Swedish rapper's concert cancelled after murder plot reports
A music festival in Sweden on Friday cancelled a concert with rapper Yasin, following media reports of a murder plot against the artist, organisers said. Advertisement The Swedish artist, whose full name is Yasin Mahamoud, has racked up millions of plays on Spotify and has had several chart-toppers in Sweden. Described by Swedish news agency TT as one of "Sweden's most controversial, but also most influential, rappers", he was sentenced to 10 months in prison in 2021 for his role in the kidnapping of rival artist Einar -- who was shot and killed later that year. Yasin's performance at the music festival Brannbollsyran in the city of Umea on Friday would have been the rapper's first concert in Sweden in nine years. However, newspaper Aftonbladet reported ahead of the concert that police had arrested two young men suspected of being involved in a plot to murder the 27-year-old artist. Organisers said that "based on a comprehensive assessment together with the police", they had decided to cancel the concert. "The reason for this is the concern among visitors and staff based on recent media reports, which has made the performance impossible," Brannbollsyran said on Instagram. Advertisement Organisers added that the safety of both visitors and staff was their priority. They said the festival would "otherwise continue as planned". Yasin was named Artist of the Year and hip hop/R&B Artist of the Year at the P3 Guldgalan awards, organised by Swedish public radio, in 2021. In April, newspaper Dagens ETC reported that another Yasin concert in Stockholm planned for September last year had also been cancelled after police warned the organiser of their safety concerns.

Prior to the AMAs, eagle-eyed netizens pointed out that the words "Apparel, Music, Accessories and Sale" on Swift's website spelled out "AMAs." There were also 12 items on sale at 26 percent off, which some thought held significance. Fans are patiently waiting for her 12th album, and the AMAs took place on May 26. Then, "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)" was used in a recent episode of The Handmaid's Tale, though the hit song originally debuted in the 2023 television series Wilderness. What To Know On Tuesday, Indiana Fever took to Instagram and X, formerly Twitter, to share a photo and video of Clark wearing Swift's merch. The basketball star wore a black Eras Tour T-shirt with black pants and sneakers. "Caitlin Clark reppin' Taylor Swift," the WNBA team wrote. In the video, Clark appeared to say, "Taylor Swift, baby. Best shirt in the world." At the time of publication, the X posts had racked up 748,900 views and 223,500 views respectively. On Instagram, while no view count was listed, the post had 63,500 likes. Taylor Swift AMAs Snub Sparks Fury Amid Album Disappointment
Taylor Swift was snubbed at the American Music Awards (AMAs) won Monday, according to the singer's fans. Newsweek reached out to Penske Media Corporation, the company behind the awards show, via email for comment on Tuesday. The AMAs were held at Fontainebleau Las Vegas on Memorial Day. Jennifer Lopez hosted the evening and performed at the event. Other performers included Rod Stewart, Janet Jackson, Gloria Estefan, Benson Boone, Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton. Swift was nominated for Artist of the Year, Album of the Year, Collaboration of the Year (with Post Malone), Favorite Female Pop Artist, Favorite Touring Artist and Favorite Pop Album. During the Artist of the Year announcement, Swifties—the term widely used to refer to Swift's fans—called out the AMAs for appearing to mute the pop star's cheers. While some accused the awards ceremony of being "rigged," others said the event was "heavily manipulated." Despite being up for six AMAs, Swift didn't win in any category. "Bad Guy" singer Billie Eilish, meanwhile, was nominated in seven categories and won all of the fan-voted awards. Leading up to the AMAs, eagle-eyed fans pointed out that the first letters of the words "Apparel, Music, Accessories and Sale," which were listed on Swift's website, spelled out "AMAs." There were also 12 items on sale for 26 percent off, which some suspected could tenuously refer to the singer's highly anticipated 12th album and the date of the awards show. Speculation was further fueled when the song "Look What You Made Me Do (Taylor's Version)," which was originally released on her 2017 album Reputation, was included in a recent episode of The Handmaid's Tale. It should be noted, though, that the song had previously been featured in the 2023 series Wilderness. On X, formerly Twitter, Swift's fans shared their thoughts on her "snub." Becky G, SZA score at American Music Awards
May 26 (UPI) -- Becky G and SZA were big winners at the American Music Awards on Monday in Las Vegas. SZA won for Favorite R&B Song for "Saturn" and Favorite Female R&B Artist. Other nominations for the night included Artist of the Year, Collaboration of the Year, Favorite Hip-Hop Song and Favorite R&B Album. "I'm so grateful for everyone that worked on this song," SZA said during her acceptance speech for the song award. The award for Favorite Female Latin Artist went to singer/actor Becky G. She gave a shout-out to the fellow nominees and dedicated her award to the chicana community. "I know this award wouldn't be possible without those who came before us," she said. Dan + Shay picked up the award for Favorite Country Duo or Group Billie Eilish, nominated for seven awards, won for Artist of the Year. She also received nods for Favorite Touring Artist, Favorite Female Pop Artist, Album of the Year and Favorite Pop Album for Hit Me Hard and Soft, and Song of the Year and Favorite Pop Song for "Birds of a Feather." Gracie Abrams -- also nominated for Album of the Year -- won New Artist of the Year, and Eminem -- also nominated for Favorite Hip-Hop Album -- won Favorite Male Hip-Hop Artist. Eilish, Abrams and Eminem weren't on hand to accept their awards. These were among the limited number of this year's awards announced on air Monday. To celebrate her Icon Award, Janet Jackson performed on television for the first time in seven years. Her medley included "Someone to Call My Lover" and "All for You." In accepting the award, Jackson said that while she's honored, she doesn't consider herself an icon. She said her family always had a "special love" for music, singing and dancing. "My story, my family's story, it's truly an American story. This would have only happened in America. "The one thing that I hope for is that I've been an inspiration to others and artists to follow their dreams and succeed." Legendary rocker Rod Stewart accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award after more than six decades in the music business. Five of his children presented to the award to him. "I'm absolutely flabbergasted. I didn't know they were here!" Stewart said before singing his iconic "Forever Young." Fellow legend Gloria Estefan was also on hand, singing her classic hit "Rhythm Is Gonna Get You" followed by "La Vecina (No Sé Na')" and "Conga." Blake Shelton made his first appearance at the AMAs, singing his hit "Stay Country or Die Tryin'" while his wife, Gwen Stefani, sang her new hit "Swallow My Tears" followed by a medley of her biggest hits, "Sweet Escape" and "Hollaback Girl." Lainey Wilson -- nominated for Favorite Female Country Artist -- performed "Somewhere Over Laredo," and Benson Boone sang "Mystical Magical," complete with his trademark backflip. Boone was up for five awards on the night, including New Artist of the Year and Favorite Male Pop Artist, and Favorite Pope Song, Favorite Music Video and Song of the Year for "Beautiful Things." Singer/actor Reneé Rapp performed "Leave Me Alone" from her upcoming album Bite Me and Alex Warren sang "Ordinary." The show opened with a performance by host Jennifer Lopez briefly singing her 2012 hit "Dance Again" followed by a dance routine to a medley of 23 of the year's biggest hits by Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Shaboozey, Béyonce and more.
