Dolphins' offseason free agent defender goes down in training camp with ‘feared' ACL injury
The post Dolphins' offseason free agent defender goes down in training camp with 'feared' ACL injury appeared first on ClutchPoints. The Miami Dolphins are currently partaking in training camp in preparation for the upcoming 2025 NFL season. The Dolphins are hoping for a healthy year from quarterback Tua Tagovailoa this year, and recently revamped their defense with a trade for Pittsburgh Steelers star safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. Unfortunately, the Dolphins got some tough injury news regarding another offseason signee, Artie Burns, on Wednesday. 'Dolphins veteran CB Artie Burns, who injured his knee at practice today and left on crutches, is feared to have a torn ACL, per source. Burns is now awaiting an MRI and second opinion to confirm,' reported ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter on X, formerly Twitter. Burns signed a one-year deal with the Dolphins earlier this offseason. He was originally a first round pick back in the 2016 NFL Draft and has put together a strong NFL career in the decade since, most recently suiting up for the Seattle Seahawks' practice squad during the 2024 season. It's a tough break for a Dolphins team that is hoping to finally break through and experience some real success under head coach Mike McDaniel this year. As previously mentioned, injuries have always been a major concern in Miami, particularly regarding quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, who nearly saw his career ended after sustaining a series of concussions over the last couple of seasons. However, Tagovailoa is back and healthy, and he's still got one of the NFL's best wide receivers in Tyreek Hill at his disposal, along with other weapons like Jaylen Waddle. Additionally, the Dolphins are hoping that their defense will receive a jolt of energy after replacing cornerback Jalen Ramsey with safety Minkah Fitzpatrick. In any case, the Dolphins will hope for the best on the Burns injury front. Miami is scheduled to kick off its 2025 NFL season on September 7 on the road against the Indianapolis Colts. Veteran Dolphins cornerback confirmed to have suffered season-ending torn ACL
The post Veteran Dolphins cornerback confirmed to have suffered season-ending torn ACL appeared first on ClutchPoints. Following an up and down 2024 season, the Miami Dolphins are looking to right the ship in 2025. During head coach Mike McDaniel's first two seasons at the helm, Miami made the playoffs. Last season, however, the team didn't make it to the postseason, mostly due to injuries and inconsistent play. Now, heading into the new season, the Dolphins have once again been struck by injury. Veteran cornerback Artie Burns will miss the 2025 season due to a torn ACL, according to NFL insider Adam Schefter on X (formerly Twitter). 'An MRI confirmed an ACL tear for Dolphins CB Artie Burns, who now is expected to miss the 2025 season, per source,' reported Schefter on the social media platform. For a team already low on experienced cornerback depth, losing a veteran like Burns stings even more. A couple of weeks ago, the Dolphins traded starting cornerback Jalen Ramsey to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Now, Burns is out for the entire 2025 season. Will GM Chris Grier be able to bring in some reinforcements to help out this ailing unit? Before the season gets underway might be the best time to go ahead and pull the trigger, before it could get even worse. Losing Artie Burns big blow for Dolphins cornerback depth Burns was brought in to play the nickel position alongside Kader Kohou. The former Pittsburgh Steelers first rounder has experience playing both inside and out, but he's really carved out a niche at nickel. Kohou, entering his fourth season in the league, has been a solid cover man but really hasn't made too many impact plays so far in his career. Now, with Burns set to miss the entire season, Kohou could cement his role in the cornerback rotation. The majority of Kohou's position mates have been in league for a shorter time than the 2022 draftee. It will fall on to him to become one of the secondary's leaders. Burns will still be around, but Kohou has a chance to finally break out in his absence during the upcoming 2025 season. Miami Dolphins CB Artie Burns feared to have torn ACL, ESPN reports
MIAMI GARDENS — Cornerback Artie Burns, a free agent signed by the Miami Dolphins to bring a veteran's experience to a revamped secondary, suffered a knee injury in the opening minutes of training camp and is feared to have a torn ACL, ESPN reported. Adam Schefter reported that Burns was awaiting an MRI and second opinion to confirm the diagnosis. Burns went down as practice was just getting started and appeared to sense the severity of the injury immediately. He slammed down his helmet in disgust. The Burns injury was part of a grim opening day for the Dolphins. The practice concluded slightly more than an hour later when offensive lineman Bayron Matos suffered an unspecified injury that required him to be flown to a hospital, where he was listed in stable condition. Burns, 30, was signed on March 19 as an unrestricted free agent from Seattle. He was a first-round draft pick of the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2016. Burns has appeared in 90 career games, starting 39, and has recorded 192 tackles, four interceptions and 38 passes defensed. Last season, he appeared in four games for Seattle but missed seven games after going on injured reserve with a toe injury, one of multiple injuries he has suffered in his career.
