Boy's murder by vigilantes on Delhi-Agra highway: Wrong gun in police custody
Faridabad: The investigation into the murder of 20-year-old Aryan Mishra — who has shot dead after a 29km chase on Delhi-Agra highway in Aug last year — has hit a critical snag as forensic reports revealed a startling discrepancy — the bullets that claimed the young man's life don't match the weapon in police custody. This crucial mismatch has not only raised questions about the investigation's thoroughness but also suggested that the actual murder weapon is still at large, potentially compromising the prosecution's case against five cow vigilantes who have been arrested. Aryan, a Class 12 student from Faridabad, was travelling home with his landlady Sujata Gulati, her sons Harshit and Shanky, and their neighbour Kirti Sharma after a late-night snack at a Faridabad mall. Their journey took a deadly turn when they encountered a white Swift with a red-blue beacon, which started chasing their car. According to the accused, the SUV's sudden change in direction triggered the 29km chase from Sector 21D to the Delhi-Agra highway in Palwal. The pursuit ended tragically near the Gadhpuri toll plaza, where the vigilantes allegedly opened fire at Aryan, who was seated beside the driver. The investigation initially appeared to progress smoothly with the arrest of five individuals — Anil Kaushik, Adesh Kumar, Varun, Saurav Sharma, and Krishan — all associated with cow protection groups. The case went on to become the first to invoke Section 103(2) of the newly introduced BNS, addressing mob lynching. However, the process to recover the murder weapon was marked by inconsistencies. Anil initially claimed to have disposed of the gun in a Narela canal, only to reveal later that it was kept in the shoe rack of his Faridabad home. A separate toy gun was also recovered from the house of Vinay, adding to the investigation's complexity. In Nov last year, police filed a comprehensive 600-page chargesheet against the accused, including charges of murder, criminal conspiracy, and unlawful assembly. The recent forensic findings have, however, cast a shadow over the investigation's findings. Senior police officials declined to comment on the forensic report.
