Kidnapped school pupil rescued in Free State, 5 suspects arrested
Free State police have found Kamogelo Baukudi alive in Wepener on Friday morning after a coordinated rescue operation. The 19-year-old was abducted on June 5 while being driven home from the Martie du Plessis school in Bloemfontein. His disappearance triggered widespread concern and led to the establishment of a task team under the leadership of Mangaung metro district police commissioner Maj-Gen Arthur Adams. "After weeks of intensive investigation, Kamogelo was safely located and rescued in Wepener in the early hours this morning," said police spokesperspon Brig Brigadier Motantsi Makhele. Five suspects aged between 20 and 29 were arrested. "Three suspects were apprehended at a house in Kanana location in Wepener, while two others were caught on the road between Kwetla location and Wepener town with the victim in their possession." This brings the total number of arrests in the case to six. The first suspect, a 42-year-old police sergeant who was previously arrested, appeared in court charged with kidnapping and extortion. The suspects face charges related to kidnapping and extortion. They will join the police sergeant in court on Monday. The investigation continues. TimesLIVE

Young Swindon athletics club breaks three records
A young athletics club has broken three club records. The achievements by Swindon Harriers came during the UK Athletics Youth Development League, Premier South & West Division match at Gloucester and the Brewer Memorial Games. Arthur Adams, 10, surpassed the Under-13s javelin club record set 11 years ago by Ben McIntyre, throwing 37.85m, earning him the best performance of the match. His throw places him fourth in the UK Under-13 Rankings and first in the South West for 2025. Read more: Swindon Lightning Cheerleading wins medal at Allstar Worlds Teenager Esha Bhalerao broke the Under-15s pole vault club record, reaching 2.71m, surpassing Sophie Bath's four-year-old record. Lucy Bull, competing at the Brewer Memorial Games, broke her personal best in the Under-17s javelin by almost two metres, reaching 48.46m and breaking Hannah Lewington's 2022 record. This performance consolidates Bull's position as first in the UK Under-17 Rankings and lifts her to 12th on the All-Time Lists. The club also finished second to Cheltenham in the opening Youth Development League match. Team manager Craig Scott said: "Overall, we had a great day, and second was a great result given we were missing some key athletes. "We were not too far behind Cheltenham, which certainly gives us hope that we can catch them if we have our full-strength team out with all the gaps filled."
