments. You can't do one-on-ones during this time, so seven-on-seven was something that we thought we'd add, and we've done quite a bit of that," he said. "But we've added a number of reps, I would say too, situational reps. So every year is a little bit different."

Bills GM Shares New James Cook Update Amid Contract Drama

Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The Buffalo Bills appear to be one of the top Super Bowl contenders in the AFC heading into the upcoming 2025 NFL season. However, there are some major questions that the team will need to answer. One of those questions has to do with the future of starting running back James Cook. Throughout the course of the offseason, the Bills and Cook have been locked into a contract situation. Cook wants a new deal and an aggressive pay raise, while Buffalo has not seemed interested in giving him what he wants in a new deal. Brandon Beane, the Bills' general manager, spoke out recently with a new update on Cook and the contract situation the two sides are facing. "Our interactions with Jimbo have been good the whole time throughout," Beane said. "I know he wasn't here (earlier this offseason), so everyone just draws their own conclusions. When you're talking about it, it's voluntary. We know that, we've had (players miss) it before, even with players who weren't lobbying for a new contract or anything like that." Basically, Beane does not seem too worried about the team's current status with Cook. He didn't touch on anything to do with potential progress with the running back, but he doesn't see any major situations to worry about right now. During the 2024 NFL season with Buffalo, Cook played in 16 games. He carried the football 207 times for 1,009 yards and 16 touchdowns, averaging 4.9 yards per carry. In addition, he caught 32 passes for 258 yards and two more scores. It remains to be seen if they'll be able to do that. Hopefully, there will be no more drama between the two sides. Cook may leave next offseason if he doesn't get a new deal from Buffalo, but he could still be a very important piece towards pursuing a championship in 2025. It will be interesting to see what the future holds between the Bills and their star running back. For more Buffalo Bills and NFL news, head over to Newsweek Sports.
