Artcube 2R2 to spotlight legacy of five pioneering Korean female artists
Artcube 2R2 in Gangnam-gu, southern Seoul, will open a special exhibition on Aug. 22 to shed light on five leading women artists in Korea — Chun Kyung-ja, Park Rae-hyun, Yun Suk-nam, Bang Hye-ja and Ryu Min-ja — and the distinctive visual language they brought to Korean modern and contemporary art. Coinciding with KIAF and Frieze Seoul, which runs Sept. 3-6, the exhibition will feature paintings, drawings, sculptures and media art across each of Artcube 2R2's floors, including the first floor, basement Media Cube and the sixth-floor Lounge Flux, according to the gallery. 'This is not just a retrospective. It is an occasion to reflect on how the luminous legacies of these women artists can be inherited and expanded for future generations,' said Hong Ji-sook, director of Artcube 2R2. The exhibition aims to introduce the historical and contemporary significance of Korean women artists from older generations, born between 1924 and 1942, to collectors and general audiences, and to further expand international interest in Korean women artists, Hong added. The gallery will remain open until late at night for the 'Cheongdam Night' on Sept. 3 for art lovers attending the KIAF and Frieze Seoul art fairs. The exhibition, running through September, marks the first anniversary of the gallery's relocation. The gallery is run by ArtToken, a Korean online platform for trading art and NFTs, non-fungible tokens.

Lee In's solo show at Artcube 2R2 explores social identity
Artist Lee In's solo exhibition 'Encounters on the Horizon' opened Friday at Artcube 2R2 in Gangnam-gu, southern Seoul, where the artist explores questions about identity in society. The solo exhibition consists of two series, 'Palette, something' and 'Black, something,' encompassing Lee's oil paintings and sculptures, which use hanji, traditional Korean mulberry paper. Lee delves into the question of social relationships, according to the gallery. Artcube 2R2 is run by ArtToken, an online platform for trading art in the form of non-fungible tokens. The exhibition runs through June 11. Lee's solo exhibition coincides with a group exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, where he is among the 34 featured artists. The exhibition at LACMA, titled 'Line, Form, Qi: Calligraphic Art from the Foundation INK Collection,' examines innovations in calligraphic art through works of contemporary calligraphy. The exhibition opened April 6 and runs through Oct. 19. The works on display at LACMA reveal the evolution of the pictograph, and explore the relationship between content and form, the development of new scripts and the abstraction of the written word, according to the museum.

ArtToken to join upcoming Art Dubai 2025
Art Token, an online non fungible token art trading platform, will join Art Dubai 2025, scheduled to take place Friday to Sunday. The trading platform will introduce four Asian artists based in Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokyo to the digital section of the art fair. Among the artists is Genesis Kai, a chiral twin and AI-infused alter ego created by Ming Shiu, who will show a meditative digital installation inspired by Korea's traditional moon jar. Painter Oh Ji-yoon, whose works feature layers of "hanji," or Korean traditional mulberry paper, pearl powder and gold, will present a monochromatic abstraction painting at the art fair. Meanwhile, taking a cat as a metaphor for his paintings, Hiroyuki reinterprets Western masterpieces such as Vincent Van Gogh's "Self-Portrait with a Bandaged Ear and Pipe." Painter Oh Soon-kyung reinterprets Korean traditional folk paintings, or "minhwa," into her own artistic practice in a contemporary way. Art Dubai 2025, one of the leading art fairs in the Middle East since 2007, will be held at Madinat Jumeirah, showcasing works from 40 countries and 120 art galleries.
